JULY 2017

26th July 2017

BOXING
Kilflynn boxer, Aaron McElligott got Ireland off to the best possible start at the European Schoolboys Championships in Valcea, Romania last week. His victory over home favourite Samuel Florin-Cimpoesu was hailed by Paddy Gallagher’s coaching staff as a catalyst for Ireland’s boxers taking home at least ten bronze medals from the 2017 Championships - and matching the joint record breaking collection of the Irish teams at the European Schoolboy Championships at Anapa 2012, and Dublin 2013 in terms of quantity. Although Aaron’s participation ended with a defeat to Yahor Simakov of Belarus in the Quarter-finals, the most important thing was his overall contribution to Team Ireland, and that was par excellence. Aaron is a member of the Cashen Vale boxing club, Ballybunion Fantastic achievement to box at this level which will stand to Aaron. Well Done Aaron, all the best for the future.
