HERB WALK TO TOBAR FLAINN
Over the last few years there has been an increasing interest in natural healthcare and more and more people are looking at ways they can help themselves to stay healthy. Herbs have long been used in years gone by and still have a lot to offer. Kilflynn Herbalist, Christine Best will be looking at the wild plants that grow in the area and how you may use them to improve your health. The walk will start on Monday May 5th
(May Day Bank Holiday) at 3pm, meeting up in the car park and will take about 2 hours. There is no charge but Christine will be asking for donations to go to charity. The walk is suitable for all age groups but the path can be a bit uneven and muddy so wear appropriate footwear and clothing. For more details you can contact Christine at 086 1939217

PEOPLE of the area will be travelling in large numbers to the banks of the Shanow River on this Wednesday evening 30th Apri1, for the annual Mass at Tobar Flainn, Kilflynn.
This Annual ceremony attracts people from all over the North Kerry area commences at 8.00 p.m. , with A Procession leaving St. Mary’s Church, Kilflynn for the well at 7.30 p.m. Rosary will be recited en route

UNDER 14S
Crotta U-14 Hurlers booked their place in County Feile Semi final next weekend, with victories over Causeway by 1-03 to 0-03, Kenmare/ Kilgarvan by 2-06 to 1-03 and Ballyheigue 2-04 to 0-01. The games were played in Causeway on Saturday 26th April.
The following Feile Hurling Semi Finals Fixtures Crotta play Ballyduff at 6 PM
Causeway play Abbeydorney at 7 PM. Both games take place in Lixnaw on Saturday 3rd May. Both Semi Finals will be 15 Minutes a side. Best of luck to the boys in Green and Red and their management team.

Crotta U-16 Hurlers had a 7-11 to 2-17 victory over Abbeydorney/Kilmoyley in North Kerry Under 16 Hurling League, played in Dromakee on Thursday evening 24th April. The local side led at half time by 5-07 to 0-10. Crotta received a walk over from South Kerry in the semi final, and now will play Ardfert or Lixnaw in the final on Thursday 8th May.

MINORS
The Crotta/Abbeydorney minor hurlers were defeated by Lixnaw in North KerryMinor Hurling League semi final by 2-09 to 2-06. The Game was played in Lixnaw on Saturday 26th April. Match Referee Mike Hennessy.

HOLY WEEK CEREMONIES
LARGE crowds attended the Holy Week and Easter Ceremonies hosted in St Mary’s Church, Kilflynn. Parishioners were out in force for the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, the Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday and the usual Mass on Easter Sunday. Fr. Denis Mahony, officiated at the ceremonies, he thanked everybody for their contributions to the extensive schedule, and welcomed the very many visitors who are on holidays in the area for Easter.

DARTS LEGEND JOHN LOWE FOR KILFLYNN
Darts legend John Lowe will be stepping up to the oche in Parker’s Lounge Bar, on Saturday 26th April. At 8.30 p.m. for a Darts Exhibition. Lowe is quite simply one of the biggest names in World Darts. 3 times World Champion, 2 times World Masters Champion, World Champion in 3 separate decades, the 70's, 80's and 90's, he was the first player to achieve the magical 9 darter live on TV in 1984 winning £102,000 and winner of over 1000 titles. John will be taking on members of the audience so bring your darts if you fancy your chances of beating an darts icon, this will followed by a question-and-answer session with The Legend of Darts. In addition to the darts action on the night there will be a raffle – with an array of darts memorabilia up for grabs. Admission is Free.

