TADY BUCKLEY
Crotta recently lost another of its hurling sons with the sudden death of Thady Buckley, Coming from a family with a strong hurling tradition, Thady played with Crotta in the fifties and continued his support for the green and red throughout his life, unfortunately for Crotta hurling, Thady’s years in the Crotta jersey were limited as he emigrated. Having won a County Senior Hurling Championship medal as member of the Crotta panel in 1951, a promising hurling career seemed inevitable but emigration intervened and he went to England. Thady’s next appearance in the green and red was during the 1957 championship campaign, having been home on holidays for the ‘57 quarter final against John Mitchels , he answered the call of the Crotta Selectors to remain at home for the Semi final and final. Thady lined out at centre forward in that 1957 final and acquitted himself with distinction through pitted against the legendary Michael Hennessy. It was Ironic that Thady’s brother Jer- the noted Club and County goalie had emigrated to America, shortly after playing in the All-Ireland Junior Final with Kerry against Kilkenny, so the brothers never figured together on county on County final day. Thady was regarded as a classy, wholehearted hurler best remembered for his over head flicks which yielded many points. A true gentleman with a charming and gentle manner , Thady was married to Bridget Mc Carthy of the well known Lixnaw hurling Family and lived in Lixnaw village , nevertheless , Thady remained a steadfast Crotta man and always flew the green and red flag when Crotta was involved on County final day. To his wife Bridget, Daughters Margaret and Carolyn, Brothers Michael, Dan and Willie, Sons-in-Law Denis and Liam, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends we offer our deepest sympathy.

UNDER 8 BLITZ
Last Saturday our under 8 team took part in the Kilmoyley under 8 blitz. Four teams took part and the draw paired us with Kilmoyley in the first game. The team played exceptionally well and won this game with a number of different players scoring. We then played Ardfert in the next game as they had beaten Abbeydorney. In what was a very exciting game with nothing between the teams we were defeated by a puck of a ball in the finish. We had possession of the ball for long periods but failed to capitalise on this possession.
Outstanding over the two games were Sean O'Donoghue in goals, Dominic Nolan and Dylan McElligott in defence and Jack McKenna who showed a lot of steely determination in midfield. Chloe McElligott (7) and Darragh O'Donoghue (5 1/2) made their debuts in the Crotta colours. John Quilter made a welcome return in the green and red jersey and scored two goals in the game against Kilmoyley. Aoife Behan, Barry Mahony and Brandon Conway got through a lot of work in midfield. The team lined out as follows: Goalkeeper: Sean O'Donoghue
Backs: Dominic Nolan, Dylan McElligott, Darragh Behan & Cillian Mullins
Midfielders: Jack McKenna, Brandon Conway & Barry Mahony
Forwards: Adam O'Sullivan, Aoife Behan, John Quilter & David Ryan
Subs: Chloe McElligott, Nathan Fahy & Darragh O’Donoghue. All subs played their part at different stages of the day.
We would like to thank the Kilmoyley Club especially Ian Brick for inviting us to take part and their hospitality on the day.
Hurling Training for under 8's and under 10's continues on Wednesday evenings at 6.45pm.
The club has a number of helmets for sale at €25 each.

GOLF
Abbeydorney Golf Society held their President Dan Brassil’s Prize day at Beaufort Golf Club last Saturday. Whilst the weather conditions were inclement the course was in excellent condition which was reflected in the scoring. 40 golfers participated and the outing was kindly sponsored by Feale Oil to whom the society is most grateful. Our thanks also to Mc Elligott’s Bar, Abbeydorney for their hospitality in hosting the presentation.
It was appropriate that the winner of the President’s prize was a former rugby playing colleague of the President whom the President said would always look after you in any tight situation on the field of play. It was none other than the big hitting Mundy Hayes who was having his third win in recent weeks and no doubt the handicapper will be shaving a few shots off his handicap. Mundy has certainly made rapid progress since taking up the game and some locals are wondering when he will be taking on that other form golfer Tiger Woods. He should certainly be able to match him in the driving game as he was also the winner of the poc fada (long drive).
Results as follows:
1st Mundy Hayes (22) 42 pts, 2nd Mike Hickey (17) 41 pts, 3rd Michael Barry (12) 39pts, 4th Dan O’Connor (10) 39pts, Front Nine Declan Falvey (22) 20pts, Back Nine James McGrath (12) 20pts, Nearest the Pin Tom O’Connor, Longest Drive Mundy Hayes.
Guest Prizes -- Men 1st P. J. Luddy (22) 37 pts 2nd Vincent O’Sullivan (15) 35pts.
Guest Prize -- Ladies Ursula Scullion (30) 30pts.
Our next outing is to Kenmare Golf Club on the 2nd September which will be Singles Stableford with the tee reserved from 12:00 to 1:30. Guests are welcome.

EXAM RESULTS
THE long wait is finally over and a few of our youngsters know their fate in relation to their examination results. Firstly, congratulations to all, regardless of the results, as you have just completed a stressful part of your life. Hopefully you got the grades you needed but if not don’t worry. For some of you the next time you enter a school it will be as a parent in a teacher-meeting for others this will be the start of a life in academics either way hopefully it will all work out. But as wise man once said, “The journey of life is more important than the destination.”
