SENIOR HURLERS
The Crotta Senior hurler's interest in this year's A.I.B County Championship came to an end at Austin Stacks Park, Tralee at the ¼ final stage, when they to lost to last year's County finalist Causeway
On the 1-11 to 0-10 score-line. Causeway led 0-04 to 0-01 at the end of the first quarter, but by half time this lead was down 0-06 to 0-04.Crotta dominated long periods of he second half, but their shooting left them down. There was only one point between sides with time up, but Causeway scored three unanswered points in injury time to secure victory. Tadhg Flynn had two early pointed frees before Andrew Keane opened Crotta's account in the ninth minute, also from a place ball.
A further Flynn free and a John Mike Dooley effort from play saw last year's finalist take a three-point lead by the end of the first quarter.
Andrew Keane and Flynn swapped pointed frees in the 18 th minute as the scores from play were hard to come by. Crotta were dominated at the back, With seven minutes of the half remaining Crotta were afforded a timely boost with a penalty after full forward Paul Culhane was fouled, having fielded a long delivery high in the air. Sean Twomey struck the ball, but his effort rose over the bar to reduce the margin to two points once more.
Flynn had yet another pointed free soon after and in the 33 rd minute Andrew was on target from a place ball, and the final score of the first half ensured that Causeway retired for the interval break on the Score Causeway 0-06 Crotta 0-04
Colm Mc Elligott, who was introduced at half time pointed from play shortly after the restart Crotta dominated proceedings at this stage, but their inaccuracy from both play and frees was to prove costly at the end, while Tadhg sent over another free after eight minutes in a rare Causeway attack.
Crotta again gained the initiative as their halfback line drove them forward, but their only reward was a Seamus Enright point at the end of the third quarter.
With the game delicately poised Causeway struck for the only goal of the game. Crotta ‘keeper Jerome O'Sullivan made two excellent saves, but Monty Leahy drove the second rebound to the net to give his side a four point lead.
It was Crotta, however reacted better to this setback and two Sean Twomey frees reduced the deficit to two points with five minutes remaining. Flynn had his seventh pointed free in the 27 th minute to put his side 1-08 to 0-08 ahead.
Crotta again hit back and one from Sean Twomey followed a point from Colm Mc Elligott.
The game looked like it might end all square, but Cyril Dineen pointed from play in the
1st minute of injury time. Yet another Flynn free followed this and in the fourth minute of over time John Mike Dooley made the game safe for the Causeway men with only their third point from play. Cork
Referee Diarmuid Kirwin blew the final whistle soon after with Causeway advancing to the Semi final and Crotta Knew that they could have won this game.
Crotta panel and scorers: Jerome O'Sullivan, John P. Quilter, Tom “B”Mc Elligott, Kevin Galvin (capt), Jer Galvin, Tom Cronin, David Galvin, Andrew Keane (0-03), Padraig Cronin, Mikie Barry, J.P Mc Elligott, Seamus Enright (0-01), Matt Lynch, Paul Culhane, and Sean Twomey (0-04).

23rd August 2005
Up to Forty secondary students from the Kilflynn area who faced the bleak prospect last week of being left without school transport to Tralee because of the new regulations will now be accommodated on a Bus from Listowel serving the Gaelcholaise Chiarri in Moyderwell.
Parents greeted the news with great relief at a public meeting in St.Columbas Centre, Kilflynn on Monday night 22 nd August when it was announced by Chief Executive of Kerry Education Services Mr. Barney O'Reilly, and C.I.E Kerry Transport Inspector Mr. Christy Murphy.
Concerned parent Mr. Mundy Hayes, who chaired the meeting, described the news as a “huge relief” to parents and students in the area.
The situation arouse during the last two weeks because of new departmental regulations governing safety on school buses which led Education Minister Mary Hanafin to cut bus capacity from 70 to 53 pupils.
This meant the many students living outside the catchment areas for their schools were told they would have to find transport some other way.
Kilflynn is in the catchment area for Causeway Comprehensive School but students in the North Kerry village traditionally attend second-level school in Tralee .
Mr. O'Reilly will now recommend that the department take a serious look at the situation in Kilflynn with a view to redrawing the catchment boundary so that the village might be brought within the Tralee area.
Fine Gael T.D Jimmy Deenihan, who attended the meeting along with Sinn Fein T.D Martin Ferris, and Finna Fail Councillors John Brassil and Anne Mc Ellistrim condemned Minister Hanafin's directive last week and said he was relived that the matter had been resolved.
“I'm delighted that they were able to accommodated the students in Kilflynn- Mr. O'Reilly and Mr Murphy should be commended for achievements” he said

The Crotta Senior hurlers book their A.I.B County Championship quarterfinal place when they had a 6-25 to 3-05 comprehensive victory over a gallant Kenmare side at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney on Friday evening 19 th August.
The impressive Matt Lynch pointed Crotta into a first minute lead, added to by another point from Paul Culhane two minutes later. Jimmy Wharton with a pointed free opened Kenmare's account. Crotta's Matt Lynch replied immediately with a first time effort that deceived the Kenmare goalkeeper Gene Doherty. However Kenmare veteran Gerard O'Sullivan-Morgan got inside the Crotta defence and had his side's first goal. Andrew Keane (free) and Matt Lynch from play, added further points for Crotta before Michael O'Sullivan had Kenmare's second goal to leave the sides on level terms after ten minutes. Crotta began to pull away, with Matt Lynch pointing from play soon after and then Sean Twomey stroked home his side's second goal to leave four points between the sides.
Jimmy Wharton and Sean Twomey swapped points to leave the score at 2-06 to 2-02 in favour of Crotta. The second quarter was all one-way traffic with three unanswered points from Sean Twomey, Seamus Enright and Andrew Keane. Donal O'Sullivan (free) kept Kenmare in touch, but with Tom Cronin and Kevin Galvin hurling with a lot of endeavour in defence. Andrew Keane and Barry O'Grady had swapped points at opposite ends Sean Twomey goal after 22 minutes. Crotta's fourth goal came from J.P Mc Elligott after 29 minutes. Crotta led 4-11 to 2-04 at the interval.