HURLING RESULTS
Crotta Senior hurlers had a busy week, on Monday evening 14th April, in round 1 of the County Senior Hurling league Div 1, Crotta were defeated by County Champions, St. Brendan's by 3-16 to 0-12. The home side led by 1-09 to 0-03 at half time. Crotta Scorers were Shane Nolan 0-11, Cyril Lynch 0-11, It took extra time to separate Crotta and Ballyheigue Seniors in the North Kerry Championship Quarter Final in Ballyheigue on Friday evening 18th April on the Final score of Ballyheigue 1-16 to Crotta 3-08. Crotta Scores came from Shane Nolan 3-06, Francis Keane 0-01 and Cyril Lynch. on Easter Sunday 20th April in the round 2 of the county league, Crotta travelled to Causeway to play the home side, and were defeated, Despite a brave effort by 0-18 to Crotta 0-13, Crotta led at half time, by 0-08 by 0-06. Crotta’s only Scorer on the day was Shane Nolan hitting 0-13.
Good luck to the Senior management team of Brendan Mahony, Jerome O’Sullivan and Maurice McElligott and all the players for the season ahead.
Crotta Under 16 hurlers had mix luck last week, on Thursday 17th April in the County U-16 Hurling League Div 1, Crotta were narrowly defeated by Ardfert 4-10 to 5-06. Played in Ardfert. On Easter Saturday evening Crotta played host to neighbours Lixnaw also in the County league, with victory going to the home side on the 1-18 to 2-13 scoreline.

FEILE PEIL NA NOG
Congratulations and well done to Kilflynn boys, James Sheenhan, Castlecove, Casletown, and Ryan Ward, (Captain),Ballyconnell, Heights, and their John Mitchels U-14 Football team mates, who qualifying for the national Féile Peil na nÓg at John Mitchels Pitch, Tralee on Saturday 19th April after they helped John Mitchel’s to victory in the Final of B Competition.

RAMBLING HOUSE

KERRY HURLERS
The young Kerry Senior hurlers will remain in the Allianz Hurling League Div 2A next season following they defeated by Offaly in The promotion play-off at Semple Stadium Thurles on Saturday evening 12th April, on the score of Kerry 0-14 to Offaly 3-19
Kerry with the aid of the wind, tore into the opposition from the first whistle and had the audacity to race into a 7 points to no score lead inside the opening nine minutes of play with some outstanding scores, Shane Nolan contributing four of those, before Offaly finally opened their account in the 10th minute. and the sides were on level terms at the break 0-11 to 1-8. The Crotta hurling club was once again well represented on the Kerry team by Sean Weir at wing back and by Shane Nolan who scored 0-8,(3fr, 1 “65”), at wing forward.
Shane Nolan, finished The Allianz Hurling League 2014 Division 2A Top Scorer - With a total of 3-48 (57). And is in third place in the Overall hurling Allianz league top scorers: P Horgan, Cork 3-51 (60), M Lee, Wicklow 2-52 (58) and S Nolan, Kerry 3-48 (57). Well done Shane, and also well done to Sean Weir who had a fantastic league campaign in his first year in the green and goal senior jersey.

Crotta players Adrian Mahony and Jordan Conway were members of the Kerry Minor Hurling team that were defeated by Cork in the Electric Ireland Munster GAA Minor Hurling Championship in Páirc Uí Rinn on Wednesday evening 9th April. The Minor hurling championship play-off game between Clare and Kerry will take place at Sixmilebridge on Wednesday April 23rd at 7pm

SILVERWARE FOR THE KERRY HURLERS
Kerry Senior hurlers were crowned Allianz Hurling League Div 2A champions when coming from seven points down at one stage to fashion an unlikely victory over favourites Carlow in Semple Stadium, Thurles on Sunday 6th April on the final score of Kerry 3-16 to Carlow 3-13 in the Division 2A final. The Crotta hurling club was well represented on the victories Kerry team by Sean Weir at wing back and by Shane Nolan who scored 1-06 (0-3fr) at wing forward. Congratulations to Sean and Shane and their team mates and Management. The Crotta/Kilflynn area was very well represented at the match to witness Kerry’s famous victory. The promotion/ regulation play-off between the Kerry Hurlers and Offaly is on this Saturday evening at 6.30pm in Semple Stadium Thurles. Best of luck to Kerry.

