The Birth took place in Kerry General Hospital on Wednesday 22nd March of Hazel Parker, daughter of Geraldine and Mike Parker, Castletown, Kilflynn and a baby Sister for Gavin.

MASS TIMES

The weekly Darts Doubles Tournament winners on Saturday night last at Parker’s lounge Bar were Declan Falvey and Richard. Parkinson who defeated Mitchell Mc Aulifee and Graham Harris In the final. The winners of Legs of Lamb on Saturday 18th March were: Paud Twomey and Richard Parkinson defeated Mike Fealy and Micheal O’Sullivan in the final. The weekly Darts Doubles Tournament will continue this Saturday night, Names to be in for the draw at 10.15 p.m. The Winners will receive a Leg of Lamb each.

DRAMA GROUP
The Abbeydorney Drama Group will perform their play for the Senior Citizens on Sunday 2nd April at 3.30 p.m. in Community Hall, Abbeydorney.

ALL-IRELAND TITLE
Congratulations to the Kerry Vocational Schools hurling team who captured the All-Ireland Vocational Inter-County All-Ireland B Hurling title, with a impressive victory over Wexford in Clonmel on Wednesday 22nd March on the 2-18 to 2-07 final scoreline. Kerry led by 1-10 to 0-04 at half time. The Crotta Hurling club was well represented by Darren Twomey at wing back on the victories team. Well done lads

SYMPATHY
The community wishes to express sincere sympathy to Tom Thing, Kilflynn, on the recent death of his Mother, Mrs. Alice Thing, Canada, May she rest in peace.

KILFLYNN DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION
A Public Meeting to be held this Thursday night 23rd March at 9.00 p.m. In St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn. To highlight the appalling state of the roads in the village. It is hoped to have members of the Kerry County Council present on the night. The final draft plan of the Village Renewal for Kilflynn is also to be presented on the night, so anybody with any ideas or options on the said plan this is your last chance to make them known.

THE LATE TIM FITZMAURICE
The unexpected death occurred in England recently of Tim Fitzmaurice at the relatively young age of 57 years. Tim was the son of Tommy Fitzmaurice, Ballyrehan and the late Neille O’Brien of Keel, Lixnaw. Tim had spend in early years in Keel before emigrating to England in the Mid 60s, Tim Had build up a very successful Pub in Business in London in which he was actively involved at the time of his death. Tim along with his elder brother Tom was a member of the Crotta juvenile team which won the County Championship in 1959 under the guiding hand of Mike Kenny. He was also a member of the Crotta team which lost the County Minor Final to Lixnaw in 1963. Tim was a very talented young hurler who showed Tremendous potential in the early years. In the natural order of things, Tim should have been starting with Crotta Seniors in 60s 70s but the EBB and the flow of life dictated otherwise. Tim used enjoying nothing better in more recent times than to call on his uncle Patsy in Ballyrehan where they spend hours discussing times past. Tim’s father Tommy, now in his 80s and resident in New York, was a Stalwart half back on the Crotta team of the late 40s early 50s. Tommy won two County Senior Championship medals in 1950 and 1951 while he tasted defeated in the 1952 final. The older generation of Crotta supporters will have memories of Tommy playing his last hurling game in Stacks Field after which he left for New York on St. Patrick’s Day in 1954. Sincere Sympathy is extended to his wife and family, his father Tommy, his bother Tom, nephews, nieces, his relatives and circle of fiends. May re rest in peace

Congratulations to Jim Doody, (Junior), Upper Tullig, Kilflynn who won the Crotta hurling club weekly lotto Jackpot of €3,600 on Monday night 13th March at Cronin’s Bar, Kilflynn. Jim’s lucky numbers were drawn by Independent Observer Willie Keane, Kilflynn, and the winning numbers were 4,7,11 and 16. John Kelly sold the winning ticket.