SENIORS
A youthful Crotta Senior side was narrowly defeated by neighbours Abbeydorney in the A.I.B County Championship tie played in Austin Stack's Park, Tralee on a very wet and misty Saturday evening 6 th August on 1-08 to 0-09 final score line. It was a very difficult evening for hurling and as a result the standard was moderate in the extreme as both defences were on top and it was a difficult evening for forwards. Crotta were totally reliant on the free taken of midfield Andrew Keane, who drilled over five points but once he was dismissed for a second yellow card midway thought the second half, his team chances of winning disappeared with him, Crotta led for most of the first half with Andrew Keane converting four long range frees while Sean Twomey scored two points from closer in as they led Abbeydorney 0-06 to 0-02 after 20 minutes. The game changed in the 25 th minute when Mike Hannifin slipped inside Crotta defence to slip a goal past Brendan O'Mahony Crotta keeper to bring Abbeydorney back into the game. Ian Maunsell added a third point from a free the sides were tied at 1-03 to 0-07 before Keane from yet another free left Crotta lead at half time 0-7 to 1-03.The second half was a hard fought and uneventful as Crotta could only add a Padraig Cronin point, and two points from veteran Tom O'Connell and point from Ian Maunsell (free) Nigel Roche and Kieran was enough to see Abbeydorney thought to the ¼ final meeting with Ardfert. Crotta will now meet Kenmare in the losers round next weekend.
Crotta panel and scorers:
Brendan Mahony, Tom Cronin, Tom B Mc Elligott, Kevin Galvin (Capt), Jer Galvin, Padraig Cronin (0-01), David Galvin, Colm Mc Elligott, Andrew Keane (0-06f), Cyril Lynch, Paul Culhane, J.P Mc Elligott, Matt Lynch, Seamus Enright, and Sean Twomey (0-02f). NEW MART
The Listowel Mart is due to open at Tanavilla on the Tralee road on Wednesday August 17th .

2nd August 2005
Hurling followers throughout the County were saddened to hear of the deaths of hurling greats – Larry White and Monty Mc Elligott during the past few weeks.
Larry was one of a small select group of Crotta players lucky enough to have won a County Minor Championship medal. He was a member of the St. Michael's team (Crotta/ Lixnaw Combination) which lost the County Minor final in 1953. In 1954 he was full back when St. Patrick's (Crotta/ O'Dorney) defeated Johnny Culloty led Killarney team. Larry went on to win a North Kerry league hurling medal with Kilflynn in 1957, before graduating to the Crotta Senior in the 60s. Unfortunately
Larry had retired from Senior hurling when Crotta won the 1968 County Championship , so he never won that Senior medal which his talents and dedication deserved, nevertheless Larry continued to be a loyal club member and fanatical supporter up to his death.
Monty had the distinction of playing in 5 County Championship finals- winning three of these in 1947, 1950 and 1951. He was on the losing sides of 1952 and 1957. Monty's consistency can be judged from the fact he played in the full back line in four of those finals. He had the well-deserved reputation of conceding the minimum of scores to opposing forwards. Incidentally in his last county final appearance, Monty, his late brother Joe and John Mc Carthy formed the line of defence, after his retirement Monty served as club chairman and continued his commitment and dedication into is later years. Larry and Monty passed on that sporting tradition to their families.

CROTTA WIN U-14 TITLE:
The Crotta under 14 hurling team travelled to Lerrig on Wednesday evening 20 th July to play Ballyheigue in the County league Div 2 final 13 a side. It was evident from the start that Crotta, having tasted defeat last year weren't going to let this chance elude them. The men in green and red started the game at a blistering pace and with goals from Shane Nolan ,Darragh Mc Auliffe and Thomas Quille and the outstanding defensive work by Eoin Sullivan and Gary Marshall, Crotta were in a comfortable position at half time with the score board reading Crotta 4-03 Ballyheigue 1-0. However the management team weren't about to rest on the Loral's and the message to the players was more of the same and to play hard right to the final whistle. Ballyheigue upped the tempo in the second half and created some great scoring chances but with Tom McElligott in fine form in goals, and great team play throughout the field Crotta never seemed in any great trouble and in the end ran out convincing winners on a score-line of 6-08 to 4-04. I feel it would be unfair to single out any one player, as the Crotta team as a unit were outstanding and played some fantastic hurling and showed great awareness and poise. After the game victories Crotta Captain Eoin Sullivan received the winning Plaque from, County board officer Pat Dineen. In his speech Eoin thanked the management team of Gene Sullivan and his backroom team of Paddy Weir, Christy O'Connell and Tom Nolan for all there hard work throughout the year. The victories Crotta panel and scorers Tom Mc Elligott (leam), Eoin O'Sullivan, Jamie Lohan, Max Hayes, Gary Marshall, Maurice Mc Elligott, Padraig O'Leary, John O'Connor, Darragh Mc Auliffe (1-01), Sean Weir (2-01), Jason Nolan (0-01), Shane Nolan (2-05) and Thomas Quille (1-00).
