KERRY U-14 HURLERS
Saturday 27th August was a great day in Laois as the Kerry U14 b Squad won the Sonny Walsh Plate at the Tony Forristal hurling Tournament. They beat Wicklow 6-13 to 0-03, they beat Westmeath 5-10 to 1-01 and then overcame Carlow 4-02 to 1-02. Kerry Captain Jeremy McKenna from Lixnaw was presented with the Sonny Walsh Plate. The Crotta hurling was well represented by Brandon Conway, Colin Browne, Darragh Kennelly, David Behan and Raymond Nolan on the victories squad. Jerome O’Sullivan along with Tommy O’Connor, Ardfert were managers of the team with Johnny Conway, Lixnaw, Mike Lynch, Kilmoyley and Mike O’Keffee Dr.Crokes as mentors. Well done lads. Also in Laois, the U14 A team also did very well beating Armagh 6-08 to 0-05 and beat Carlow 0-05 to 0-02 but unfortunately lost to Meath 6-03 to 4-03.
The Crotta hurling club was also well represented on the Kerry team by Adrian Mahony, Darragh Ryan and Jordan Conway. Well done lads.
The U15 Squad travelled to Clarecastle but sadly it wasn't to be their day as they lost both games. The U16s were in action in Mullingar. They did very well and qualified for the semi final having beat Carlow 5-15 to 5-05 and Mayo 3-09 to 1-02. Unfortunately the U16s lost the semi final to Meath 5-9 tp 3-7.
Overall it was a great day for the Kerry Underage Hurlers. We thank the players and management for their huge commitment to these tournaments and congratulations to the U14 B hurlers!

KERRY’S GOT TALENT
A massive congratulations to Niamh Byrne, daughter of Maire and Joe Byrne of Kilflynn Post Office who was a member of the dance troupe Sizzle n' Stomp! Who won Kerry's Got Talent at The Rose of Tralee Dome on Saturday afternoon 20th August. Kerry’s most talented acts battled it out to win the grand prize of €5,000 in Kerry’s Got Talent competition. All 12 acts performed with class and professionalism but the act that stole the show was hip hop dance troupe Sizzle n’ Stomp, with an outstanding performance. With 36 members from all over the county the group has trained hard since the getting together in January of this year. Their hard work has paid off with jaw-dropping dance skills and now the title of Kerry’s most talented act. Dance choreographer and founder of Sizzle N' Stomp School of Dance, Cassie Leen is delighted with her talented dancers and, of course, their fantastic win. The dance troupe is to donate part of its €5,000 winnings to the Open Arms Project, which was set up last February following the death of one of its members, Tralee school girl Hannah Kinsella. The group is aiming to open a 24-hour drop-in centre for young people in Tralee who may be experiencing difficulties.

THE LATE PETER GLEASURE
Crotta Hurling followers were saddened to hear of the death after a long illness of Peter “Petey” Gleasure, Tullig, Kilflynn on Wednesday 22nd June, Peacefully, at his home.
Petey came from a proud hurling family going back to the Tullig Gamecocks with whom his father and uncle were so involved.
Petey older brother, the late Sean was part of the Crotta golden era and his brother Bob was a keen follower and an avid supporter of all Crotta teams.
Petey was a hard and fearless hurler, who possessed a powerful shot and specialised in driving line balls 70 or 80 yards. He epitomised the spirit and drive of Crotta hurling
In his younger days, Peter played with St.Michael’s (a Crotta /Lixnaw combination)but missed the lather days of the championship in 1953 due to being in St.Brendan’s College. For the next couple of years he played Junior with Kilflynn before graduating to the Crotta Senior final. Unfortunately for Petey his senior career coincided with a valley period in the Crotta Gaa club when the glory was years had ended and the club was in decline. However, he was lucky enough to experience the atmosphere of County Final day in 57’when despite his Trojan effort at no.12 Crotta still failed to stop Ballyduff .He played again in 58’after which he experienced the temporary break of the Crotta Club. However, his passion to the game and his club loyalty remained steadfast and he made a brief comeback in 1969.But,the lay off proved too much and as he later said “The legs did not respond to the mind”.
After this Petey became active in the administration of the club and served as chairman in the early 70’s. Peter will also be remembered as a great supporter of Kerry football and was a regulator visitor to Croke Park in September with his great friend and neighbour Dick Parkinson.
His remains were removed from The Gleasure Funeral Home, Tralee to St. Michael's Church, Lixnaw on Friday evening and Interment in Kilfeighney Cemetery after Requiem Mass on Saturday 25th June. He is precededed by his son Colm. We offer our deepest sympathy to his wife Mary, Sons John and Damien, Daughters Geraldine and Kathryn, Sisters Ina and Joan Ryan (Ennis), Grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends. May he rest in peace.