DEATH
The death occurred of Mrs. Frances O’Neill (nee Parkinson), of Lissatagil, Gortalea and late of Tullig, Kilflynn on Sunday 5th March. We offer our deepest sympathy to her Daughters Frances and Iris, Son Alec and Daughter in law Hazel, grandchildren, and great granddaughter, relatives and friends.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE
The Kilflynn St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Fancy Dress Parade provided to be a success yet again despite the cold weather, with the Children donning the fancy dress regalia from Ronan O’ Gara to Leprechauns turning out, followed by vintage Tractors to two vehicles, the local Cycling club, led by the Man of the Day St. Patrick (Phil Morris). Celebrations continued in St. Coumbas Centre to the Traditional Music of Sonny Egan and Friends, While Compare Ray Fahy introduced the fancy dress participants to the watchful eye of Gerald Byrnes, Mary Geraldine Finnucane and Iona Mc Glain the Judges, all of whom had the arduous task of choosing winners in the various categories which were Under 5, 1st Prize: Peter Hicheliffe, 2nd Prize: Katie Keegan, and 3rd Prize went to Rory Barton. Under 7, 1st Prize Aisling O’Mahony, 2nd Prize: Aaron, Darragh and Sean Murrane. 3rd Prize: Sean O’Donoghue and Barry Mahony. Under 10 1st Prize: Muireann and Hannah Mc Kenna, 2nd Prize: Aisling Clarke, 3rd Prize: Megan Fahy, Sarah Morris and Jane Sheehan. Over 10 1st Prize: Cara Quinlan, Ciara Maunsell, 2nd Prize: Megan Weir, 3rd Prize went Garry Neenan. The winners and the runners up were presented with their trophies by Geraldine Parker (Sponsors). The village woven in Green, white and gold with flags (in very precarious positions) epitomised our National Day to perfection. Well done to all involved in making the day a great success.

DEATH
The death took of Mrs. Elizabeth (Lizze) Hannafin, (nee Barry), Leith East, Tralee at Riverside Nursing Home, Abbeydorney on Tuesday 7th March. Her remains were removed from Hogan’s Funeral Home to St John’s Church, Tralee on Thursday evening. Burial took place in New Rath Cemetery, Tralee after 10a.m.mass celebrated by Fr. Padraig Walsh on Friday 10th March. Lizze is predeceased by her husband Thomas, and is survived by her Daughter Margaret, Son Philip, Son-in-law Tim, Daughter-in-law Sheila, Grandchildren Sharon, Paul, Sandra, and Keith,, Brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends and Neighbours to whom we offer our sympathy. May she rest in peace.

GORSE FIRE
Gardai investigating a gorse fire in North Kerry on Sunday night have not ruled out foul play. Firemen estimate that up to 80 acres of forestry were destroyed by the fire in the Kilflynn area. Listowel Gardai and three units of the fire brigade from Listowel, Ballybunion and Tralee were called to the scene located about two miles from the Bog Village at around 7.30 p.m. It took several hours for the fire to be brought under control. No one was injured in the incident.

THE LATE NEELIE NEENAN
The death took place at Kerry General Hospital on Friday 10th March of Mrs. Ellen (Nellie) Neenan (nee Mc McCarthy), Crotta, Kilflynn and late of The Village Lixnaw. She was a very kind hearted caring person, and will be sadly missed by all the know her. Her remains were brought from her son Tommie’s residence in Crotta, Kilflynn to St. Mary’s Church, Kilflynn on Saturday evening, Burial took place in St. Mary’s Cemetery; Kilflynn after 12 noon mass celebrated by Fr. Jack Fitzgerald, and was assisted by Fr. Joseph Nolan and Fr. Pat O’Donnell and Br. Michael Neenan. She is survived by Her husband Brendan, Daughter Kay, Sons Michael and Tommie, Sisters Mary (England), Brigid (Lixnaw), Anne (Tralee) brothers Pat (Dublin) and Tom (Tralee) Son-in-law Paddy, Daughters-in-law Mary and Anne, Grandchildren Garry, Chloe, Aaron, Darragh and Sean, Brothers-in-law, Sisters-in -law, Nephews, Nieces, Relatives, Neighbours and Friends to whom we offer our sincere sympathy.

The Kerry Senior hurlers drew with The Christy Ring holders Westmeath at Mullingar on Saturday last in the National league div 2a on the final score of 2-09 each, despite trailing by 1-07 to 1-01 at the interval . The Crotta hurling was represented by Andrew Keane at wing forward scoreing a point from play.

