ROAD FIX IN 06

I’ve received an email Recently from Catherine O’ Mahoney, of the Roads, Transportation & Safety department of The Kerry County Council. Re the "appalling condition" of The Main road to Kilflynn Village from The Listowel\Tralee. Catherine said “The section of roadway
(L-1028) which runs from the N69 (Listowel Road) to Kilflynn Bridge is included in the Non-National Restoration Improvement Programme 2006-2008 and will be completed in 2006. It is hoped to have this section of road completed by end of May / start of June 2006.” Kerry County Council will be spending €60,000 in 2006 on this road.

NINTIETH BIRTHDAY
Warm Congratulations are extended Mrs. Margaret Galvin, Crotta who celebrated her 90th Birthday with her Six Sons Kevin, John, Tom, Dan, Diarmuid and Pat and their wives at a party in Ballygarry House Hotel Tralee on Saturday night 25th February. Her Sister Annie and brother Mikie along with Margaret’s Seventeen Grandchildren and her great grand child were also present at the function. Margaret has another brother Pat in Chicago. Many travelled vast distances from all over the globe to be present with her on this marvellous milestone in her life. All her family and friends wish her a very happy birthday and toast too many more happy ones.

Abbeydorney Golf Society will hold its first outing for 2006 at Castlegregory Golf Club on Saturday next the 4th Mar. The tee is booked between 11:00am and 12:30pm The format is a 4 person scramble. Guests are welcome to play. Membership for the year has again been set at €35 and is now payable. FOOTBALL FINAL
St. Brendan’s Football Board Senior Football Championship Final for the Phil Mc McCarthy Cup, will be played at Austin Stack’s Park, Tralee UNDERLIGHTS next Saturday night, March 4th at 7.30 p.m. Newly crowned All Ireland Junior Football Champions Ardfert will play Na Gael, Tralee. C’mon and see the All Ireland Champions in their First game since their historic victory.

RALLY NIGHT OUT
Rally enthusiasts and their friends will gather in Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn on Saturday night 4th March to celebrate with John Kearney, Ardfert and his navigator Denis O'Connell, Rae Kilflynn on their victory in BioTech Kerry Winter Rally. This is the first time that a Kerry Motor Club driver has won the home event since Brendan Brosnan's victory in 1996. The Kearney-O'Connell partnership were presented with the Donal O' Flaherty Memorial John Kearney was a great friend and near neighbour of the late Donal O'Flaherty while Denis O'Connell was Donal's regular navigator. This made the presentation of the award extra special for the Ardfert and Kilflynn Duo. Music on the night will be provided by Moss Hannon. All welcome to attend

GREYHOUND RACING
Congratulations to Denis Lynch, Clounafineela, Kilflynn whose Greyhound OLORDYESMAN won the final of Icy Joe Stud Dog Sweep Stake in in the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium Tralee last Friday night 24th February. The Greyhound is trained in Castleisland by John O Sullivan. Denis's Greyhounds have built up quiet a following of late.

DARTS
The weekly Darts Doubles Tournament winners on Saturday night last at Parker’s lounge Bar, were the Twomey Brothers Sean and J.P who defeated Richard Parkinson and Mike Fealy in the final 3-2. Rumour has It the J.P will shortly open his own Butcher shop with all the legs of lamb his has won in the weekly darts tournament, It was Sean’s first competitive darts game in 25 years. The weekly Darts Doubles Tournament will continue this Friday night, Names to be in for the draw at 10.15 p.m. The Winners will receive a Leg of Lamb each. C’ Mon on darts players Stop J.P’S winning streak.

KERRY HURLERS
The Kerry Senior hurlers continued their winning streak with a victory over Mayo in round 2 on Sunday afternoon at Austin Stack Park, Tralee on 0-15 to 2-05 The Crotta hurling was represented by Andrew Keane at Mid field on the victories side scoring a point from play.

TAEKWON-DO
On Saturday last 25th February, Members of the Pilsung School of Taekwon-Do Kilflynn took their first testing. The Examiners on the day were Mr Michael Murphy and Adrian O’ Mahoney both International Examiners and Instructors also attending were Students from Killahan National School, who now have Taekwon Do being taught at the school also present was Mr. Gerry Doyle Principal of Killahan National School. All those taking their test had to show all they have learnt over the past four months. A special mention must go to Father and Son Ray and Joseph Fahy who tested Together. Ray proved on the day that age is no Barrier in Taekwon-Do as he moved like Someone half his age, All Students were given their results on the day, No one was Disappointed as everyone passed with flying colours. There was a very large crowd in attendance at St. Coumbas Centre, Kilflynn to witness the unique event. Again Congratulations to all Concerned, Classes continue every Saturday from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. in St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn.

Kerry Mayor Toireasa Ferris attended the meeting of the Kilflynn Area Development Association on Wednesday night 8th February in St. Columbas Centre and announced the Kilflynn will receive €130,000 under the Village Renewal Scheme.

