CROTTA U10 NEWS
Congratulations to our under 10 team who won the under 'A' blitz in Ardfert on Saturday 25th July and in doing so retained the John O' Gorman Memorial Trophy.
The teams in the 'A' blitz were Crotta, Causeway, Abbeydorney, Ardfert and Ballyduff.
Crotta played Causeway in the first match and won by 4 goals (Adam O'Sullivan, Barry Mahony and Donal Hunt getting the goals) to one goal.
Next up was Ballyduff who we beat 2-02 (Barry Mahony, Adam O'Sullivan chief scorers) to 0-00.
Ardfert were our next opponents and we beat them comfortably as they had a weakened team (Darragh O'Donoghue 2-02, Adam O'Sullivan 2-01, Sean Murnane 1-00). Abbeydorney was the last group game and in effect was a semi-final as Causeway won the rest of their matches. The ace in the pack for this match proved to be Sean Murnane. Sean is still under 8 and one for the future. He scored 1-02 and was fouled for a close in free. The final score Crotta 3-05 Abbeydorney 1-00.
We had qualified for the final and our opponents were Causeway (winners on the last months blitz in Abbeydorney).

Crotta Under 10 hurlers: North Kerry Under 10 Hurling Blitz Champions and their Mentors with the John O' Gorman Memorial Trophy after the North Kerry under 10 hurling Blitz in Ardfert on Saturday 25th July

Causeway won the toss and elected to play with the breeze. It was ten a side and Crotta lined out as follows:
Darragh O'Donoghue, Donal Hunt, Barry Mahony, John Quilter, Sean Galvin, Brian O'Connell (capt) Dominic Nolan, Adam O'Sullivan, Darrgh Behan and Sean Murnane.
It was a tense exciting affair and once again Crotta rose to the occasion. The hurling by both teams was good, hard but fair. Following a foul on Barry Mahony, Crotta opened the scoring when a long range free (taken by the player himself) against the breeze sailed between the posts. Sean Galvin was then fouled and Mahony again pointed the resultant long range free. Sean Galvin who was inspirational in the final then pointed from play. Another free from Barry Mahony which this time found its way to the net increased our lead.
Causeway then gained the upper hand and in all games pivotal moments decide games. The two minutes before half time proved to be the key period of this match. In this time Causeway had two goal chances. The first one was when Dan Goggin skilfully collected a ball, lost his marker and shot at goal. It produced an outstanding save from Crotta keeper Darragh O'Donoghue who deflected it around the post. Evan Murphy converted the 65. Moments later a free from Murphy was brilliantly saved by Barry Mahony for another 65 which again was converted.
Halftime Crotta 1-03 Causeway 0-02.

Victorious Crotta U-10 Captain Brian O'Connell pictured with the John O' Gorman Memorial Trophy after the North Kerry under 10 hurling Blitz in Ardfert on Saturday 25th July

In the second half Dominic Nolan got through a lot of work, was assisted by Jack McKenna (introduced at H/T) and the non stop tackling and running of Galvin kept the pressure on Causeway. Four more pointed frees, two by Adam O'Sullivan from difficult angles and one long range free by Barry Mahony closed out the match.
Tim Hanifin who was a very fair referee blew the final whistle to the delight of the Crotta followers.
All the panel played their part in retaining the trophy. Darragh O'Donghue was very safe in goals and made a few great saves especially that outstanding one in the final, John Quilter was an excellent man marker all through the day, Donal Hunt swept up loose ball and was used in both defence and attack. Dominic Nolan saved his best for the final and got through an amount of work. Brian O'Connell and Jack McKenna played their part and Sean Galvin was Crotta's man of the tournament, considering the lad started hurling in February. Adam O'Sullivan improved as the day went on and was to prove to be a key player in the final. He gained a lot of possession against the breeze and was radar like with his second half frees. Darragh Behan was a rock who did trojan work. Sean Murnane hassled and harried and won frees in the final. Aaron Murnane, Alex Lawlor, Pauric Shanahan, Padraig Hunt, Aodhan McKenna, Eamon Rohan, Danny Quilter and Darragh Murnane all played their part and will feature strongly in next years blitz. Afterwards Joe Walsh NK hurling board presented the trophy to captain Brian O'Connell amid joyous scenes.
Causeway mentors and players proved to be very sporting in defeat which is the way things should be. We would like to thank the Ardfert club for hosting the event and for looking after , players mentors and supporters.
A special word of thanks to Helen Hanafin co-ordinator, Siobhan Hussey and Josephine O'Riordan.