CROTTA COISTE NA NOG NEWS
Crotta U13 team qualified for the NK u13 final courtesy of a semi final win over near neighbours Lixnaw. Crotta secured victory following avery fortunate goal midway through the first half. It was a less than convincing win and the lads had to dig deep to emerge with victory. Scorers Barry Mahony (0-05) Cathal Kennelly (1-01) Darragh O´Donoghue (0-01).
Just like the County League Final, Ardfert were our Final opponents and the honours again went to them. Crotta did not start well and Ardfert raced into a five point lead within ten mins. Crotta eventually got into their stride. Goals courtesy of Cathal Kennelly and sub Darragh O´Donoghue gave the lads in Green and Red a slender half time lead. Crotta playing into a strong wind played their best hurling for the first twelve mins of the second half. However when leading by two points, a mix up in defence gifted Ardfert a goal and a point. Ardfert gained the upper hand from here on in and ran out eventual winners on a scoreline of Ardfert 3-09 Crotta 2-04. The lads tried their best and Ardfert are that bit physically stronger at present. In defence Dylan McElligott, John Quilter(who is playing great hurling) and Dominic Nolan could not be faulted. Tom Quinlan and Barry Mahony both played well. Again upfront Crotta struggled and only Cathal Kennelly and Darragh O`Donoghue when introduced can be satisfied with their performances. Scorers Cathal Kennelly (1-01)Barry Mahony(0-03) Darragh O´Donoghue (1-00).

Crotta Cul Camp
A very successful Cul Camp was held in The Sports field in Dromakee on Monday 1st to Friday 5th August. Fifty players attended and all had an enjoyable time. Well done to Sean O'Donoghue who got the Player of the week Award and also to Cillian Baker who won the signed Kerry Jersey. Thanks to Maurice Leahy, Co-ordinator and his team of Coaches. The Club wishes David Ryan a speedy recovery following an accidental clash in which he fractured a bone in his arm.
Crotta U15 team surprised everyone this year by reaching the NK Championship Div 2 Final. Played in Lixnaw, Crotta got off to the perfect start and were two points up in five mins through a Darragh Regan free and a point from play by Tom McElligott. The concesssion of a very soft goal disrupted the flow of play and but for one or two players trying to stem the tide Kilmoyley tacked on score after score. This was to prove very costly because a tremendous second half fight back was just not enough when the final whistle sounded. Behind by 11 points at half time Crotta got to within a goal of their opponents but try as they might they could not get that elusive score. Kilmoyley scored a third goal at the death to secure victory. Final score Kilmoyley 3-10 Crotta1 -08. Scorers Barry Mahony(0-04) Darragh Regan(0-03) Cathal Keane(1-00) Tom McElligott(0-01)
Crotta U6 & U8 teams played Ardfert in two challenge matches on Wednesday 3rd August in the sports field, dromakee and did very well. Some really good hurlers coming through and great credit to all who coach at this age group. Congratulations to those boys and girls who wore the Green and Red jersey for the first time.

Crotta and Ardfert U-6 Hurling teams who played a challenge match on Wednesday 3rd August in the sports field, Dromakee, Kilflynn

Crotta U12
Following their Div 3 Phase one win Crotta B team are now playing in Div 2 of the second phase. They will meet stronger opposition here and the Crotta team is really an U10 team. They played their first match last Friday evening at home and lost to Ardfert U12 A team.
Trip to Thurles
A very successful trip to Thurles took place last Tuesday August 9th. A panel of 21 players travelled to the famous stadium and played on the sacred sod where so many hurlers down the years gave outstanding displays.
