CILLARD CAMOGIE CLUB
Congratulations to the Cillard U14 team on winning the LIMERICK U14 Camogie Club Tournament. This tournament was played out over two Saturdays in Croagh with the girls having already successfully beaten Cappamore, Templeglantine and Croagh placing them in the semi-finals against Knockaderry. This proved a tough game and went into extra time. At the end of extra time Cillard had scored two points and Knockaderry one point placing Cillard in the final. The final score in this game was 1-6 to 1-5. The final saw us up against our neighbouring club Causeway. Again this proved a very tight game with extra time played. Both teams scored a point in extra time but as the end approached and no sign of an extra score, Lady Luck shone in the form of Marianne Nolan with the winning goal. The final score in this game was 4-2 to 3-2. The team was Sarah Fitzgerald, Rachel Mc Elligott, Aoife Fitzgerald, Treise Moran, Cora O Carroll, Orlaith Young, Tara Lowe, Shannon Lowe, Alanna Maunsell, Jessica Fitzell, Marianne Nolan, Megan Weir (captain) and Orlaith Casey. CROTTA SENIOR HURLERS
Crotta 3-12, Ballyheigue 0-17
A Youthful Crotta side advanced to the Semi final of the County Senior championship when they defeated a gallant Ballyheigue side at Austin Stack Park, Tralee on Sunday evening 23rd August on the 3-12 to 0-17 final scoreline. The lads in green and red who are the youngest team in this year’s championship played with the wind in the first half. Ronan Kenny and Mark Dineen had two early points for Ballyheigue, but Andrew Keane and Sean Weir levelled for Crotta, after Ned Flahive had given Ballyheigue the lead in the 12th minute with a point, Crotta stuck for the crucial score in the 14th minute when Kerry minor hurler Shane Nolan collected the Sliotar and fired the Sliotar past a helpless John Martin Pierce. The rest of the half develop into a battle of free takers with Keane only missing once as he added six points to the Crotta score board and Michael Slattery converted three frees for Ballyheigue. Crotta led at the interval break by 1-08 to 0-07.

The seasides started the second half with points from Willie Joe Leen and Michael Slattery free but they were then hit with another sucker-punch when Francis Keane picked out Kerry minor hurler Sean Weir inside the Ballyheigue defence and shot low to the net. In the 41st Minute when a ballyheigue goalkeeping error saw Sean Weir flick the Sliotar to Matt Lynch, whose cross was deflected to the ballyheigue net by Kerry minor star Shane Nolan. Crotta led by 3-09 to 0-10. Crotta’s wing back Paul Costello scored a excellent point . Ballyheigue rallied with points from Ronan Kenny and Diarmuid Walsh but Crotta’s young players who appeared to be hungrier than opponents held on for a well deserving victory. Crotta minor players, Eoin O’Sullivan and Sean weir, will be pleased with their Senior hurling championship debuts, with Eoin keeping a clean sheet in goals and Sean scoring 1-01. Well done to the young Crotta panel and their mentors of Paul Shanahan, Sean Heffernan and John Shanahan on their fine victory

KERRY MINOR HURLERS
Kerry 4 – 23 Meath 0 – 10
At Toomevera, Co Tipperary on Saturday last the Kerry Minor hurlers swept aside the weak challenge of a poor Meath side to easily qualify for the final of the All-Ireland “B” Hurling Championship. Meath had the advantage of the stiff breeze in the first half and led 0–04 to 0–03 at the end of the first quarter. Kerry then took a stranglehold on matters and two Pádraig Boyle goals helped Kerry into a 2–06 to 0–07 interval lead. Meath struck for the first score of the second half but any hopes of a “Royal” comeback was dashed as Kerry fired 1–12 without reply in 20 minutes. Meath were reduced to thirteen players when centre-forward Mark O’Sullivan received a second yellow card three minutes into the half but such was Kerry’s dominance the numerical difference was of little importance. Padraig Boyle 3–06, Shane Nolan 1–06 and Brian Leen 0–03 were the leading Kerry scorers while Keith Keoghan 0–05 all from placed balls was the Meath men’s top scorer. The Crotta hurling was once again well represented by Sean Weir playing at centre field scoring 0-01 and Shane Nolan scoring 1-06 at corner Forward.
Best of luck to Shane and Sean, their team mates and their mentors who contest the All Ireland Minor B Championship final against Westmeath on Saturday in Nenagh