JOHNNY WALSH
R.I.P The Death occurred on Monday 27th February of Johnny Walsh, Cappa, Kilflynn at Kerry General Hospital. For years the name of Johnny Walsh was widely known and respected in the Farming and Coursing world. Johnny along with his brother Donie introduced many quality dogs to the coursing scene one of their greatest achievements was when their popular classic winner Boston Point won the Irish Derby in 1977. Success was to follow again in 1987 with Boston Cha won the T.K Morris Stake also in Clonmel. Donie and Johnny have secured numerous Trial stakes and cups over the years. The Walsh’s dogs, which bore the famous ‘Boston’ prefix, brought honour and glory to Kerry from many national meetings. Coursing friends from all over the country came to pay their respects, joined Johnny’s friends at the removal of his remains from Stack’s Funeral Home, Lixnaw to St. Mary’s Church, Kilflynn on Tuesday evening 28th February. Fr. Jack Fitzgerald was the chief celebrant of the mass on the following day with Fr. Maurice Brick. Burial took place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kilflynn. Coursing Members, The I.F.A and his friends provided guards of honour. Johnny was a true gentleman and was a GAA supporter throughout his life at club and inter-county level. He followed the fortunes of the Kerry footballers and hurlers and shared in their successes. At club level he was a staunch supporter of the Crotta Hurling teams. Johnny is predeceased by his Son Donal, and is fondly remembered by his wife Kitty, Daughters, Mai, Carmel, and Claire, Sons Thomas and John, Brother Donie, Sister Nora, Grandchildren, Brothers in law, Sons in-law, Daughters in law, Nieces and Nephews, Relatives, Neighbours and large circle of friends to whom we offer our sincere sympathy. May he rest in peace.

GREYHOUND RACING
Denis. J Lynch, Clounafineela, Kilflynn, Greyhound’s continues their winning streak on Friday night last in Curraheen Park, Cork when his Greyhound “WANROK” won in a time of 29.01. The Greyhound is trained in Castleisland by John O Sullivan.

FOOTBALL FINAL
All Ireland Junior Football Champions Ardfert added the Phil Mc McCarthy Cup to their collection when they had a victory over Na Gael, in The St. Brendan’s Football Board Senior Football Championship Final 2005 under lights played at Austin Stack’s Park, Tralee on Saturday night, March 4th.

RALLY NIGHT OUT
Rally enthusiasts and their friends turned out in large numbers at Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn on Saturday night 4th March to celebrate with John Kearney, Ardfert and his navigator Denis O'Connell, Rae Kilflynn on their victory in BioTech Kerry Winter Rally, when they captured the Donal O’Flaherty Memorial Cup and the James O’Rourke Memorial Perpetual Cup (Circuit of Kerry Rally Highest Placed Kerry Motor Club Crew). Music on the night was provided by Moss Hannon.

OFFICERS MEETING
There will be a Meeting of the Crotta Hurling club officers on Thursday night 9th March in their Clubrooms, Dromakee at 8.30 p.m. Any outstanding Social money should be collected and handed in.

COMMUNITY GAMES
We would like to wish all the boys and Girls who are taking part in the County Art Competition next weekend the best of luck. This event takes place in the Presentation Convent Secondary and Primary Schools in Listowel at 1.00 p.m. However all competitors are advised to be at the venue 30 minutes before the competition begins, I would also like remind anyone taking part in the Swimming Competition to contact Patsy on 7135013 before Sunday 12th March.

CYCLING
The Graham Harris Cycling club will commence their weekly Cycling Outing on this Sunday 12th March from Crotta Cross at 2.00 p.m. All are welcome to come along on these enjoyable cycling trips. Bikes provided.

IRISH NIGHT
An Irish Night in aid of the Chernobyl Children’s Project will be held on Friday night 10th March at A Day In The Bog, Kilflynn at 9.00 p.m. Music by Sonny Egan and Friends. Tickets € 5. Please come and Support this worthy cause.

CROTTA LOTTO
The Four numbers drawn out of the drum by the Independent observer T.J O‘Sullivan, Kilflynn in The Crotta hurling club lotto draw on Monday night 6th February in Parker’s bar were: 14, 17, 22 & 23. There were no winners of the €3,500 Jackpot. The lucky dip winners each receive €35: Brendan Hannon, Kilflynn, Maureen Harris, Maugha, Lyre, and Sheila Dore, Lixnaw. The Next draw will take place in Cronin’s bar on Monday 13th March with a € 3,600 Jackpot. GOLF
Abbeydorney Golf Society travelled to Castlegregory Golf Club on Saturday last for our first outing of the year. The course was playing beautifully with the fairways and greens in excellent shape. Whilst frost delayed the start it was a beautiful day and a very enjoyable time was had by all with some excellent scoring. The presentation was held in the Sports Complex who kindly sponsored the outing. Our thanks to Bill and Kathy Maunsell for their hospitality. Our next outing will take place on 15th April at O’Mahony’s Point Killarney tee-time 1:00 – 2:20.
