RALLY NEWS
The 2009 Circuit of Kerry Rally on Sunday 29th March was a cliff hanger right to the last yards of the 8 special stages with Patrick Elliott converting a 6s deficit starting the final stage to a 6s win. This is 7 rallies in a row that Patrick Elliott and his co driver Paul Goodman have steered their Subaru to victory. Indeed, Patrick Elliott will soon be able to call this Kerry Rally his own as today’s victory makes it a hat trick of wins here. The rally was remarkable as well in that a 2 wheel drive car driven by Mike Quinn finished 3rd overall.
Local driver Thomas Fitzmaurice’s and his co driver Fionn Foley finished 8th over all and 4th in Group N should be enough to maintain his Group N lead in the National Championship.

CROTTA U-12 HURLERS
Our under 12 continued their good form with a win against Ardfert in Abbeydorney last Sunday evening. A steady drizzle was falling as the match got underway. Crotta seemed to settle first and following a foul on Jordan Conway, Darragh o'Regan opened the scoring from a free. The same player pointed two 65's to put Crotta into a three point lead.
Ardfert came more into the match and started to dominate midfield. They opened their account with a lovely point from play and followed this by scoring a well worked goal. It is safe to say but for some outstanding goalkeeping from Adam O'Sullivan, Ardfert would have the match wrapped up by half-time. The lads in green and red sensed danger and gradually came more in the match. They hit a purple patch and a goal and point from Jordan Conway ( his goal was sidefooted past the ardfert keeper ala Nicky English). Barry Mahony then found the net following good link play by Raymond Nolan & Sean O'Donoghue. Ace free taker Darragh O'Regan pointed a free and another 65 to leave the half time score Crotta 2-06 Ardfert 1-01. We knew this Ardfert team was not going to lie down and too quick second half goals and a point left the match on a knife edge. The match was end to end after this and it took a piledriver that went all the way to the net from Tom Quinlan to gain the upper hand again for Crotta. A Raymond Nolan point from play and a Darragh O'Regan point from play made victory a bit more comfortable for Crotta. Those who played well on the evening were Adam O'Sullivan, Adrian Mahony, Darrragh Ryan, David Behan, Darragh O'Regan, Barry Mahony, Raymond Nolan Sean O'Donoghue, and Gerard Galvin. (who was making his debut)
Panel as follows: Adam O'Sullivan, Brendan Conway, Adrian Mahony, Dylan McElligott, Bill Keane, Darragh Ryan, David Behan, Darragh Kennelly, Tom Quinlan, Barry Mahony, Darragh Regan, Raymond Nolan, Jordan Conway, Gearoid Galvin and Sean O'Donoghue, Jamie O'Sullivan, Darragh Sheehan, Dominic Nolan, Nathan Fahy, Aaron Murnane, Jack Glavin,Cillian Mullins,Mark Egan, Donnacha Brosnan. Referee was Keith Boyd who was excellent. We would like to thank the Abbeydorney Club for use of their pitch.

Fiddlers on the loose in Kilflynn
By DÓNAL NOLAN dnolan@kerryman.ie
Wednesday March 18 2009
A CELEBRATION of the fiddle in North Kerry trad music is set to get all dancing in Kilflynn on Saturday, March 28, next as some of the finest proponents of the instrument in the region come together for one almighty session.
Organised by local fiddle player Seán Abeyta and Mike Parker, it is now hoped the night might become a regular fixture on the Kilflynn calendar if it proves successful enough.
To be held in Parker's Bar from 8pm on the night, the idea for the whole thing came to Inisboffin native Seán while playing with his brother and Lixnaw musician Máire Walsh in January.
"My brother was down for the weekend and it was only when playing with Máire that I thought it might be a good idea to organise a platform like this for fiddlers in the region," Seán explained. He was blown away with the response.
" I thought it'd be great going if we managed to get ten together, but ringing around there seemed to be great enthusiasm and I'm confident at least 20 will be playing on the night."
It was the apparent preponderance of the accordion in the traditional music of North Kerry that first set Seán on a campaign for a dedicated fiddle event like this.
"The accordion seems to be the preferred instrument in North Kerry and I thought something like this would give the fiddle a nice bit of exposure and to hear the North Kerry fiddle style more clearly."
It's a style Seán is gradually coming to terms with since moving from his island home some years ago.
"I was amazed with sessions here at first as musicians would play polkas and slides all night long, whereas it'd be all jigs and reels at home. We're looking forward now to a mix of all on March 28 and I'm sure everyone will gel wonderfully on the night."
Contact Seán on 0873433676 or Mike on 0879794541 for further details.
A raffle in aid of the Kerry Carers' Association will also be held on the night.

125th ANNIVERSARY OF THE G.A.A

All our clubs in the county can be justifiably proud of their achievements down through the years in furthering the aims and ideals of Cumann Lúthchleas Gael. They have provided facilities and structures and above all the commitment of countless volunteers to ensure that the youth of their parishes and communities prepare for and enjoy playing our games.

BALLYSEEDY MARTYR COMMEMORATION
A large crowd attended the annual commemoration at Kilflynn, on Sunday 8th March to remember those who had given their lives in the cause of Irish freedom at Ballyseedy Cross and Clashmealcon Caves in Causeway during the dark days of the Irish Civil War. The procession, led by the Ballyseedy Martyrs’ Band, made its way from Kilflynn Bridge to the graveyard where they were welcomed by Sinn Féin local election candidate and Kilflynn native, Moss Hannon. He said that such an attendance was a testament to the esteem in which the memories of these brave men are held. Wreaths were lain by Ann Quilter and Stevie O’Callaghan and a minute’s silence was observed in memory of all those who had paid the ultimate price for their desire to see their country free from the shackles of foreign occupation. The Main Speaker was Deputy Martin Ferris who said that the men who were killed in such a brutal fashion at Ballyseedy and Clashmealcon continue to be an inspiration to Republicans throughout Kerry and beyond. He continued by saying that the best way to pay tribute to their memory was to dedicate ourselves to that same noble struggle so that all of the Irish people will one day be able to decide their own future free from outside interference. In conclusion, Moss Hannon called for a strong and committed effort to ensure the maximisation of the Sinn Féin vote in the forthcoming local elections. The commemoration ended with the rendition of ‘Amhrán na bhFían’. The commemoration was a followed by a Ballad Session and b.b.q at ‘Parker’s Bar’
