FR.PAT O’DONNELL/KILFLYNN CANCER SUPPORT TABLE QUIZ
Local quiz buffs will be heading to Parker’s and Herbert’s Bars, Kilflynn in large numbers on this Friday night December 28th for The Fr Pat O Donnell/Kilflynn Cancer Support Fund, Fourth Annual Table Quiz in aid of Cancer Support Fund.
To date €17,362.28 has risen through the quizzes in Kilflynn. The response to the quiz has greatly exceeded expectations and a big turnover is anticipated on Friday night.
Once again the man with the questions is John O’Flaherty and he is sure to produce some very thought provoking questions. There will be an abundance of fine spot prizes to be won in the raffle and a very valuable prize to be won on the night.
The quiz will kick off at 9 00pm so if you have not participated in the quiz yet this is your opportunity. As well as supporting a very worthy cause a great night’s entertainment is also guaranteed.
We thank you for your generous support in the past and look forward to your company this Christmas.

THE LATE TOMASIN NOLAN
The local community was saddened to hear of the recent death of Tomasin Nolan, Clandouglas.
Tomasin enjoyed a long and healthy life until the few years when that old spirit and humour was absent. Tomasin grew up when this state was in its infancy, when hardship and scarcity were an accepted part of life, yet never a man to complain or dwell on the past and like so many others of his era he turned to hurling to escape the boredom of life.
He was also blessed in having a wonderful pillar of support for nearly 60 years in his beloved Nance- a kind hearted and wonderful wife and mother.
As a hurler Tomasin was deemed a legend among his fellow players, he played with the best and he surpassed the best, not only did he dominate Kerry Hurling himself but he saw all his sons play for Crotta. He also saw Cyril and Todd adorn Kerry hurling with distinction. Todd being acknowledged as one of Kerry’s supreme hurling artists.
Tomasin talents were recognised at the young age of 19 when won his first county senior championship medal and he was still a leading light 14 years later in 1957 when he suffered his second county final defeat. The intervening years had brought much fame at club and county level- 6 County Senior championship medals which included the Three in a row 1943/4/5 and the double 50/51 as well as the 47 victory. He also had the honour of captaining the 1951 winning side.
Tomasin was inducted into the Crotta GAA Club’s Hall of Fame in 1990. He shares the honour with many of the greats who donned the Green and Red of Crotta so proudly in the past.
Tomasin’s other great passion was card playing and he proved to be as formidable opponent at card table as he had been on the hurling field. In truth he got the greatest pleasure from obtaining tricks by stealth in spite of vigilance of his fellow card players. Here again his hand and eye co-ordination were unsurpassed.
Tomasin has now joined the majority of his former colleagues up above but his legacy lives on and will be carried forward by grandsons Richard, Shane, Raymond and Dominic and other young Crotta hurlers. To his family we extend our deepest sympathy.

TAEKWON-DO
On Monday 10th December, Seven Students from The Pilsung School of Taekwon-Do, Kilflynn, took the short journey to Tralee, where the fourth and final colour belt testing for 2007 took place. Brother and Sister Eoin and Ciara Galvin, Mountcoal and Ryan Ward, Ballyconnell Heights went for their yellow belt, although only 6 years Eoin Galvin performed like a little magician where he pulled all of the Taekwon-do tricks out of the hat, A bright future awaits this young boy, Ryan Ward and Ciara Galvin showed a packed hall the standard of kicking ability, next was Theresa Ward and Sarah Morris, Kilflynn and Sean Harrington, Killahan, these three going for green tip. This was a tough testing for these students as they had to demonstrate a vast array of kick, blocks strikes, and Self Defence Techniques, Sean Harrington showed in Taekwon-do the true meaning of tenent perseverance. All passing with high marks, next up was Jamie Mullins going for Green belt, Jamie having spent almost forty minutes on the floor, showing a vast array of Taekwon-do techniques, but sadly on this occasion did not succeed by the slightest margins, it is hoped sometime in 2008 a Taekwon-do Master will visit Kilflynn and do a class, also a enter school competition is planned, both Instructors Michael and Wayne Murphy would like to thank all parents and students , Maureen Weir and Mike Parker (Public Relations Officer) for their support thought out 2007 and wish everyone a happy new year.
