1916-2016 COMMERATIONS
Kilflynn Community Together staged a 1916/2016 Centenary Commemoration Event in Kilflynn village on Sunday 24th April.
Michael Brady, Kilflynn Community Together chairman welcomed the large crowd which had gathered and the event kicked off with a performance from Kilflynn Choir supported by local musicians including a number of children from St.Treasa's National School,Kilflynn.
After a number of traditional songs and ballads a reading of the proclamation was made by local man Gerry Lenihan.
The large crowd then made its way to the recently redeveloped community Field at Ballyconnell. A history of the field was given and this was followed by a tree planting ceremony where an Oak Tree to mark the anniversary was planted by Mr.John Carmody,Crotta. The tricolour was then raised by Mrs.Elsie O’Sullivan,Castletown to a performance Amhrán na Bhfiann.
This concluded the ceremonial aspect of the celebration and a large crowd continued on its way to Shannow Bridge as part of the family walk that was organised as part of the celebration.
On return from the walk light refreshments were served with live music and entertainment provided by our young local musicians.
Kilflynn Community Together would like to thank all those who contributed to the staging of the event and look forward to seeing everyone out again soon.

HOLY WELL MASS
PEOPLE of the area will be travelling in large numbers to the banks of the Shanow River on this Friday evening 29th April for the annual Mass at Tobar Flainn, Kilflynn.
This Annual ceremony attracts people from all over the North Kerry area commences at 8.00 p.m. , with A Procession leaving St. Mary’s Church, Kilflynn for the well at 7.30 p.m. Rosary will be recited en route.

KERRY SENIOR HURLERS

1916 COMMEMORATION EVENT
Kilflynn Community Together will be hosting a Centenary Commemoration Event in Kilflynn village on Sunday, April 24th starting in Herbert’s Car Park. Schedule of Events are as follows: 10:30AM Start Time with reading of The Proclamation supported by the Kilflynn Church Choir. Followed by a family walk to Shannow Bridge and a Tree Planting Ceremony and Flag Raising at the Community Field. The event will conclude with light refreshments, live music and entertainment in Herbert’s Carpark or Columbus Centre, weather permitting. ALL are welcome, there will be a registration fee on the day of €10 per family, or €2 per child.

CROTTA AWARDS AND MEDAL PRESENTATIONS NIGHT
A large crowd of young Crotta Hurlers together with their parents, family and friends attend The Crotta Hurling Club Awards and Medal Presentation night in St Columbus Centre, Kilflynn on Saturday 16th April to see our young players receive their Medals for the 2015 season. With MC Paul O'Donoghue on duty everything ran smoothly. Crotta Coiste na nOg Chairman Sonny Egan thanked all Players for their dedication to improving their skills during the year. He thanked Parents, Grandparents, Coaches, Mentors and all who helped out in anyway during the year on and off the playing field. Sonny also thanked the Officers present from the Club and County. He thanked Richie Power for making the trip to Kilflynn with The Liam McCarthy Cup and said it was great for the young players to have such a great Hurler to present their medals to them.
On hand to present the medals on a memorable night was former Kilkenny Hurling legend Richie Power.
The Eight time All-Ireland Senior winner and two time All Star, was a wonderful guest,Richie told the large attendance that it was a honour to present the medals to the Crotta players. He offered the players some great advice and posed for endless photographs with all the players, committee, supporters and guests. The first medals to be presented were the U-10 players, winners of the North Kerry Hurling Board blitz. Dermot Ryan , manager when calling out the individual players spoke some fine words about each one. The next up was The u-12 Hurlers who received their County League Div 2 and North Kerry Hurling Board Blitz Medals. This team also played in Croke Park last June, and were victories in their three matches in the munster blitz that they participated in.
Next up were The u-13s who captured the North Kerry Championship b title. Manager J.P Hickey spoke about the U-12 and U-13 teams and called out each player individually to receive their medals. It was a busy night with many players on 2 or more teams.
Last up were the U-16 Panel who won the double, The County League Division 1 and The North Kerry Championship A titles, and losing in the treble after a extra time to South Kerry in the County Championship Final replay. The players were introduced by their manager Padraig Cronin.
There was special praise for club players who won achievements outside of the club, James Sheehan wining a Kennedy Cup medal with the Kerry U-14 Soccer team.
Daniel O'Rourke was a member of Austin Stack's football team who won All-Ireland u-14 Feile title, Barry Mahony captured the Munster Poc fada u-16 title , Aaron McElligott who won The All-Ireland boxing title also Donnacha Sayers who won a Munster Boy Boxing title recently and Sean McGrath who captained St. Brendan's Park F.C U-13 to a prestigious Manchester Cup Title just a few weeks ago.
Also on the night, The Senior awards were handed out to young player of the year, player of the year and club person of the year. Congratulations to Bill Keane who won our Young Player of the Year, Richard Nolan who won Senior Player of the Year and to Johnny Hannon who won Club Person of the Year, The Former Treasurer has been a major influence in our club over the last number of years and has worked tirelessly Fundraising on behalf of the Crotta Hurling Club. Richie Power presented the awards.
Well done to all our winners. Crotta Chairman Paddy Weir, announced that
Johnny Rohan is the Crotta Hurling Club Hall of Fame award recipient. Johnny who gave outstanding service to the Crotta Hurling Club as a player and later as administrator over a 13 year period. A tough defender at No 2 or No 5 jerseys who always made his opponent earned any ball he won. Unfortunately Johnny had called a day, when Crotta won the Senior Championship in 1968. He has been a true Crotta man and this award is one that is most well deserved. Congratulations Johnny.
Also present for the celebrations were County Board Hurling office Ger McCarthy who presented The County Poc Fada Medals to Crotta Hurlers Barry Mahony and Shane Nolan. The Crotta Coiste na nÓg music Group of Darragh Breen, Conor Breen, Orla Mahony, Ciara Bowler and Rory Mahony provided the music on the night also the Club sponsor Prim's Restaurant, Kilflynn provide some tasty food for all present.
Many thanks to all who helped out in any way to make it such an enjoyable and successful night, we appreciate all the work they put into the night individually and as a team. Most importantly to the players, their coaches and parents who without them there would not of been a night to celebrate. We look forward to the year ahead and what it brings.

