KILFLYNN COMMUNITY TOGETHER
would like to thank the councillors From the Tralee and Listowel municipal district who attended our recent public Meeting held in the St. Columbus Centre on Friday the 5th of April.
We would also like to thank John Brassil TD for being in attendance.
Listowel Municipal District was represented by Aoife Thornton, John Lucid;
Robert Beasley; Jimmy Moloney; Mike Kennelly and Tom Barry.
Tralee Municipal District was represented by Jim Finucane and Teresa Ferris.
Over 40 local business owners and residents attended with a wide range of questions directed at the panel covering a range of topics related directly to our community-a frank discussion emerged with the panel left under no illusion on the the concerns of our community.
The major issues that came up for discussion were the state of the
Sewerage treatment plant ( or lack there of ) and the condition of The roads in the area.
The representatives present did not have any reassuring news with
Regard to the Sewerage treatment plant and their understanding was that
No new treatment plant works are very likely in the immediate future.
They told the meeting that the maintenance of existing and building of new treatment plants.
Are now the responsibility of Irish Water and that as of yet a programme of work for village's the size.
Of Kilflynn didn't really exist and that although it is a priority nationally it may take sometime
For works to filter down.  They advised us to put a deputation together to meet with Irish Water and assured us that they would facilitate and assist in anyway they could with regards to this.
On the roads front there was limited good news with some roads in the area to be resurfaced From May to September this year.
However the road through the village and at school etc is not included in the current roads programme.
And although councillors said they would do something from there own allocations, it will amount To a very limited improvement.  They said that the present roads programme has a couple of years to run yet and all present said that they would push for road through village when next roads programme falls due.All representatives remained for coffee after the meeting when further issues were raised on a direct one to one basis.
It is hoped that a delegation will be arranged to formally meet directly the Tralee and Listowel Municipal District to convey the priority issues of immediate importance to our community.
Finally K.C.T would like to thank all of you from our Community for attending on the night.
And for the excellent questions you posed to our representatives.
We hope that by working together, little by little we can achieve alot.

GAA/INTO Allianz Cumann na mBunscol
What a week for the young footballers/ camogie and hurlers from Kilflynn. On Monday they contested the GAA/INTO Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Camogie Mini Sevens finals in Cahersalee. They accounted for Ardfert in their opening game and drew with Kilmoyley in their second group game which set them up for a semi final spot. In their semi final they faced Glenderry and overcame the challenge of the sea side girls. The final was a repeat of their final group game as Kilmoyley were again their opponents. The final was another ding dong battle but on this occasion the Kiflynn girls slotted the first half goals to set them on the road to victory as they led 5-0 to 3-0 at the break. Roisín Quinn and Ella Buckley landed a pair each while Ellie O Mahony scored the fifth. Ruth O Connor, Laura Nolan and Katie Maunsell all found the net for Kilmoyley.  The Kilflynn girls with Roisín Quinn and Ella Buckley in inspirational form went on to claim a first GAA/INTO Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Camogie title for the school. St. Tereasa’s Kilflynn  Zoe Mc Carthy, Clodagh Mac Namara, Ellie Mahony, Ella Buckley, Roisín Quinn, Katie Casey, Rachel O Donoghue, Emma Buckley, Emma O Shea, Muireann Hussey.  Well done to all the panel and their coach and trainer Jerome O'Sullivan and  their teachers.
A young hurling squad failed to qualify from their group but will be far more competitive next year.
On Wednesday the girl’s football team were in action in the county Mini Sevens football final and faced eventual champions Scartaglen in their opening game. Kilflynn trailed by a point at the break but such was their dominance that they should have carried a healthy lead to the break but on the day the scoring simply didn’t work out for them. While they competed bravely in the remaining games they failed to make the semi finals in a tremendously competitive competition but they can be extremely proud of their achievements in this year’s Mini Sevens competition. Well done to all the panel and their coach and trainer Denis Sayers  and their teachers.

FRESHERS HURLING FINAL
THE ALL-IRELAND Freshers 1 hurling final has been refixed for the Gaelic Grounds this Thursday, 4th April almost one month after it was supposed to take place.
Confusion reigned over the decider between LIT and UL as both teams turned up at different venues for the initial clash on 13th March.
Originally Mary Immaculate College was to host the game. However LIT was then announced as the venue on the Tuesday before the final, following a coin toss between the colleges.
UL then indicated that they would be lining out at the original venue in Mary I just over an hour before throw-in and remained at those grounds. Meanwhile, referee Cathal McAllister, his match officials and the LIT team all went to the LIT venue.
McAllister waited the compulsory 15 minutes to give UL an opportunity to show for the 4.30pm throw-in, but they didn’t arrive. The LIT team then departed the field at 4.50pm.
The matter then went before Croke Park’s CCCC to decider whether the game would be refixed or if LIT would be awarded the title.
Following an agreement between both colleges, it has since been confirmed that the Freshers final will now take place at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick this Thursday 4 April [throw-in, 4pm].
Best of luck to Crotta Hurler Barry Mahony, his L.I.T teammates and their mentors on Thursday. Barry is captain of the L.I.T
