DANCING IN KILFLYNN

Commiserations to Megan Weir, Kilflynn and her Kerry Camogie team mates who were defeated in the Liberty Insurance All Ireland Junior B Championship Camogie final by Meath on the final score of 2-04 to 1-05 in Cloughjordan Co Tipperary on Sunday 25th August. Kerry led by 1-05 Meath 1-03 at the interval break. Megan Weir came on at Corner Forward in the second half.

RESULTS
The Crotta under 14 hurlers had a comprehensive victory over Causeway in the North Kerry Championship on Friday evening 23rd August in the final score of 4-18 to 1-09 in the sports field, Dromakee, Kilflynn.
The Abbeydorney/ Crotta Minor hurlers were well defeated by Ardfert in the County Minor Championship quarter final on Sunday afternoon 25th August in Ardfert, on the score of St Brendan's 4-21 to Abbeydorney/ Crotta 2-09. The home side led by 3-09 to 0-7 at half time.
The Crotta Players on the Abbeydorney/Crotta team were: Darragh O'Regan, Darragh Dineen, Tom McElligott (Village), Jordan Conway (1pt), Raymond Nolan and Adrian O'Mahony.

SYMPATHY
The death has occurred of Margaret (Maggie) Moriarty (nee Leen) Knockacaska, Kilflynn, Peacefully, at St Louis Nursing Home, Clonmore, Tralee on Sunday 25th August. Her remains were removed from Hogan's Funeral Home, North Circular Road, Tralee on Tuesday evening to St Mary's Church, Kilflynn, and burial took place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kilflynn after Requiem Mass at 12 noon on Wednesday 28th August.
She is survived by Her husband, Timmy, her three daughters Breda, Maria and Kathleen, her brother Paddy, grandchildren Ella, Nicole, Kate and Jennifer, sons-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and a circle of friends to whom we offer our deepest sympathy. May she rest in peace.

GATHERING CELEBRATION AT KILFEIGNEY CEMETERY
A Historical Gathering Service will take place at Kilfeighney Cemetery, Lixnaw, on Sunday 25th August at 3.00 p.m., where the living and dead will be celebrated through the medium of song, hymns and poetry.
The local people are encouraged to gather at the cemetery entrance from designated areas. (A) The people of Lixnaw are asked to assemble at Clandouglas bridge at 2.30p.m. sharp. (B) The people of Irremore/Rathea are asked to assemble at Clandoughlas School at 2.30p.m. sharp. (C) People from the Kilflynn and lower Tullig area are asked to assemble in Gleasure’s Yard, Tullig at 2.30p.m. sharp. The 3 groups will then process to the cemetery arriving together at 3.00 p.m. where a gathering song will song will be sung and a piper will lead the groups and visitors to a seated area in the cemetery for celebrations. A special feature of the afternoon will be a presentation of the history of the ruins and the area by renowned historian Mr. Sean Quinlan, of Ballyduff. A special blessing of graves of deceased family members will also take place.
Finally the gathering will finish with tea/coffee and local entertainment. The cemetery is signposted off the N69 past the Bog House, at Leam Cross and the turning is on the left hand side on the way from Tralee.

LIXNAW GOLF SOCIETY
The Society headed to Mahoneys Point Golf Course in Killarney last Saturday for the Presidents Prize competition, the course was in excellent condition, windy conditions made the course play a lot tougher than usual.The winner on the day was Brendan Keane on 34pts, 2nd was Pj McAuliffe Who also scored 34pts, 3rd was J. McCarthy on 33pts, 4th was M.Fuller on 32pts, 5th was J.Connor on 32pts and 6th was P.Walsh on 31pts.The front 9 was won by E.Enright on 17pts and the back 9 by M.Devaney on 18pts.The Past Presidents prize went to M.Fahy on 31pts and the guest prize was won by C.Fitzmaurice on 39pts. Thanks to everyone who made the trip to Killarney.

HERITAGE IN A KILFLYNN GARDEN
For thousands of years people in Ireland have turned to plants to heal and stay healthy. That heritage is still alive today and nowhere more so than in the garden of Kilflynn herbalist, Christine Best. Christine has been practising Herbal Medicine in the Tralee and Listowel areas since graduating in Herbal Medicine 11 years ago. With National Heritage Week well under way, Christine is offering people the chance to re-discover their heritage by opening her Herb Garden to the public. The garden at Stacksmountain, Kilflynn is open on Sunday 25th August from 11.00 a.m. until 6.00 p.m. with guided walks with Christine and colleague Elly McGregor Hodgkiss taking place at 12 and 3pm. There will be plenty to interest all ages with refreshments and a children’s area, plants and herbal remedies for sale. The Crotta Coiste Bord Na Nog Hurling club had a very successful bag packing day in Garveys Super Valu, Tralee on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th August. A big thank you goes to Garveys Super Valu, for allowing us to bag pack in their store. Thank you to all the bag packers, everyone that organised the day and of course a special thank you to everyone that contributed which is especially generous in these recessionary times. The monies raised goes towards the running costs of Crotta Coiste Bord Na Nog throughout the year.

