The Annual General Meeting of the Crotta Bord Na Nog club takes place this Thursday night, 1st March. In the Clubrooms, Dromakee, Kilflynn. The meeting has a starting time of 8.30 p.m. (sharp). All are welcome to attend.

ACTIVE RETIRED

Sixteen Darts players participated in, the weekly Darts Double Tournament in Parker’s Lounge Bar, on Saturday 24th February. In the Final, Declan Falvey and Paddy Weir defeated Mike Lyne and Paud Twomey. The winners received a DVD Player each

The Draw for the 6th Annual Maurice Egan Memorial Darts Tournament., will take place on Wednesday 28th February in Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn, at 8.00 p.m. Darren Egan son of the late Maurice will make the draw. The Popular Tournament carries a Total of Prizes €800 plus trophies, and attracts entries from the County and beyond. There will be also disco on the night of draw from 6p.m.to 8.00 p.m.

CONDON’S SHOP

Just as I go to print, A well-known Landmark in the village of Kilflynn has been knocked to the ground with the demolition of Condon’s Shop, on Monday Morning, 19th February, A new Shop will replace the demolished premises. Locals are sad to see the Shop being knocked to the ground and its demolition marks the end of an era in the area.

The Crotta Hurling Coista Na Nog Church gate collection will be taken up at masses in St. Mary’s Church, Kilflynn this week end.

KILFLYNN INDOOR MARKET
A large crowed attended The Kilflynn indoor Market at St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn on Sunday 18th February Home Baking, Specialty Breads, Organically Fed Chickens, Porter Cakes, Soda Bread, Plants and Spices, Pate, Greetings Cards, Pictures etc. were on sale on the day. There will be another Market at St. Columbas in March.

FOOTBALL FINAL
Well done Paul and Brendan Culhane and Mikie Barry, members of the Crotta hurling club who were members of The University of Aberdeen Gaelic Football Club who contested the finals of the British University Football Championships in London last weekend. Aberdeen made their exit from the competition at the semi final stage.

KERRY HURLERS
The Kerry Senior hurlers got their Allianz National League Division 2 B campaign off to a good start, when they had a victory over the 2005 Nicky Rackard Champions London at Austin Stacks on Sunday last on 3-10 to 1-13 Scoreline. Andrew Keane represented the Crotta hurling back on the victorious team, Matt Lynch was on the sub bench.

DEATH
The Death took place in Tottenham, England on Sunday 11th February of Tom McElligott, Tottenham and late of Lower Tullig, Kilflynn. Tom is survived by his wife Mary, his Daughters, Kathleen, Noreen and Annette, his Son Stephen, his Sisters Phil And Anne, his Brothers Jimmy (England), Denny, and Dick (Lower Tullig Kilflynn) relatives and friends in Ireland and England to whom the community offer our sincere sympathy. The late Tom will be buried in England on Monday 26th February.

WEDDING BELLS
THE marriage took place on Saturday, 27th February at St Mary’s Church, Kilflynn, of Fiona Shanahan, daughter of Anita and Dan Shanahan, Tullig, Kilflynn and Andrew Costello, son of Late Eugene and Mary Costello, Kilgulban, Ardfert.
Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Fr. Pat O’Donnell, Fr.Jack Fitzgerald and Fr Placid Nolan. Bridesmaids were Maria Shanahan, Virginia Costello, Best man was Maurice Costello and the groomsman was William Costello, brothers of the groom. Flower girls were Jennifer Leonard and Shauna Cronin. Page Boy: Eoin Costello. Music was by the Illumina. Reception was held at The Ballyroe Heights Hotel, Tralee.
Wishing Fiona and Andrew a long and happy life together.

Abbeydorney Golf Society held there AGM on Monday 12th Feb in McElligotts Lounge, Abbeydorney. The following officers were elected Captain Dan O’Connor, President Mike Fuller, Vice-Captain Mundy Hayes, Secretary/Treasurer Tom McNeice, PRO Frank O’Donovan. The first outing of the year was held at Dooks Golf Club on Saturday last with 40 golfers participating on a beautiful sunny day. The presentation of prizes for this outing will take place at the next outing in Ceann Sibeal on Mar 31st.

Removal took place from Stack's Funeral Home, Lixnaw on Saturday evening to St. Michael's Church, Lixnaw. Burial after 11.15am Mass on Sunday, in Kilfeighney Cemetery.
The death occurred of Catherine (Kitty) QUILTER (nee Carroll) of Ballyconnell, Kilflynn, Co. Kerry on Sunday 10th December, 2006, in her ninety-fifth year, at Our Lady of Fatima Home, Oakpark, Tralee. Reposing on, Tuesday evening, in Fatima Chapel from 5pm to 7pm. Abbeydorney Golf Society will hold its first singles outing for 2007 at Dooks Golf Club Glenbeigh on Saturday next the 17th Feb. The tee is booked between 10:10am and 11:30am. Membership for the year is now payable. This will be our first outing under our new Captain Dan O’Connor and we wish all the best for the year. The outing is being kindly sponsored by Mirror Ireland.

