St.Teresa's National School will re open on Thursday 28th August at 9.00a.m.

ACTIVE RETIRED GROUP

DANCING IN KILFLYNN

LIXNAW GOLF SOCIETY
The Society headed to Ballyhegiue Golf Club last Thursday evening to play a 9 hole Scramble, the course was in excellent condition, a credit to John and Marion Barrett. The winning team on the evening was Roger Hussey, John McAuliffe and Mossie Kelliher,thanks to everyone who particapated.The Society head to Castlegregory Golf Club next Saturday to play an 18 hole Stableford competition.The 1st Tee is reserved from 10am to 11am, committee members will be in touch during the week.

The Crotta Hurling Club lotto draw was held on Monday Night 25th August in Parker's Pub, Kilflynn. The Four numbers drawn out of the drum by the independent observer John Byrne, Prims Restaurant, Kilflynn were 1,5,6 & 26. There was No winner of €4,700 Jackpot. following won €35 in the lucky dip draw: Mossie Dowling, Ballyrehan, Lixnaw, Niamh McKenna, C/o Paudie Twomey, Abbeydorney and Ger McCarthy Lissanerla Abbeydorney.

KERRY U-21 HURLERS
The Kerry U-21 hurlers were dethroned of their All Ireland U-21 All Ireland B Championship title at Ennis on Saturday 23rd August when they were defeated by Rocommon by 4-10 to 2-13. Crotta Hurlers Tom McElligott Jnr and Paudie Quille were members of the Kerry panel.

MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
The Abbeydorney/ Crotta minor hurlers had a 4-14 to 0-03 over a gallant Kilmoyley side in the Keanes Super Valu Minor County Hurling Championship quarter final on Saturday evening 23rd August in perfect playing conditions in Lerrig.

Crotta U-12 hurlers had a comprehensive victory over a gallant Kilgarvan side on Thursday evening 14th August in the County Hurling League Division 2, at the sportsfield Dromakee, Kilflynn.

begins a new term on Saturday 6th September in Na Gaeil Football Club Tralee. The school has been established

NATIONAL HERITAGE WEEK
This Sunday, as part of National Heritage Week, Kilflynn Herbalist, Christine Best, will open her garden to the public to allow a glimpse into the history and heritage of Herbal Medicine in Ireland. Christine comments ‘Many of the herbs I use in my practice, here in Kilflynn, grow well in Ireland either wild or cultivated and many of them can be seen in my garden. It can be quite surprising what useful plants can be found growing at our feet! ’Christine’s garden is at Stacksmountain, Kilflynn and will be open on Sunday 24th August from 11am until 6pm, free of charge. There will be lots to see and do with guided herb walks at 12noon and 3pm and notes and a map so you can explore the garden yourself if you prefer. There will be complimentary herb teas and refreshments available and plants and remedies for sale with any profits and donations going to charity. A supervised children’s area will make the day enjoyable for all ages. If you would like further information you can contact Christine on 086 1939217.

CROTTA GAA
Our U14 team played two matches recently in the North Kerry Championship. They were beaten well by a strong Abbeydorney outfit in their first match and beat Tralee Parnells in their second match. They U14 team also played a tournament game last Saturday week in Dromakee when we welcomed back one of our former Crotta hurlers. Mike O'Connor from Lisereen now living in Clare brought the Inagh/Kilnamona U14 team to play Crotta. Trophies were sponsored by the visiting club and a presentation took place in the St Columbas Centre after the match. Crotta emerged winners of the match after a good contest. Tom Godley refereed the match. Chairman of Crotta Coiste na nOg presented a Plaque to Mike O'Connor on behalf of the Crotta Club. Trophies were presented to all participating players by both the Inagh/Kilnamona Chairman and the Chairman of Crotta Coite na nOg. The four Crotta Mentors Aiden Sheehan, Tom O'Donoghue, Paul O'Donoghue and Shane Herbert were also presented with trophies by the visiting Club. The mentors of Crotta U14's in turn presented Mike O'Connor with a gear bag and Tee shirt emblazoned with the Crotta crest and in the Club colours. Mike's son Jack captained the Inagh/Kilnamona team and Crotta were captained by Eamonn Rohan. The Club would like to thanks Parents of players for help in serving food and helping to tidy up the Centre. We would also like to thank Tom and Pat O'Connell, Eamon Shanahan and Sonny Egan for providing music and song.
Our U15 team won the NK Championship against a gallant Causeway team on a score line of Crotta 7-06 Causeway 6-05. Crotta looked to have this game won on three different occasions but Causeway fought back each time. Crotta eventually held out and Eamon Shanahan collected the NK U15 Trophy from Mikie Leahy Chairman NK Coiste na nOg. Crotta were dominant in the middle of the field with Darragh Behan and Darragh O'Donoghue providing a plentiful supply of ball to the forward division. John Quilter was scorer in chief bagging 4-01 and Barry Mahony was also to the fore scoring 1-05. Dominic Nolan and Adam O'Sullivan scored a goal each. Full panel of Players in next week notes.
Crotta U16's have had contrasting results in their first two NK U16 matches. They beat Tralee Parnells and lost to Ardfert.