KILFLYNN VINTAGE RALLY
The village of Kilflynn is still trying to return to normality after what can only be described as one of busiest weekend ever seen in the village. The Wellington throwing competition on Friday evening June 20th, started the weekend off in style with huge crowds gathering to watch the fun event. 38 Gents and 28 ladies participated. Patrick Stack from Lixnaw took the 1st prize in the men’s competition, with a throw of 58 feet, John Leahy, Crotta was a close runner up and Wellie Throwing veteran Jerry Lenihan taking 3rd place. In the women’s competition Claire O’Sullivan, Knocknagoshel came 1st, with a throw of 39 feet, Brenda Brennan, Kilflynn took 2nd place and Kathleen McElligott, Kilflynn got 3rd place. All the prize winners received trophies sponsored by Parker’s Pub.
Eighty three tractors in total took part in this years annual Kilflynn Vintage Tractor Run. The village was a hive of activity on the Saturday evening 20th June. A grand entrance was made by Billy Mason on his Steam Engine which was a star attraction of the evening. A number of vintage cars also took part in a separate run on the evening. When the tractors and cars returned to the village at approximately 9pm they all headed for Parkers Pub to have a taste of the “Pig on Spit” which Tom Fitzmaurice put a lot of time and effort into. His hard work certainly paid off as there wasn’t a bone to be seen an hour after! A large crowd then gathered at the cross a while later to enjoy what could only be descried as a unique trad session on the bench at the crossroads.
On Sunday morning 21st June, the weather seemed far from ideal, but thankfully as the day progressed the weather improved. The wheels were set in motion for the return of the Kilflynn Vintage Rally after a lapse of seven years. Over 1,000 people flocked to the field on the day. People from all corners of the country attended as well 2 visitors from Mexico who came to see what it was all about! 112 tractors were on show in the field along with 67 vintage cars. As well as this there were motorbikes, bicycles, steam engine, stationary engines, thresher, hay making displays and a whole lot more. At 3pm the entire field came to a halt as a coach arrived to the field with the Kilflynn Choir. They were taken to the stage where they attracted a huge audience.

All set for the Kilflynn Vintage Tractor Run on Saturday 20th June

Kilflynn Vintage Club are deeply indebted to the local businesses for their financial support and are extremely grateful to all the locals who helped make this such an unforgettable and successful weekend. We wish to thank Parker’s pub for providing the mouth-watering Pig on the Spit, to both bars for providing great entertainment for the crowds of people who travelled to the village over the week end. They also wish to thank all the ladies who provided the teas, coffees, sandwiches, scones and a whole lot more for the exhibitors on the day. A big thank you is due to the Kilflynn Choir and all the local musicians who provided such great entertainment on the day. A field for car parking was kindly provided by the Costello family Kilflynn, this was greatly appreciated. Thanks to all the exhibitors who travelled from far and near and to all those who helped out in any way over the weekend.
This whole weekend could not have gone ahead without the kind generosity of the Fitzmaurice family Beenreigh Abbeydorney, who kindly contributed their land for the Vintage Rally as well as helping in many other ways.
The profits of the day will all be going to local charities, details if which will be announced later. We hope to see each and every one of you back again next year for what will be an even bigger and better event!
