sonny egan scor champion 2018
Sonny Egan, representing The Crotta Hurling Club and The North Kerry Hurling Board retained his County Senior Scor Recitation title and Sonny also captured the County Scor Solo Singing title at the County Senior Scor Finals on Saturday evening 24th February, in the Mhuire Gan Small, Primary School Castleisland. Crotta O Neill’s Club were awarded the overall Club of the night — a unique treble for the Crotta club.

SONNY EGAN DOUBLE At SCÓR
SONNY EGAN scored a super double success representing his Club, Crotta Hurling Club and the North Kerry Hurling Board at the Kerry Senior Scór finals held in in Castleisland at the weekend.
The cream of Kerry’s talent was very much on display at the Estuary Print and Trophies, Ballylongford, Sponsored County Senior Scor Finals held in the Mhuire Gan Small, Primary School Castleisland on Saturday evening 24th February, where another wonderful evening of entertainment was thoroughly enjoyed by the good sized attendance who showed their appreciation of all Clubs. Bean a Ti was Suzanne No Laoire, Secretary of Coiste Scor Chiarrai who kept everything running smoothly.
PRIDE of place this week must go to Sonny Egan who retained his County Senior Scor Recitation title and Sonny also captured the County Scor Solo Singing title. — a unique double for the Crotta club.
Sonny has been an avid supporter of Scór for many years and frequently travels far to support club participants in this event so it was to tremendous applause and excitement, who were present to witnessed Sonny take to the stage for his cup and medal presentation. Sonny will now go forward to the Munster final in the Community Centre, Cappamore, County Limerick on Saturday 10th March at 6.00p.m. It was an extra special occasion at the end of the competition for the Crotta O Neill’s Club when they were awarded the overall Club of the night which was presented to their Club Cultural Officer, Thomas Breen. Sonny was presented with his County medals by Christy Kileen, Oifigeach Cultura Chiarrai. It was a glory night for Crotta. Many Congratulations to Crotta stalwart Sonny Egan who only qualified for the County Scor Finals on Friday Night 23rd February at the North Kerry Hurling Board Scor competitions held in Abbeydorney Community Hall. Great Credit to newly appointed Crotta Scor officer Thomas Breen for his great guidance and organising of the Crotta competitors, and helping bring back another two County Senior Scor titles to the club.

PARISH MISSION
John Pridmore ex-gangster and bestselling author of book ‘From Gangland to Promised Land’ will be giving a Mission in Kilflynn  from Monday 9th to Wednesday 11th April and in Abbeydorney from Thursday 12th to Saturday 14th April. He will speak at the Masses the weekend just before the Mission. Each night has a different theme with talks, prayer, music and a lot more. We really encourage you to come to all three nights to get the most out of the Mission.

KERRY SENIOR HURLERS
The Kerry Senior Hurlers secured their third win in the Allianz Hurling League Division 2A after a more than comprehensive sixteen point win over Meath on Sunday afternoon 25th February in Austin Stack Park, Tralee, On the Final score Kerry 3-19 Meath 1-9
Kerry now sit second in their table behind Westmeath in first and ahead by points difference over Carlow who sit in third. There was a Seven Crotta  representatives on the Kerry Panel with Sean Weir (corner back) , Tomas O’Connor (0-01) (wing back) and Jordan Conway (Corner Forward) Barry Mahony Made his Kerry Senior debut , with Paudie Quille also making his Senior National League debut. Well Done lads, First of many. Adam O’Sullivan and Shane Nolan were also members of the panel. Kerry are away this Sunday to Westmeath.

RYAN CUP SEMI FINAL

Commiserations  to Crotta Senior Hurlers Adam O’Sullivan and Shane Nolan and their Institute of Technology Tralee Hurlers who were defeated by Maynooth University in the the Ryan Cup Senior Hurling championship semi final on Friday 23rd February at The Mallow GAA Sports Complex  by 1-11 to 2-10
The Crotta Hurling Club was represented on ITT team by Adam O'Sullivan in Goals and by  Shane Nolan who captained the side and was Tralee’s chief scorer scoring 0-08.

