TABLE QUIZ
All roads will lead to Kilflynn on Tuesday December 28th, for the Kilflynn Cancer Support Fund seventh annual Table Quiz in aid The Kilflynn Cancer Support Group in Parker’s Pub and Herbert’s bar, Kilflynn at 9.00 p.m. The group was founded in 2004 by Fr. Pat O’Donnell, himself a cancer survivor, and the money raised was channelled to charities he had become aware of during his illness. Since then the major fundraiser has been a monster table quiz which is held in the local pubs each Christmas. As well as being a great fundraiser the quiz has become a great social occasion for local families during the festive season with as many as fifty tables participating. This year the quiz will be held on Tuesday night, December 28th, by simulcast in Parker’s and Herbert’s Pubs.Since 2004 the quiz has raised a total of €33,253; the proceeds being divided mainly between the Chemo Therapy Unit at Tralee General Hospital and Cork University Hospital Cancer Care. Last year the money was divided between Marymount Hospice, Cork and Recovery Haven, Tralee. During the quiz additional funds have been raised by auctioning off various signed jerseys, books and sporting items. Last Christmas Brian Cody’s signed autobiography sold for €230, a signed Joe Cooney sliotar made €50 and a signed Kerry jersey made €400 and ended up in a pub in Chicago.
This year internationally renowned artist Linda Graham, who lives locally, has kindly donated one of her paintings for the group to auction. Linda trained in fine art in The Hague, Netherlands and art and design in Dublin in the 1970’s. She paints contemporary landscapes and portraits in oil, including large works and murals. Linda has also studied Art Therapy and has worked in community arts and with various marginalised groups.
Linda has works in private collections in Ireland, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, The Vatican, The United States, Singapore and Portugal. The Office of Public Works, the breast check unit at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Interpol’s Sirene Centre at Phoenix Park and The Legal Aid Board have all acquired her work for their public collections in recent times.
She has had several residencies at the Cill Rialaig Project and her paintings can be seen at the Cill Rialaig gallery and the Origin Gallery, Dublin. Along with many group exhibitions, she has had successful solo exhibitions in Britain, Ireland and the U.S.A. Her latest four solo shows in Dublin have been extremely successful. Work can be seen on www.lindagrahamart.com. Following extensive media coverage of her work, RTÉ made a documentary on Graham’s life and work in autumn 2007. The group are thrilled to have been given this donation and as it is worth several thousand euro and wish to give the general public, companies or institutions a chance to purchase this fine piece and also help cancer charities; enquiries about the painting can be made to kilflynnium@eircom.net. The night’s activities kick off at 9.00 pm sharp and your support would be greatly appreciated .Once again the man with the questions is JohnO’Flaherty