A storming second half during which Kerry minor hurlers outscored their opponents Westmeath by 11 points to 6 earned Kerry an Electric Ireland All Ireland Minor B Championship Final spot at Moneygall Co Tipperary on Saturday evening 17th August on the final of 1-16 to 0-13 . They now meet Meath, conquerors of Donegal in the other semi final, the final will be held on Saturday 7th September.

NEW BAND
Local band Blacktie Affair will play at the after party for the Roses, invited Guests and supporters in The Carlton Hotel, Tralee on Monday night 19th August after The Rose of Tralee televised selection. Before the Rose of Tralee performance, Blacktie affair will a hold a dress rehearsal in Parker’s lounge bar on Thursday 15th August at 9.30p.m. All welcome to attend. INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S GAMES
Best of luck to John Byrne, Kilflynn and 16 members of the Tralee International Children games who compete at Tralee International Children games and Cultural festival in Canada, from Wednesday 14th to Monday 19th August. The festival will feature teams from 100 cities from all the world. John is a coach to the boys soccer team, that will take on teams from Russian, Croatian and Pakistani.

The Society travelled to Ballyhegiue Golf Club last Wednesday for a 9 hole scramble, weather was perfect and the course was in excellent condition.The winning team on the night was N.Sullivan, P.J. Mc Auliffe and R.Hussey. The next outing on the calendar is the Presidents Prize competition on Saturday 17th of August on the Mahoneys Point course in Killarney, members will be contacted during the coming week.

Crotta under 14 hurlers had a 6-07 to 1-07 over Ballyduff in the North Kerry Championship at Ballyduff on Saturday evening 10th August.

CROTTA CUL CAMP
Another very successful Kellogg's GAA Cul Camp was held at the Sporsfield, Dromakee, Kilflynn and in St Senan’s Sports Hall, in Mounthcoal from Monday July 29th to Friday August 2nd . Forty eight players attended and all had an enjoyable action-packed and fun-filled week. Well done to Aodhan McKenna who received the Player of the week Award. Thanks to Maurice Leahy, Co-ordinator and his team of Coaches Jennifer Conway, Anthony Fealy, Jason Leahy and Patrice Diggins.

RING OF NORTH KERRY CYCLE 2013
Best of luck to all the local cyclists who are taking part in The third annual Ring of North Kerry Cycle (120km and 70km routes) on Saturday 10th August. This event is organised by the Finuge Freewheelers

MUSIC ART AND DRAMA SUMMER CAMP
commencing in St Columbas centre , Kilflynn on August 12-16th , 9:30-1:30 daily. The cost is €50 for the first child and €45 for subsequent siblings. Participants will try out musical instruments including violin , cello, flute, guitar, keyboard etc. The will also cover all kinds of arts and crafts including clay modelling, painting and paper crafts. The Crotta hurlers booked their place in The County Senior Hurling League Div 3 Final against a very determined Austin Stack side at the sports field, dromakee, Kilflynn on Wednesday evening 31st July, on the score line of Crotta 2-09 to Austin Park 1-06. The home side led by 1-05 to 0-05 at half time, Crotta team and Scorers: Jerome O’Sullivan, Brendan Mahony, Tom B Mc Elligott (Snr), Raymond O’Connell, Mike Ryan, Pa Quille (0-01), Keith Hanafin, J.P Mc Eligott (0-01), Tom McElligott (Village), Jack Towmey, Francis Keane(0-01), Peter McGrath (0-01), Eoin Lynch (2-00), Sean Twomey (0-05) and Brendan Culhane. Subs Tom Stack for B.Culhane, Luke Ward for J.Twomey (Inj) and Aiden Sheehan for E.Lynch. Crotta will now play Kenmare in the final. There was no joy for Crotta u-13 hurlers on Friday evening in dromakee when they were defeated by Abbeydorney on score of 4-07 to 1-03. Crotta under 14 hurlers play Causeway in the North Kerry Championship at Dromakee on Wednesday 7th August at 7.00 p.m.

CROTTA LOTTO RESULTS
The four numbers picked out of the drum for the Crotta hurling club’s weekly lottery draw with a Jackpot of €4,300 by Independent Observer: Ger McCarthy Lissanerla Abbeydorney were: 5, 9, 11 and 14 on Monday 5th August in Herbert‘s Bar, Kilflynn. There was No Jackpot winner. The Lucky dip prizes winner each receives €35: Mike Parker, Kilflynn, William Buckey, Lixnaw and Ciara Houlihan, C/o Herbert’s, Kilflynn. The next draw will take place in Parker‘s Pub, Kilflynn on Monday night 12th August with a Jackpot of 4,400.