NORTH KERRY HARRIERS HUNT CLUB
A super day was had in Kilflynn on Sunday 4th February, in ideal weather conditions! A massive thank you to the organisers for making the day possible. & of course the fabulous hospitality provided by Parkers Bar which filled our hungry bellies! I hope everyone enjoyed their day out, The organisers would like to take this opportunity to extend sincere thanks to all the landowners for their kind permission for the use of their lands, without which such an event could not take place.

North Kerry Hurling Board Scor na bPaisti was held on Friday night 23rd February in Abbeydorney Community Centre. Congratulations to The Crotta Scor na bpaisi Music group of Conor Brennan, Cillian Hussey, Rosin Abeyta and Thomas Breen who won the instrumental music title, going on to complete in the County semi finals in April, Crotta solo singer Eoin Griffin gave a wonderful performance in the solo singing competition,. Victory for Crotta with Sonny Egan capturing the senior scór  solo singing and resitation titles . The club acknowledges the commitment and time all participants took to prepare for this event and thank them sincerely for representing the club, also to their mentors of Daragh and Conor Breen.  Great Credit to newly appointed Crotta Scor officer Thomas Breen for his great guidance and organising of the Crotta competitors.

DART WINNERS
The winners of the darts in Parker's Snug  Bar on Saturday 24th February were Tim O'Halloran  and J.P Twomey  who defeated  Adrian McHugh
and John Leahy in the Final. The winners  received a leg of lamb each. The next darts doubles tournament takes place on Saturday 3rd March at 10.30p.m in Parker's Lounge Bar.

KERRY U-15 AND U-16 HURLERS
The Crotta Hurling club was were well represented on the Kerry U15 & U16 Hurling Squads who travelled to the Kildare GAA Centre of Excellence at Hawkfield in Newbridge on 18th February to face their Lilywhite counterparts. Crotta were represented on the U16 panel by Tomas Dillon (Captain), Tadgh McKenna and Eoin Reilhan and on the U15 panel by Sean McGrath, Cillian Baker, Cian Hickey, Gavin Parker and Niall Heaton, Despite the poor weather conditions, spectators were treated to two entertaining contests. Kildare provided stiff opposition but the boys of the Kingdom prevailed in both games. Both teams then attended the Kildare v Kerry  Allianz National Hurling League game at St. Conleth's Park in Newbridge Congratulations and Well done to both teams and their mentors.

COUNTY SCOR FINALS
The “Estuary,Print and Trophies, Ballylongford” Sponsored County Finals of Scor Sinsear will be held in the Mhuire Gan Smal, Presentation Primary School Castleisland on this Saturday 24th February commencing at 6pm where the District Boards from around the County will be striving to put their respective Clubs through to the next phase of the competition. Sonny Egan represents  the Crotta Hurling Club in the solo singing and recitation competitions .
Sonny captured the County title in the senior county scór recitation competition last year.
All the winners of each catagory will go forward to the Munster Semi Finals to be held in Cappamore, County Limerick on Saturday March 3rd where a place in the Munster Finals await the qualifiers here a week later at the same venue.

KERRY HURLERS
The Senior Hurlers travelled to Newbridge  to play Kildare in round three of the Allianz Hurling League and came away with a comfortable 1-23 to 0-10 victory. There was a strong Crotta  representatives on the Kerry Panel with Sean Weir (corner back) , Tomas O’Connor (wing back) and Shane Nolan ( centre-forward ) Jordan Conway ( came on as a  sub ), Adam O’Sullivan (sub-goalie), Barry Mahony and Paudie Quille. This coming Sunday 24th February, Kerry are at home to Meath in Austin Stack Park, throw in time 12-30pm. Good luck to the team and management.

