CROTTA INDOOR HURLING LEAGUE FINAL
The final of the Crotta five a side indoor Senior hurling league final 2009 took place in St. Senan's sports hall in Mountcaol on Wednesday 16th December in front of a large crowd. The tournament was made up of five 5 a side teams from the locality, The teams included The N69, Tullig/Cappa, Kilflynn, Garrynagore and The Green Road. The competition was played over the last three months and after fourteen closely contested games Kilflynn and Tullig/Cappa prevailed to contested the final. As with all the games this was a very closely contested game played in great spirit with great skill from both teams on view. However on this occasion it was the Kilflynn combination made up of brothers Andrew, Martin and Francis Keane, Shane Herbert and Sean Weir that took the honours on a score line of 27-23. Tullig/Cappa played a great game, however the loss of Goalkeeper Eoin Lynch who had an excellent tournament proved costly to their cause. The Tullig/Cappa team of Keneth Nolan, Johnny Hannon, Pa Quille, Diarmuid McKenna and Sean Twomey who signed from Garrynagore in the December transfer window... were gracious in defeat and would to be back in 2010.

Recovery Haven is being set up with the approval and guidance of the Irish Cancer Society and will focus on supporting those patients who have finished their hospital cancer treatment and need help putting their life back on line. This will be done in their house at Haig’s Terrace which will be a warm, welcoming, safe centre for these people. Members of the group will be present at the quiz to speak about their project.
The Marymount Hospice in Cork will also benefit from the quiz. As well as the usual ‘easy’ questions and craic there will be numerous spot prizes and auctions on the night. Items for auction this year include a signed Kerry jersey donated by Kerry captain Darren O’Sullivan; Shane has donated his beloved Michael Owen Man. U jersey, there will also be hampers and signed books on offer in the ‘mini auctions’ during the night. Over the five years of the quiz’s existence the people of Kilflynn and the surrounding area have contributed in excess of 25 thousand euro to worthy cancer causes so keep up the good work again this year. The night’s activities kick off at 9.00 pm sharp and your support would be greatly appreciated.

HELMET REGULATIONS
A reminder to some of our Crotta hurling club members that From 1st January 2010 the wearing of helmets with faceguards will be compulsory for hurlers at all levels.
This will see senior players in 2010 follow the regulations already in place at the minor and under 21 grades of hurling. In introducing and streamlining these regulations the GAA continues its commitment to ensuring player welfare on the field of play with the specific intention of reducing injuries. The injuries which the compulsory wearing of helmets will prevent and reduce in numbers are specifically those related to the head, face, eye and dental regions.
There are significant injuries which can be sustained in these areas including scalp lacerations, concussions, skull fractures, jaw fractures, cheekbone fractures, nasal fractures, penetrating eye injury and orbital fractures, facial lacerations and damage to and avulsion of teeth in both the upper and lower jaws.
The compulsory wearing of helmets with full faceguards, both in training and matches, will significantly reduce the occurrence of these injuries. Hurlers of all ages, including those at nursery clubs when holding a hurley in their hand must wear a helmet and faceguard at all times.
The helmets and faceguards worn by the player should comply with the specific standard required by the GAA which is in compliance with the ISS 355 standard and test. From January 1, 2010 match officials will be obliged to stop play if any player at any level appears on the field of play without the necessary standard of equipment outlined above.
The player will be advised of the requirements that the new regulations place on him and his continued participation will be dependent on his complete compliance with these regulations.