SYMPATHY
Crotta Coiste na nOg would like to offer their sympathy to the Family of Nell Murphy(nee O'Sullivan) Ballyduff who passed away recently. Nell was a great hurling woman who never missed a match that Ballyduff were playing. She also said to the writer of these notes on several occasions that Crotta had some brilliant young hurlers at underage level. This was great to hear coming from a very knowledgeable hurling woman. May she Rest in Peace.

Well done to the Kerry minor Hurlers who qualified for the All Ireland Minor “B” Final and a meeting with Meath following a comprehensive victory over Roscommon on Saturday 16th August in Nenagh on a score of 2-22 to 0-05. The Crotta Hurling Club was well represented on the victories team by Adrian Mahony at corner back, Jordan Conway came on corner forward and scored a point, Darragh Ryan and Tom Mc Elligott were on the sub bench

CROTTA CUL CAMP
Another very successful Kellogg's GAA Cul Camp was held in ideal weather conditions at the Sporsfield, Dromakee, Kilflynn from Monday July 28th to Friday August 1st . Forty five players attended and all had an enjoyable action-packed and fun-filled week. Congratulations and well done to Sean McGrath who received the Player of the week Award and Congratulations and well done al so to Denis Nolan who won the Skills competition. Thanks to Maurice Leahy, Co-ordinator and his team of Coaches Megan Weir, Shane Noan, Jason Leahy, Patrice Diggins and Darren Leahy.

The Crotta U-12 Hurlers had mix luck in the County Hurling League Division 2, on Friday 1st August at Dr Crokes Pitch, Lewis Road, Crotta U12 hurlers had a 5-07 to 3-03 victory over a gallant Dr.Crokes side. The visitors led by 3 -04 to Dr.Crokes 2-02 at the interval break.
On Friday evening 8th August at the sports field, dromakee,Kilflynn. Tralee Parnells had a 2-04 to 2-03 victory over Crotta. Well done to the Tralee lads on a well deserved victory over the local side in an exciting and entertaining game. Tralee Parnells led by 1-02 to 0-02 at half time. Crotta are at home to Kilgarvan on Thursday evening 14th August at 7.00p.m.

LIXNAW GOLF SOCIETY
The Golf Society made the trip to Killarney Golf and Fishing Club last Saturday to play Gerry Fullers Captains Prize on the Killeen course.The course was in excellent condition which contributed to some great scores.N. Sullivan came out on top with a score of 37pts, he also won the longest drive on the 18th hole. M.Fuller came 2nd,also with 37pts.P.Walshe came 3rd with 35pts,C.Keeffe came 4th with 34pts, J. McCarthy came 5th, also with 34pts.E.Enright came 6th with 33pts,Eddie also won the the nearest the pin on the 6th hole.The past Captains Prize was won by B.Keane with 33pts,the front 9 was won by T.Lynch with 18pts and the back 9 by M.Fahy with 20pts. The Guest Prize was won by M.Sullivan with a score of 30pts.The Presentations of Prizes was held at Dew Drop Inn that night,thanks to Pat and James for their hospitality.Finally thanks to everyone who made the trip to Killarney.The Society next head to Ballyhegiue Golf Club on August 21st for a 9 hole scramble.

MUSIC, ART AND DRAMA SUMMER CAMP
Music, art and drama summer camp for commencing in St Columbus community centre, Kilflynn on August 11-15th, 9:30-1:30 daily. The cost is €50 for the first child and €45 for subsequent siblings. Participants will try out musical instruments including violin , cello, flute, guitar, keyboard etc. We will be doing songs from the Disney movie " Frozen".The camp will also cover all kinds of arts and crafts including clay modelling, painting and paper crafts. The beautiful ceremony was performed by Fr. Pat O'Donnell, Rathmore P.P. The wedding reception was held in the Aghadoe Heights Hotel, Killarney which was attended by family and friends, and On Sunday 3rd August Sarah and John were joined by their families, relatives and friends in Ballyseede Castle Hotel, Tralee to mark their special occasion. A great day and night, was had by all in attendance. The couple will reside in Kerry. We wish Sarah and John a long and happy life together.

The death has occurred of Hannah Cashell, (née Sheehan) Cloonafineela, Kilflynn, in the care of Riverside Nursing Home, Abbeydorney and late of Cloonafineela, Kilflynn, on Wednesday 30th July. Her remains were removed from Stack's Funeral Home, Lixnaw, on Friday 1st August to St. Mary's Church, Kilflynn. Requiem mass on Saturday at 11am celebrated by Fr. Denis O'Mahony and Burial afterwards in Kilshinane Cemetery. On behalf of the Community we offer our sincere sympathies to her sister Mary (Christie, Duleek, Meath), nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. May she rest in peace.