After Seven Months of hard training the Students of The Pilsung Taekwon Do School Kilflynn are about to take their first test which will take place in St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn on Saturday 25th February, from the young to the not so young will be put through their paces to demonstrate what they have learned so far. IRISH SCHOLARSHIP

CROTTA SOCIAL
Over 270 people attended The Crotta hurling club Annual Social. on Saturday Night 11th February in Ballyroe Heights Hotel, Tralee, After a wonderful meal, served with good humour and efficiency by Mark and his staff at Ballyroe Heights Hotel. Club Secretary James Sheehan did a terrific job as MC for the night and kept everything flowing, Guest of honour on the night was County Board Vice Chairman, Kilflynn native Gerald Whyte who Presented the victories Minor Hurling Panel with their County Minor B Championship Medals he also presented the victories Junior Squad with their County league Division 3 medals. Local P.P. Fr Jack Fitzgerald also addressing the large gathering. The recipient of this years Hall of Fame and the Matt Stack and P J Stack Memorial Trophy was Billy Stack of Crotta and Lixnaw. This trophy is in commemoration of Billy’s two late brothers and the award was presented to him on the night by Matt Lynch Tullig, who is a grandson of the late Matt Stack. Billy won Three County Senior Championship Medals with Crotta in 1947, 1950 and 1951,he also won a County Minor Championship Medal in 1947.Billy was a Kerry Senior Selector as well as serving as County Board delegate for The Crotta Club. He is a most deserving and worthy recipient of the 2005 Hall of Fame award. The Sam Hilliard Memorial Trophy which is awarded to The Club Person of the Year went to Gerry Lenihan,Leith in recognition for all his work as Chairman of The Crotta Finance Committee and also at underage level with Bord Na nOg was well received by all present who gave Gerry a thundering ovation when he received his Award from Fr. Jack Fitzgerald p.p Gerry has invested a lot of time and energy in the club on both as a administration and as trainer to Successful under age Teams and is known as Mr Hurling in the Community by all who have come under his wing. The Dick Parkinson Memorial Trophy which was awarded to The Club Hurler of The Year went to Senior Hurler Padraig Cronin, Irrebeg in recognition for his dedication and commitment on and off the field in 2005. Fr. Pat O’Donnell made the presentation to Padraig. to a rapturous reception from his many friends, supporters, club members and team mates who were present on the night. And after that it was down to dancing, and dancing and dancing thanks to the great music provided by Neily O’Connor followed by a Disco into the early hours of the morning.

ROAD
The Main road to Kilflynn Village from The Listowel\Tralee (N69) is in an "appalling condition" at present. It must be the worst road in Ireland entering a Village. The condition of this road has never been so bad. Damage to critical areas of vehicles that absorb the shocks caused by potholes and bad surfaces is now one of the two main reasons why cars are failing the roadworthiness test (N.C.T). It has starting to subside in parts, that people have started driving in the middle of the road which could cause an accident This busy road leading into Kilflynn Village will have to be resurfaced rather soon than later.

GREYHOUND SUCCESS
Heartiest Congratulations to Eileen O’Flaherty, Stacksmontain, Kilflynn who Bred the Greyhound “Mountain Guest” that won the Hotel Minella Oaks at National Coursing Meeting in Powerstown Park, Clonmel on Wednesday 1st February. Mountain Guest was previously owed by Eileen Flaherty, qualified at Kilsheelan Coursing Meeting and now is the property of prominent English gambler, Harry Findlay and his daugher Jake, and is trained by Denis O'Neill, in Skibbereen,Co Cork.

NEW LIGHTS
It was nice to see the Seven New Street lights from Kilflynn village to the National School finally switch on Monday night 6th February.

The Four numbers drawn out of the drum by the Independent observer Peter Hill, Laccamore, Kilflynn in The Crotta hurling club lotto Draw on Monday night 6th February in Parker’s Pub were: 5, 9, 19 & 21. There were no winners of the €3,100 Jackpot. The lucky dip winners each receive €35: Michael Shanahan, Keel, Lixnaw Frank O’Donoghue, Garrynagore, Lixnaw and Kay Keane, Glenballyma.Kilflynn The Next draw will take place in Cronin’s Bar on Monday 13th February with a € 3,200 Jackpot. DARTS
The weekly Darts Doubles Tournament winners on Saturday night last at Parker’s lounge Bar, were Phil Morris and J.P Twomey who defeated Brendan Hannon and Mike Fealy in the final. The weekly Darts Doubles Tournament will continue this Friday night, Names to be in for the draw at 10.15 p.m. The Winners will receive a Leg of Lamb each.

KERRY HURLERS
The Kerry Senior hurlers interest in this year’s Waterford Crystal Shield Hurling Tournament, came to an end at Austin Stack’s Park, Tralee on Sunday 5th February, when they were well defeated by U.C.C on 5-20 to 0-11 scoreline The Crotta hurling club was represented by Andrew Keane at Mid field. Kerry will commence their National league campaign away to London.

IRISH SCHOLARSHIP
The G.A.A School Scholarship to An Gaeltacht is available again this year in Ballyferriter. This is a great opportunity for any students to improve their Irish language in the Gaeltacht. There are two available dates from June 28th to July 20th and July 21st to August 12th .Anyone interested in availing of this scholarship should contact Club Secretary James Sheehan, Club Chairman Paud Twomey or any club officers before 14th February.