The Ballyroe Heights Hotel, Tralee will host Crotta hurling club Annual Social on Saturday 17th February. Music on the night will be provided by Martin Williams and followed by Disco with Big Jim.The club’s hall of fame award will be presented. The Club Hurler of The Year will receive the Dick Parkinson Memorial Trophy, and The Sam Hilliard Memorial Trophy will be presented to The Club Person of The Year.
This year marks the first year that their will be an award for the under 18 player of the year. The recipient will receive the Monty McElligott Memorial award donated by the McElligott family.

TIGERS IN KILFLYNN N.S
On Friday 2nd February some of the victorious Tralee Tigers Basketball players visited Kilflynn National School with the National Cup, fresh from their Superleague National cup victory over U.C.C Demons at National Basketball Area, Tallaght, Dublin.
Star performers, Dave Fanning, Micheal Quirke, James Mooney, Wilder Auguste, Team captain Roscoe Patterson and his son Bradon, received a warm welcome from the Children and the Teachers.
Congratulations and Thanks to Tralee Tigers on bringing the Cup to the School and to Pop Lynch of Tralee Tigers Basketball club and Aiden Sheehan, Castlecove, Kilflynn for organizing the special event.

MIZUKAI JUDO CLUB
Congratulations to Fiona Walz and Megan Fahy of the Lixnaw Judo Club who competed in the All Ireland Finals on Sunday 4th February, in Dublin.
Fiona Won the Gold Medal in the under 27kg group.
Megan won the Bronze in the under 30kg.
Both girls fought extremely well. We are very proud of you and your achievements. Thanks to coaches Nora Quinlan and Karen Gearon for all their hard work at the club. Lixnaw Judo Club trains on Monday Evening at 6.40 p.m. in the Nano Nagle School, Lixnaw. New members always welcome.

The Crotta Hurling Club Annual General Meeting was held in their clubrooms, Dromakee, Kilflynn on Friday night, 26th January 2007. There was a good attendance present.
Paud Twomey Chairman presided. The games and club events of the past year were reviewed, with Club Secretary James Sheehan, and Club Treasurer, Declan Falvey both presented very detailed accounts.
Bord Na Og Chairman Sonny Egan gave an excellent detailed report of all the Bord Na Og Club's Activities during 2006.

TAEKWON-DO
All Students are Training hard for their next colour Belt grading to be held in March at St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn. Both Instructors would like to welcome the New Students to the school, Karl Shanahan, Tullig and father and daughter Gerard and Jennifer Leonard, Ballyconnell Heights. Jennifer is showing already that she is every bit as tough as the boys.
It is hoped that sometime in 2007 a Taekwon-Do master will visit Kilflynn Taekwon-Do School to Instruct a class, So watch this notes as everyone will be welcome to attend and watch this amazing Martial Art in full flow.

Fifty two teams participated in the 3rd Annual Table Quiz in aid of Fr Pat O’Donnell Cancer Support Fund on Thursday night 28th December.
Quizmaster On the night was John O’ Flaherty who had the brain cells working on over drive, with 8 rounds of 10 questions.
The overall winners got 77 questions out of 80 right.
First prizes went to Murty Bunyan, Bernie Shanahan, Rachel Shanahan and Tom Hayes, Second Prizes went to Tom Keane, Tim Lynch, Stuart Carlton and Helen Carlton.
And Third Prizes went to Michael Barry, Pat Culhane, Mikie Barry and Tom O’Connell. The real winners were the cancer patients and their families as 6,674 euros were raised. Fr. Pat O’Donnell would like to express his appreciation and gratitude to all the people who supported the recent table quiz at Herbert's bar and Parker's bar in aid of Cancer Support and the people who contributed most generously to the raffle on the night and big thank you to all the people who donated so many excellent spot prizes, to Herbert’s and Parker’s for hosting the event and sponsoring the prizes.
Thanks to Quiz master John O’Flaherty for setting the questions, to Mc Elligott’s Sound for organising the sound between the two pubs, and finally to the 52 teams of four who participated for this worthy cause.

GOLF
Abbeydorney Golf Society travelled to Castlegregory Golf Club on Saturday last for our first outing of the year. On a summer like day, the course was playing beautifully with the fairways and greens in excellent shape.
A total of 42 golfers played and a very enjoyable time was had by all with some excellent scoring and good all round banter. The presentation was held in the Herbert’s Bar Kilflynn who kindly sponsored the outing.
Our thanks to Pat and Joan Herbert and their family for their sponsorship and hospitality. Our next outing will take place on the 17th February at Dooks Golf Club Glenbeigh tee-time 10:10 – 11:30.

WEIR AND NOLAN WINS DVD PLAYERS
Twenty Darts players participated in, The weekly Darts Double Tournament in Parker’s Lounge, on Saturday 3rd February.
In the Final, Paddy Weir and Shane Nolan defeated Micheal O’Sullivan and Padraig O’Leary. The winners received a DVD Player each. Mike Fealy subbed Shane in the Semi Final and in the Final.
The weekly Darts Doubles Tournament will continue this Saturday night 10th February at 10.30 p.m. The winners will receive DVD Players. Names MUST be in for 10.15 p.m. NO Names after this Time. First game of the Tournament must start at 10.30p.m. Sharp.

LOTTO RESULTS
Parker’s Bar, Kilflynn was the venue for The Crotta hurling club lotto draw on Monday night 5th February.
The four numbers picked out of the drum by Independent Observer Betty Falvey, Garrynagore, were: 1 , 8 , 20 & 27. There were no winners of the €5,600 Jackpot.
