DOG FOULING PROBLEM IN  KILFLYNN
There has been a number of complaints again about a huge problem with dog fouling in Kilflynn  village and it’s high time for irresponsible dog owners to act responsibly and do all within their power to ensure their pets are not causing a nuisance and a health hazard. Dog fouling is one of the most common and unpleasant types of ‘litter’. It’s an eyesore, it’s downright disgusting and dangerous. A number of people have reported dog fouling in public places throughout the village over the last the Few weeks, including , The public footpaths particularly from the village to St Teresa's National School  and Church Yard and the Green Road  areas, driveways, and in front of local businesses in the village. It would seem that some dog owners deliberately let their pets out unattended at night or early in the morning so that they are less likely to be seen. It is a sickening job for residents, business people and their staff to have to clean-up this mess on a daily basis, and it’s a huge inconvenience for walkers, runners, cyclists and people using pushchairs.
Parents who take youngsters to St Teresa's National School say the amount of dog fouling on the path which leads to the  school gates is a disgrace.
Anyone who goes out with a dog and allows it to foul public spaces needs to be aware of the health hazards and the potential danger they are causing. Canines commonly carry a parasite worm called Toxocara whose eggs are passed out with the faeces into the soil and this can have deadly consequences for young children and pregnant mothers. So c’mon dog owners, “take the lead”, we have had enough!! Enjoy the use of public areas – and please don’t spoil the enjoyment of others who follow you.

THE LATE MIKE MURPHY:
Crotta and Killfynn lost one of it’s great Characters with the recent passing of Mike Murphy from Garrynagore, Lixnaw. Mike was a familiar and friendly figure around the locality, with a great interest in community affairs, popular personalities, Crotta Hurling, and the State of the Country in general. He loved to visit his local taverns for a pint of the black stuff and a jovial chat. Like many others supping companions he never really adjusted his lifestyle to accommodate The Smoking Ban. Mike worked for many years in the East End of London, first as a Riveter and later as a tradesman in a timber factory.
At one stage after returning home to North Kerry Mike served his time in the tailoring trade, and honed his skills in the company of Jim Lynch from Lixnaw and Tailor Sheehan from Abbeydorney, two legendary purveyors of the cloth. May they all rest peacefully in that outfitting shop in the Sky!
In late years Mike helped his aunt Liz and her husband Batt Tuomey on their farm in Garrynagore, Lixnaw and Garrybawn, Killfynn. Mike worked every where, and in his younger days was known for his jogging and shadow boxing, very often, both at the same time.
A sincere word of thanks to all the wonderful people who cared for Mike over the years, especially the dedicated staff at Oaklands Nursing Home, Listowel who tended Mike in peace and dignity thought his final days on this earth.
Deepest sympathy to his brother Tom Joe, his stepbrother Jimmy, their wives and families, his first cousin and lifelong pal, Gerald Byrnes, and all his relatives and friends. Ar dheis de go raibh a anam dilis
