KILFLYNN N.S
The "One Million Trees in One Day" initiative took place recently and St. Teresa's pupils in Kilflynn did not want to miss the opportunity to do it's part! This initiative is a project of The Forestry Foundation who aim to plant a million young, native trees across Ireland in a 24 hour period. These trees will grow for many years providing valuable resources, beneficial ecosystem services and a lasting legacy for future generations.
Niamh Ni Dhuill and Pat Hussey, from Transition Kerry, guided and assisted the children from 6th Class, in St. Teresa's National School, in planting native trees in their school garden. They planted three Alder trees and three Birch trees. The children learned the correct method for tree planting, the trees best suited to the garden soil and tips for after care.
As the old Chinese proverb says...The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now.