BOOK LAUNCH
St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn was packed to overflowing for the official launch of Gerald Byrne‘s book. “They Passed Along Our Road ” on Friday 4th April. Fr Mossie Brick, Lixnaw P.P performed the launch.
The book consists of a collection short stories, poems and vignettes based on the real-life experiences of the author who has written the book with a humorous slant and affection for the many wonderful characters he has met in his lifetime. Most of the stories are based on true incidents and, in some cases, Gerald has embellished the endings in the interest of entertaining the readers of the book.
“They Passed Along Our Road” is a compilation of childhood memories from growing up in Garrynagore in Lixnaw, to life in boarding college in Killarney, and emigration and adventure across the water in London. It is a memoir of good and bad things that happened along the way, and stories and incidents in the company of some of the great characters around home in Crotta. There are also random verses, long and short, which Gerald have been writing down in his notebooks over many years. The book, published by Red Hen Publishing, Duagh, and priced at only 10 euro is available in shops and bars all over north Kerry.

The Crotta under 16 hurlers got their county league campaign off on a winning note with a comprehensive victory over South Kerry on Thursday evening in Dr.Crokes pitch. Well done. Crotta U-12 hurlers started their 2014 season with a 3-06 to 1-01 victory over Tralee Parnells in The County league at Caherslee on Friday evening.
Abbeydorney defeated Crotta in the county u-14 league Saturday evening in Abbeydorney.

CYCLING
The Local Crotta Cycling Group are now back on the road on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Starting from Barry’s in Crotta at 6:30 p.m. All are welcomed even if you are a novice cyclist or have not cycled for a number of years. You can start with a few miles and progress from there. DARTS EXHIBITION
Darts legend John Lowe will be stepping up to the oche in Parker’s Lounge Bar, on Saturday 26th April. Lowe is quite simply one of the biggest names in World Darts. 3 times World Champion, 2 times World Masters Champion, World Champion in 3 separate decades, the 70's, 80's and 90's, he was the first player to achieve the magical 9 darter live on TV in 1984.

BOOK LAUNCH
The humour, colour and distinctive turn of phrase of north Kerry can be found in a new book by Crotta man, Gerald Byrne. After a lifetime of writing, Gerald has finally published They Passed Along Our Road with Red Hen Publishing. The book consists of a collection short stories, poems and vignettes based on the real-life experiences of the author who has written the book with a humorous slant and affection for the many wonderful characters he has met in his lifetime. Most of the stories are based on true incidents and, in some cases, Gerald has embellished the endings in the interest of entertaining the readers of the book.
“They Passed Along Our Road is a compilation of childhood memories from growing up in Garrynagore in Lixnaw, to life in boarding college in Killarney, and emigration and adventure across the water in London. It is a memoir of good and bad things that happened along the way, and stories and incidents in the company of some of the great characters around home in Crotta. There are also random verses, long and short, which I have been writing down in my notebooks over many years,” Gerald said.
“I hope that readers of the book from my own area will recognise and remember the characters that populate my stories, and perhaps recall some of their own stories and incidents with those same characters. I have attempted to capture the good neighbourliness, humour, wit and interaction that has existed in our community during my lifetime and I hope that reading about this is something that will engage all readers. My aim is to show deep respect and affection at all times, for those still living and also those gone to their eternal rewards.”
They Passed Along Our Road will be launched by Fr Mossie Brick in the heritage centre in Kilflynn on Friday, April 4th, at 8pm. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served. They Passed Along Our Road is published by Red Hen Publishing, Duagh, www.redhenpublishing.ie and is available in bookshops and local shops.

Paud Twomey and Richard Parkinson defeated Tim O’Halloran and Michael O’Sullivan in the weekly dart doubles final in Parker’s lounge Bar, Kilflynn on Saturday night 29th March.
The next darts doubles tournament takes place on Saturday night 5th April at 10.30 p.m. in Parkers lounge Bar. Paud Twomey defeated Tony Mulvihill in the Single dart tournament on Wednesday night 26th March. The Single Darts Tournament will continue every Wednesday night.

LIXNAW GOLF SOCIETY
The upcoming Society Outing which was scheduled for the 5th of April in Castlegregory Golf Club has been rescheduled for the 30th of August. The 10th of May in Ballybunion Golf Club will now be the Society's first outing, committee members will be in touch about tee times.
