KILFLYNN CANCER SUPPORT GROUP TABLE QUIZ
Since its inception in 2004 the Kilflynn Cancer Support Group’s annual table quiz has become an integral part of Christmas celebrations in Kilflynn. Christmas 2016 was no different with forty-one teams turning out on Wednesday 28th December to support the event where all contributions are donated to three local cancer charities, Recovery Haven, Kerry Hospice and Kerry Cancer Support. Members of those groups spoke on the night highlighting the services they offer and the importance that local fundraisers play in their existence. Special quests on the night were Daragh and Conor Breen, fresh from their appearance on the Late Late Toy Show. The boys provided musical entertainment on which some of the questions were based. On the night they played some trad pieces as well as Christmas classics such as Slade’s Merry Christmas Everybody. The night was not all about answering questions, as there were numerous raffles and auctions to entertain the crowd. Liam Howard of the Three Counties Pub in Chicago presented the organisers with a Kerry jersey signed, in Chicago, by Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh and members of the great Kerry team of the 70s and 80s. After some hectic bidding the jersey fell to local man, Aidan Shanahan. The organisers would like to thank everyone who supported the quiz with their presence on the night, or by donating items for the raffles and auctions. Thanks also to Parker’s Pub and Herbert’s Bar and to John McElligott for arranging the sound system. As ever quizmaster John O’Flaherty played a blinder with all enjoying the fun. Thanks to John.
After answering eighty questions two teams from Causeway could not be separated so decided to share the spoils. The members of one team were John Leen, Helen Twomey, Hannah Lyons and Kevin Lyons. Monty Leahy, Sarah Leahy, Fiona Casey and David Leen made up the other winning team. The event was a huge success with all involved looking forward to the fourteenth annual quiz next December. In excess of three thousand euro was raised on the night. The final figure will be published later when the money is given to the charities.