MIKE LEEN RETIRES
The Staff and pupils of St. Treasa’s National School, Kilflynn, wished farewell last Wednesday 7th February to their friend Mike Leen, who retired as caretaker of the school after nearly 20 years of faithful service. 
Mike was presented with farewell cards from the children as well as a beautiful cake to mark the occasion.  Mike arrived in the school hall where he received a ovation from the pupils and staff. We wish Mike well who has been such an integral part of school life over the years. Graham Harris  will take over as caretaker, we  wish Graham best of luck.

COLLEGE HURLING
Congratulations to the Institute of Technology Tralee Hurlers who defeated Athlone IT by 3-11 to 3-08 in John Mitchells Gaa Grounds the Ryan Cup Senior Hurling championship on Thursday 8th February. The Crotta Hurling Club was represented on ITT team by Adam O'Sullivan in Goals and by  Shane Nolan who captained the side and was Tralee’s chief scorer .Well done lads.
On Monday night 12th February  in Stradbally GAA pitch, Laois  Ryan Cup Senior Hurling Championship Play-off Result: IT Tralee 2-11 Ulster University 1-12. IT Tralee now qualify top of their group and will play NUI Maynooth in the semi-final. An injury time goal from Ronan Monahan sealed the win for IT Tralee. Well done lads especially the Crotta player's Adam O'Sullivan in Goals and by Shane Nolan on the Tralee victories side

CROTTA SOCIAL
The Crotta O’Neills Hurling Club Social took place in the Ballyroe Heights on Friday Night 2nd February, and it was an occasion to celebrate and remember the achievements of the 2017.
160 people enjoyed a wonderful Four-course meal., served with good humor and efficiency by the staff at Ballyroe Heights Hotel. Club Club Chairman Paddy Weir did a terrific job as MC for the night and kept everything flowing,
Invited guests and speakers the night were County Board Hurling Officer Paudie Dineen and his wife Rita, Joe Walsh, North Kerry Hurling Board Chairman, and Kerry Senior Hurling Manager Fintan O'Connor 
The successful minor hurling panel that claimed back to back county Championship titles for the club were presented with their County Championship medals. Minor Selector Paul O’Donoghue introduced each member of the panel who were presented with their medals by Kerry Senior Hurling Manager Fintan O'Connor  As usual the club’s hall of fame award (Matt Stack and P J Stack Memorial Trophy) recipients were Frank O'Donoghue and Thomas Egan  for their immense contribution to the Crotta Hurling Club. The Club Hurler of The Year Paudie Quille received the Dick Parkinson Memorial Trophy, and The Sam Hilliard Memorial Trophy was  presented to The Club Person of The Year Paul Shanahan.   The minor hurler of the year  Dominic Nolan received The Monty McElligott Memorial award and This year marks the first year that their will be an award for the intermediate player of the year. The recipient Keith Hanafin received the Maurice Egan Memorial award also This year marks the first year that their will be an award for the U-21  player of the year. The recipient Eamon Shanahan  received the Diarmuid Galvin Memorial award. Congratulations to very wordy recipients .
2017 proved a very successful year on the playing fields with the club collecting a variety of titles at Divisional and County level.
Our U10 had great success in 2017 at blitz’s in Ballyduff and Caherslee and Limerick. Our U12s took part in the U12 Hurling Activity Day in Croke Park in April.
Our U13 players captured The North Kerry Hurling Board Title for the 3rd year in row with a 0-09 To 0-08 victory over a gallant Abbeydorney. 
Our U14 team played some great hurling getting to the county Feile B  Final this year. They also reached the North Kerry Hurling Board U14 B Championship Final. 
Our U15 hurlers won the North Kerry Hurling B Championship
What a year it has been for our u16 team. They reached 3 finals this year. History was made on Sunday 13th August when Crotta captured the County U16 Championship Div 1 title for the first time ever in the club. Later in the year they also won the North Kerry A championship.
Our U-21 Hurlers were defeated by Causeway on1-12  to 0-10 scoreline in Acorn Life Under 21 Hurling Championship Final after extra time.
The winners of the raffle on the Night were Rory Mahony, Ballrehan, Lixnaw (Crotta Family Membership) Paddy Murnane, Crotta, Kilflynn, (Crotta Family Membership) Louise Guiney, The Waterfall, Kilflynn (Crotta Jersey) and Richard Nolan, The Waterfall, Kilflynn (Crotta  half-zip Top) A memorable night concluded with the crowd hugely entertained by the music provided from DJ Big Jim who provided a wonderful atmosphere which was greatly received . The club would like to thank the management and staff of the hotel for all their help and co-operation A special word of thanks must go to the organizers of this fantastic celebration which was definitely a great start to 2018 for both the club and the community. Thanks also to those who donated spot prizes and supported the raffle on the night.

