The Holy Week Schedule of Ceremonies for St Mary’s Church, Kilflynn: Holy Thursday (1st April): Mass of the Lord’s Supper: 8.30 p.m. Confession: After Mass. Ministers of the Eucharist are invited to renew their commitment for the coming year. The Washing of the Feet. Trocaire boxes should be returned. The Day Chapel in Abbeydorney and Kilflynn Church will remain open until 10.00 p.m. for private adoration. Good Friday (2nd April): Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion at 3.00 p.m. Stations of the Cross at 8.30 p.m Confessions: After both Ceremonies

SHANNOW LADYBIRDS (girls age 5 to 7)
Shannow Ladybirds have completed another fun filled and eventful year. In the past year the girls helped raise money for Chernobyl Children's Fund by carol singing in Manor Shopping Centre, they attended a Christmas Panto in Siamsa Tire, they marched in both Abbeydorney and Kilflynn St. Patrick's Day Parades and they took part in a 'Thinking Day' Ceremony in Tralee, which raised money for children in Haiti and other poverty stricken countries. As well as many arts and craft activities and games, the Ladybirds earned their 'Voting', Rainbow, Spot, Enrolment and Thinking Day Badges. There is a waiting list for membership for the year starting October 2010, if you would like information please contact Denise at 086 160 3001.

CROTTA LOTTO RESULTS
Parker’s Bar, Kilflynn was the venue for The Crotta Hurling Club lotto draw on Monday 29th March. The Four numbers drawn out of the drum by the Independent observer: Betty Falvey, Garrynagore, Lixnaw were: 3 , 18 , 19 & 28. There was NO winner of the €10,300 Jackpot as No one had the winning combinations. The Three lucky dip winners each receive 35: Jack Condon, Abbeydorney, Paul Culhane, Crotta and Padraig Quille,Glenoe, Listowel.
The next draw will take place in Herbert’s on Monday 5th April, with a Jackpot of 10, 400. GOLF
Abbeydorney Golf Society wish incoming Captain Jerome McCarthy a very successful year. The Society will hold their first outing of the year at Tralee Golf Club, Barrow on next Saturday 3rd April with the tee being reserved from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. This is a singles outing and a large turnout is expected with new members very welcome. Under 12 Hurlers are away to Kilmoyley on Friday (Good Friday) April 2nd at 6.30pm. Players to be in dressing room at 6pm. This was to be a home fixture but the field in Dromakee is closed.

LIXNAW GOLF SOCIETY
Now that our long winter of discontent has come to an end it's time to take to the fairways once more , to get some fresh air and to meet up with society friends . The schedule of outings has been finalised and we will be playing in some of the best courses in Kerry during the year . The first outing will take place at Ballybunion's Cashen course on April 17th and this will be followed by outings at Beaufort, Dooks, Mahony's Point, Killeen ( one week after the Irish Open ), Ardagh, Castlegregory and Tralee . This is a menu of courses to whet your appetite and to get you out sharpening your game .Your committee contact person will be in touch soon regarding the first outing . We would like to extend a welcome to any new members who wish to join and indeed to any former members who would like to play . See you all in Ballybunion in a few weeks .

VICTORY FOR SONNY IN CLARE PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Heartiest Congratulations are extended to Abbeydorney Ploughing Society Member Sonny Egan, Garrynagore who first prize in the horse class at the Clare Ploughing Championships which was held in Newmarket -on Fergus- on Sunday 28th March. Sonny was one of four competitors in the horse class.