KILFLYNN COMMUNITY TOGETHER
KILFLYNN COMMUNITY TOGETHER held their first Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 23rd of March in St. Columbus Centre Kilflynn.
Chairman Michael Brady thanked the large crowd for their attendance and welcomed them to the inaugural Annual General meeting of Kilflynn Community Together recognising how much had been achieved in the year with so many people rowing in behind the initiative.
Secretary Alan O’ Connell took the meeting through the list of main events & achievements that took place during the year listing the family walks, clean up days, Halloween and Christmas events, planting at entrance to village and church, painting of the bridge and Columbus wall, clean up of the community field, the successful application to Kerry County Council Community Support Fund, a community newsletter and the introduction of a text information system.
The following were elected to represent Business, Residents, Clubs & Organisations for the coming year 2016/17.

SCÓR NA bPÁISTÍ COUNTY FINALS
Congratulations and Well done to the Crotta Scor music group of
Darragh Breen, Conor Breen, Rory Mahony, Ciara Bowler and Orla Mahony
who qualified at the Tinteán, Ballybunion on Sunday 10th April for The County Scór na bPáistí Finals on Sunday, 17th April, in Foilmore at 2.00p.m . 144 youngsters from 24 clubs will be performing on stage.
St Senans Gaa club also qualified for the county finals of Scor na Paisti on last Sunday with their music group and Sean Nos dancer. Congrats to our neighbours.
At 11am, also on Sunday 17th April, in the Killorglin Intermediate School (ISK), the Scór na bPáistí Quiz will take place. Dozens of clubs will be involved.
Best of luck to the Crotta participants in the finals.

TODD NOLAN HURLING TOURNAMENT
The Todd Nolan Munster Minor Hurling Tournament was cancelled on Saturday 9th April , due to the inclement weather conditions, hopefully it will be held on Saturday April 30th.

ACTIVE RETIRED GROUP
An Outing for the Abbeydorney /Kilflynn Active Retired group will take place on Wednesday 13th April to Griffin's Garden Centre, Dripsey, Co . Cork. PROCLAMATION DAY
Scoil Treasa Naofa, Kilflynn celebrated Proclamation Day on Thursday, 15th March. With a large crowd in attendance, the Irish flag was raised with pride by Michael Parker Snr., one of the school’s oldest pupils, while the Proclamation was read by Principal Mary Carroll.
A group of senior pupils showcased their presentation skills as they gave a brief description of the seven signatories of the Proclamation. The school’s talented musicians performed “Amhrán na bhFiann” on tin whistles, accordions, banjos, concertinas, fiddles and drums while all in attendance sang our National Anthem with pride and joy.
The pupils then treated the parents, grandparents and members of the community to a selection of poetry written by Padraig Pearse, Joseph Mary Plunkett, Thomas McDonagh and Francis Ledwidge and the event concluded with Irish dancing and a rousing medley of traditional tunes and songs.

