The local cyclists have been in serious training over the past few months and can be seen on various roads all around North Kerry. Crotta U13: Our U13 team qualified for the U13 County League Final with a 5-06 to 1-08 over near neighbours Lixnaw in Dromakee on Wednesday evening last. Playing with a lively wind to their backs Crotta took a bit to settle but once Cathal Kennelly ran at the Lixnaw defence and finished to the net they upped their performance. Cathal was to get another brace of goals and a scrambled effort that looked to be last touched by Adam O'Sullivan gave Crotta a half-time lead of 4-04 to 0-04. Lixnaw piled on the pressure after the break, backed by the breeze but the defence stood solid. Lixnaw outscored Crotta in the second half but never really threatened the half-time lead. Scorers: Cathal Kennelly(4-02) Adam O'Sullivan(1-01) Barry Mahony(0-02) Darragh Kennelly(0-01). Crotta now meet Ardfert in the Final which is a repeat of last years U12 final.

Entertainment for families was provided throughout the day with the highlight for children being the debut appearance of Tom Fitzmaurice’s “Blue Barrell Train”. The Kilflynn Choir took to the stage in the afternoon to a huge audience. Shannow Brownies have had a great year. Since returning last September it has been an action-packed year. The girls have earned many merit badges and taken part in many local, district and national activities.
2011 sees us celebrating the Centenary of Guiding in Ireland. The celebrations continue to the end of the year. Since January we have been to the Panto, tree-planting in Tralee Town Park for Thinking Day, St Patrick's Day Parades in Kilflynn and Tralee, Ecumenical Service in Tralee. On May 7th we travelled to Semple Stadium in Thurles for Bailiu, a fun-day out for all Guiding branches. We joined over 6,000 members for an absolutely brilliant day.
The girls entered a national competition to design a Thinking Day card and what an achievement it was when our own Emma Carmody received 2nd prize from the International Committee. Congratulations Emma.
We finished for the year last Thursday night and the girls earned their Hostess merit badge by serving tea and coffee and lots of nice cakes to their parents. We are marching in the Rose of Tralee Festival parade on August

CROTTA COISTE NA NOG
U-08 BLITZ: For the last three Friday evenings, Crotta Hurling club hosted an under 8 hurling blitz in the sports field, Dromakee. Teams travelled from Abbeydorney, Ardfert, Ballyduff, Ballyheigue, Causeway, Kilmoyley, Lixnaw, and Na Gaeil to compete in the blitz. Crotta fielded two teams and they competed very well. It was a great three weeks of hurling with over 130 youngsters playing. Thanks to all who helped on making it a great success.
U11 Our U11 team opened their campaign against a strong Abbeydorney team and came away empty handed. Abbeydorney lead by ten points at half time but a much improved second half by Crotta was good to see. Final score Abbeydorney 2-10 Crotta 2-03(Sean Murnane 2-01 Darragh O'Donoghue(0-01)Darragh Murnane(0-01).
The second match in the league was played last Wednesday evening in Dromakee at Crotta's opponents were Ballyduff. The lads from the Cashen got off to the perfect start with a goal inside the first minute and Crotta fought back to lead at half time following Ryan Murphy and Darragh O'Donoghue goals. Half time Crotta 2-05 Ballyduff 2-00. The second half ebbed and flowed and although at one stage Crotta only led by a point, they eventually ran out winners thanks to hat-trick hero Ryan Murphy and midfielder Darragh O'Donoghue's point scoring on a scoreline of Crotta 6-10 Ballyduff 4-00. Aodhan Behan scored the point of the match off his left as the full time whistle approached. Scorers: Ryan Murphy(3-00) Darragh O'Donoghue(1-06)Sean Murnane(1-01)Darragh Murnane(1-00)James Sheehan(0-02) Aodhan Behan(0-01).
U12 Our U12 teams finished there last league games with comfortable wins against Dr Crokes. The first team finished runners up in their group and the second team won their league so well done to all concerned.
U13 The U13 team were beaten in their first match against Ardfert on a scoreline of Ardfert 3-04 Crotta 1-04. Scorers Barry Mahony (0-03) Colin Browne (1-00) Paudie Dillon (0-01). The second match was against Lixnaw and resulted in a seven point win for Crotta. Scorers Darragh Kennelly (0-04) Barry Mahony(0-02)Adam O'Sullivan(0-01)Paudie Dillon(0-01)
Their third match was against a young Causeway team and was a comfortable victory. It was good to see the returning Cathal Kennelly have such a big influence on the result.
Crotta will now play Lixnaw in the semi final of this competition this evening(Wednesday June 15th) at 7.15pm in Dromakee.
U14 Our under U14 team were defeated by Dr Crokes in the last round of the County League in Killarney. Final score Dr Crokes 3-11 Crotta 4-04.

KERRY HURLERS WIN THE CHRISTY RING CUP
Pride of place this week goes to The Kerry senior hurlers who captured the Christy Ring Cup title in Croke Park on Saturday 4th June, with a magnificent thirteen point victory over Wicklow on a score of 2-21 to 2-8.
This was some compensation for last years heart breaking defeat to Westmeath in injury time and it was tears of joy this time around as opposed to the tears of heartbreak last time. The Crotta hurling club was once again well represented by Andrew Keane and Shane Nolan on the Kerry team, Andrew had a man of the match display at Conner back and Shane who scored 5 points playing at Conner/Wing forward, with some spectacular long range scores. The Kilflynn/Crotta areas were well represented at GAA headquarters on Saturday to witness Kerry capture their first Christy Ring Cup title. The victorious Kerry panel along with the Christy ring cup paid a visited to Parker’s Pub and Herbert’s Bar, Kilflynn on Monday night, on their way home from Listowel races.
