CROTTA ARE U-14 LEAGUE DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONS
Crotta U14's put back to back County League Division 1 titles with a three point win over a determined Causeway outfit last Saturday evening 14th June in Austin Stack Park.
It was a perfect evening for hurling and Crotta took the lead after two minutes when a goal bound strike from Darragh O'Donoghue deceived the Causeway keeper and went all the way to the net. Sean Murnane and Darragh O'Donoghue kept the scoreboard ticking over with points and then Aodhan McKenna struck for a second goal before half time. In that first half Causeway came up against a resolute Crotta defence although they managed to put 1-03 on the scoreboard.
Half time Crotta 2-06 Causeway 1-03.
Crotta struck for the first score of the second half with a nice point from play by Sean Murnane. Causeway piled on the pressure but the Crotta defence was solid. Causeway did manage to get within three points on two occasions but Crotta hit back with points to put four between the teams. Aodhan McKenna and Dan Goggin (Causeway) traded goals before the end to leave the final score Crotta 3-08 Causeway 2-08. Chairman of Kerry Coiste na nOg Tom Keane presented the County League Division 1 Trophy to Crotta Captain Pairic Shanahan amid joyful scenes.
It was a great team effort on the day. Goalkeeper Tadhg McKenna was very safe throughout and the full back line of Darragh Murnane Ryan McElligott and Michael Kennedy played exceptionally well. Jack Kevin McKenna kept his man scoreless while Eamonn Rohan and Declan O'Donoghue were outstanding in the half back line. Daniel ORourke was very energetic in midfield and his partner Pairic Shanahan played a Captains part in winning so much possession. He emerged from so many rucks with sliotar in hand. Aodhan McKenna put in a serious hours work and topped it with two goals. Denis Quille played his part although he had to come off at half time due to a knock. Darragh O'Donoghue was dangerous when he got possession and finished with 1-06(0-03 from frees).Sean Murnane got two lovely points from play and Tomas Dillon caused the Causeway rearguard plenty of problems. James Sheehan's best work came when he played a roving role around the middle of the field and was instrumental in setting up a lot of scores. Aodhan Behan who has been out for some time with injury also made a welcome return.
Two of the younger Players namely David O'Connell and Daniel Hunt have played their part in getting Crotta to the Final. Cillian Trant was on holidays and he too has played in the earlier rounds. Timmy Dillon was unable to play due to the passing of his Nan and Timmy also played in the League prior to Saturdays Final. Keith O'Connor is also a member of the Panel.
The Causeway Club can be proud of their team and Mentors who showed how to be gracious in defeat. Crotta Mentors on this team are Shane Herbert Tom O'Donoghue Aiden Sheehan and Paul O'Donoghue. The Mentors would like to thank all the Supporters who once again gave the Team so much support and also to Thank all Parents for their dedication and help. Next up is Feile and The Club looks forward to taking part in this great occasion. Finally we would like to express our sincere sympathy to the Dillon Family and especially to our Player Timmy on the passing of his Grandmother Christina. May she Rest in Peace.