CROTTA COISTE NA NOG AWARDS NIGHT
The Crotta Hurling Coiste na nÓg club awards night will be held this on Saturday 16th April at 7.30pm in St. Columbus Centre, Kilflynn.
Eight time All-Ireland winner, and two time All Star, The Kilkenny Hurling legend Richie Power, will present the victories Crotta U10/12/13/16 panels with their Medals. All welcome to attend.

THE GATHERING
The Parish Pastoral Council are organising a Social Evening to celebrate the involvement of so many people in various ministries in our parish in Abbeydorney Community Hall on Friday 8th April at 8.00 p.m. We would like to see Sacristans, Ministers of the Eucharist, Ministers of the Word (Readers), Choir Members, Collectors, Counters, Baptism Team, Liturgy Groups, Finance Committee, Altar Society and Safeguarding Children Representatives. CROTTA COISTE NA NOG AWARDS NIGHT
The Crotta Hurling Coiste na nÓg club awards night will be held on Saturday 16th April at 7.30pm in St. Columbus Centre, Kilflynn. (please note chance of date)

The Local Crotta Cycling Group will continue their cycling trips on Tuesdays
and Thursdays. Starting from Barry's in Crotta at 6:30 p.m. All are welcomed
even if you are a novice cyclist or have not cycled for a number of years.

SCÓR NA bPÁISTÍ SEMI-FINALS
The County Semi-finals of Scór na bPáistí will be held at 2pm on Sunday 10th April in the ‘Tinteán’ Theatre, Ballybunion, for the North Kerry participants. Best of luck to The Crotta Hurling Coiste na nÓg club music group on Sunday.
The County Finals will take place on 17th April. The Crotta Hurling Coiste na nÓg will also enter a table quiz team in the county final on Sunday 17th April.

RESULTS
County U-16 Hurling League Div 1 Kenmare /Kilgarvan 4-11 to Crotta 0-07 played in Kenmare on Thursday 31st April. The Lee Strand County League U-14 Hurling Div 2 played at Caherslee G.A.A Grounds, Tralee on Saturday 2nd April. Crotta 2-10 to Tralee Parnells 1-06. Well done Crotta players especially Aaron McElligott who travelled down from Dublin and who played a good game after winning All-Ireland boxing medal earlier in the day.
Congratulations and Well done Crotta Hurler Aaron McElligott who won The All-Ireland boxing title in 63kg boy category on Saturday in Dublin. Fantastic achievement.

FIXTURES
Crotta U-14 Hurlers play Dr. Crokes on Saturday 9th April at 6.00 pm. at the sportsfield, dromakee round 4 of The Lee Strand County League U-14 Hurling Div 2. Crotta U-16s are away to Abbeydorney in Round 2 of the County League on Thursday 7th April at 6.30pm. County Senior Hurling league Div 1 Round 2 on Sunday 10th April at 2pm. The North Kerry Senior Hurling league 2015 final may be played on Friday 15th April. Venue to be decided. Crotta u-12 Hurlers are at home to Kilmoyley on Friday 8th April at 7.00 p.m.

DARTS NEWS
The winners of the weekly doubles darts tournament in Parker's bar, Kilflynn on Saturday night 2nd April were Tim O'Halloran and Paud Twomey who
defeated Dermot Ryan and J.P Twomey in the final. The next tournament will take place in Parker's Snug bar on Saturday 9th April. Names in for 10.30pm.
The Tuborg and District Darts league results Week 10, Parker's A team defeated The Huddle Bar, Tralee
By 5- 2 in Parker's Lounge bar, on Friday night 1st April, and Parker's Pub B team were defeated by The Dew Drop Bar, Lixnaw By 4-3 in The Tuborg Tralee and District Darts league in The Dew Drop Bar also on Friday night.

POETRY READING
Kerry Poets Noel King and Louis Mulcahy will give a reading in the Seanchaí Centre on Thursday April 7that 7.30 pm. Admission Free.