COLLEGE HURLING
Congratulations to the Institute of Technology Tralee Hurlers who travelled to the CIT GAA pitch  on Thursday  evening 1st February  to play Cork College of Further Education in round 2 of the Ryan Cup Senior Hurling championship & emerged with a 7-23 to 1-9 victory. 
Crotta Gaa Hurling Club was represented on ITT team by Adam O'Sullivan in Goals and by 
Shane Nolan who captained the side and scored 1-11. Well done lads. IT Tralee  will now play Athlone IT next Thursday in a must win game for them.

brownies quiz 2018
The Kilflynn Abbeydorney Shannow Brownies quiz team won the regional final on Saturday 3rd February in Cóbh, Co Cork. The team members were, Isobel O Sullivan, Ciara O Brien, Emily O Donoghue, Emma Buckley and Sarah Healy. The leader of the Brownies that brought them to victory is Maria O Sullivan. The all Ireland final will be held in Dublin on 28th April.

VICTORY FOR SHANNOW BROWNIES QUIZ TEAM
The Kilflynn Abbeydorney Shannow Brownies quiz team won the regional final on Saturday 3rd February  in Cóbh, Co Cork. The team members were, Isobel O Sullivan, Ciara O Brien, Emily O Donoghue, Emma Buckley and Sarah Healy. The leader of the Brownies that brought them to victory is Maria O Sullivan. The All-Ireland final will be held in Dublin on 28th April. We wish the girl's the best of Luck in the final.

KERRY SENIOR HURLERS
Sean Weir, Shane Nolan, Jordan Conway and Adam O’Sullivan were part of the Kerry team that was defeated by Carlow in Round 2 of the Allianz Hurling League on Sunday 4th February in Austin Stacks Park. Round 3 will take place on Sunday, Feb 18th -v- Kildare in Newbridge @ 2pm.

WELLBEING AND AWARNESS TALK
The Crotta Hurling Club will be hosting a wellbeing and awarness talk on mental health, drug addiction and disabilities on Friday 9thFebruary at 7:30pm to 8.30p.m in Columbas Centre, Kilflynn. This is for age 15 up and open to all in the community. Aims to help people see the signs and how to use the available services to help yourself and others.
Talks will short to give you enough information to know there is help available. Parents are encouraged to attend. Speakers on the Night : Jimmy Mulligan, Jigsaw Intervention, Supports, Networking.

DART WINNERS
The winners of the darts in Parker's Lounge  Bar on Saturday 3rd February were Paddy Weir and J.P Twomey  who defeated Phil Morris and Tim O'Halloran in the Final. The winners  received a leg of lamb each. The next darts doubles tournament takes place on Saturday 10th February at 10.30p.m in Parker's Lounge Bar.

CROTTA LOTTO RESULTS
The numbers drawn out of the drum by the Independent observer, Mike Parker, Kilflynn on Monday 5th February in Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn were 2,12,19 and 24. There was No winner of €4,400 Jackpot. The following won €35 in the lucky dip draw: Tom Quinlan, Keel, Lixnaw, Marie Egan, Dromakee, Kilflynn and Margaret Quille, Glenoe, Listowel.
