CROTTA HURLER PREPARES FOR ALL-IRELAND POC FADA
The All-Ireland Poc Fada finals in hurling and camogie will be held on the Cooley Mountains on Saturday August 1st. This will be the 54th running of the event in this scenic setting in Co. Louth.
The unique GAA sporting and cultural contest promises to be a great day of sport. Holder Brendan Cummins will be attempting to win an unprecedented ninth Poc Fada title and Queen of the Mountain Patricia Jackman will be going for seven titles in a row in the senior camogie section.
For the first time there will be an U16 camogie event held.
There will be three former u16 winners competing in the senior final this year, Aaron Murphy, Limerick (2007) Noel Fallon, Roscommon (2009) Cillian Kiely, Offaly (2011/12).
Hall of Famer Denis Murphy (Cork) will be honoured on the day. Denis won the title in 1965. He won two Munster Senior hurling medals in 1966 and 1969 (as captain) and an All-Ireland senior hurling medal in 1966. Also in 1966 he was honoured with a Cú Chulainn Award (All-Star Award in the day). He was selected on the Munster Hurling Team of the Millennium at left corner back.
This competition will offer hurlers from Sligo, Tyrone, Roscommon, Laois, Offaly, Down, Louth, Limerick and Clare an opportunity to win an All-Ireland medal the very same as the medal that will be won in Croke Park in September.
At U16 level none of the strong counties won through at the provincial stages, with contestants from Kerry, Mayo, Derry and Laois overcoming their illustrious neighbours. Proceedings will get under way at 11.30am.

Crotta and Kerry Hurler Barry taking part in the Munster U-16 Poc Fada competition in the Galtee Mountains in Tipperary recently, Barry won the competition and will now go on to represent his County and Province in the Finals in the Cooley Mountains on Saturday 1st August. Best wishes Barry.

It will be a monumental occasion for young Crotta hurler Barry Mahony who will head to Louth after winning the Kerry GAA and Munster GAA Poc Fada events in recent weeks. Barry is a student of Causeway Comprehensive School and is also a member of the Kerry U16 hurling panel. We wish Barry all the best on Saturday when he will represent his club Crotta and his County in a Louth.

THE LATE EILEEN ROHAN
THE whole community and beyond was very saddened to hear of the untimely death of Eileen Rohan (Nee O’Sullivan) of Knockbrack, Kilflynn and formerly Keelnabrack, Glenbeigh. Eileen passed to her eternal reward on Tuesday 30th June, surrounded by her loving family at Kerry General Hospital, Tralee, having borne her illness with great fortitude and determination. Having been taken in the prime of life her death is a tremendous loss to her family, friends and the community. Eileen was a wonderful person who always looked on the bright side and radiated cheerfulness and happiness wherever she went.
She had a great fondness for the area and was actively involved in various aspects of the community life of the area, and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand at St Teresa's National School, at The Kilflynn Cancer Support Group Table Quiz and She was also active with the Crotta Hurling Club and The Kilflynn Chronicle magazine production.
She lay in repose at her residence on Thursday evening from 5pm to 9pm, where large crowds attended to pay their respects, arriving on Friday morning to St.Mary’s Church, Kilflynn for Requiem Mass, celebrated by Fr. Denis O'Mahony, afterwards she was laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery. Kilflynn.
A very large congregation attended at the Mass and members of the Church choir gave a wonderful contribution of liturgical music and song which will be long remembered by all those who had the privilege of being present.
Members of The Crotta Hurling Club and St. Senan's Football Club as well as friends from Macra na Feirme, neighbours, and the children from Kilflynn NS formed a large guard of honour, before and after mass.
The attendance at her residence on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and at the Requiem Mass and burial was very large which paid tribute to the popularity of the deceased and his family.
On behalf of the community, we extend our most heartfelt condolences to husband John, sons Eamonn, Sean and Diarmuid, daughter Ciara, her mother Bridie, sisters Breda and Angela, brother Connie, uncle Ted, father-in-law Johnny, mother-in-law Sarah, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and large circle of friends
May the sod rest gently on her soul and may she rest in peace.

RING OF KERRY CYCLE
Crotta Leisure Cyclists will have up to 40 cyclists from the locality taking part in the Annual Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle of 112 miles on next Saturday July 4th. This is the biggest charity cycle in the country with 9,500 cyclists taking part in this the 32nd year of the event. The local cyclists have been in serious training over the past few months and have been seen on various roads all around North Kerry. Whilst there are a lot of seasoned campaigners taking part there are quite a few newcomers from the area who will be attempting this arduous cycle for the first time and we wish them all the best of luck. They are collecting for a number of very worthy charities, so if you know a cyclist who is cycling the Ring of Kerry please sponsor them. They will have a post-race celebration and B.B.Q in Parkers bar on Saturday night.