TODD NOLAN HURLING TOURNAMENT 2010 LAUNCH
Sean Walsh the Chairman of The Munster Council officially launched the Todd Nolan Munster Minor Hurling Tournament on Friday night in St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn. In his address, to the gathering that included Todd's family, friends, and former team mates he said he was delighted to see the tournament go from strength to strength. The Munster Council sponsored the initiative three years ago to help Kerry Minor teams get good top class competitive games. Mr. Walsh said it was heartening to see all six Munster Counties take part in the Tournament this year. He praised Kerry for the marvellous work being done in the County to promote hurling and he congratulated Causeway Comprehensive School on it's the fantastic achievements' on the hurling fields over the past number of years.
The Chairman of the Kerry County Committee, Jerome Conway, thanked the Munster Council for the great support they give Kerry hurling. He said it was fitting that the launch took place in Kilflynn the centre of Crotta O'Neill Country where Todd Nolan was king. Mr. Conway said that his hope for the year in Hurling was that we would compete well in every competition and continue to make progress. He praised the great work of Kerry Hurling Officer Joe Walsh, GDAs Maurice Leahy and John Griffin and heartily congratulated Causeway school on their great wins in School A competitions' all year.
Mr. Dick Spring former TD and Minister for Foreign Affairs was guest speaker. Mr. Spring said that the summers of his youth were spent in Kilflynn where he played Hurling with Crotta. He said that Todd Nolan was a special person and had skill and ability on the hurling field. Had he played hurling for any of the successful counties he would have a bucket full of All Ireland medals. The former Tánaiste said it was a privilege to have played hurling with Todd and but for Causeway they would have won the 1979 County Final! He said that hurling facilities and pitches had much improved over the years since he played and he wished the Todd Nolan Tournament every success.
Brian Murphy the All Ireland Scór na nÓg Champion from Causeway closed the evening with a recitation that was worth waiting for.

Final of Stars of our Bars this weekend at Parker’s Pub
Stars Of Our Bars talent competition is coming to an exciting end with the final to take place on Saturday night March 27th in Parker’s Lounge Bar, Kilflynn. The competition has been running for the last number of weeks every Sunday night to packed audiences and this the final night promises to be exciting and entertaining.
Entries were received from all over and the judges had the unenviable job of picking the winners each week - Now we are left with Nine finalists for Saturday night’s show.
The winners of the final night will be chosen by a combination of judges scores and audience votes - this is where the acts’ friends and supporters get the chance to shine - all audience members will be given a voting card on the night of the final so the stronger the contestants’ support the greater their chances of qualifying for the county final.
This national talent competition is being promoted by the VFI and there is an overall prize fund of €50,000 sponsored by Smithwick’s. The two acts will qualify from Parker’s Pub, on Saturday night’s competition and will go forward to the county final stage.

Todd Nolan Hurling Tournament Launch 2010
The official launch of the Todd Nolan Hurling tournament will take place in the St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn on Friday night 26th March at 9.00 p.m. sharp. The tournament will be launched by Newly elected Munster Chairman, Sean Walsh also Former Crotta and Kerry Hurler Dick Spring will be a special guest on the night
On Saturday 10th April the annual Todd Nolan Hurling Tournament will once again take place. This tournament has proved hugely successful in the past two years and we are hoping the tournament in 2010 will be even better. It has proved great preparation for all minor hurling squads involved.

SCÓR NA BPÁISTI
The scor na bpaiste county semi finals were held in Abbeydorney on Sunday march 14th. Crotta O' Neills were represented in the quiz competition. This team were unfortunate not to make it through to the finals having been narrowly defeated by one question and so coming inat 3rd place. The team members were Raymond Nolan, Thomas Quinlan,
Cathal Kennelly and Aoife Mahony. This group of young people took great pride in representing their club and we look forward to calling on their skills in the future. Again the club thanks you for your efforts, you did us all proud. A special thanks also to Sarah Nolan and Kathleen Quinlan who looked after the team on the day.

UNDER 14
Crotta U14 team played their first match of the year last Saturday in Dromakee. They put up a very good show but eventually succumbed to a much stronger Ardfert team on a scoreline of Crota 2.01 Ardfert 4.04.

HANDWRITING WINNERS
Congratulations to Leah Hickey, Ryan Murphy and Darragh O'Donoghue on winning awards in the County Handwriting Competition. Congratulations to Mrs Mary McCarthy (Darraghs teacher) and Mrs Mary O'Carroll (Ryan and Leahs teacher) for their dedication and teaching skills. Mrs Catherine O'Connor (now retired) also deserves credit as she would have taught all three pupils. All three are pupils of Kilflynn National School and the school has always had winners each year that the competition has been run. Darragh O'Donoghue won category D (1st and 2nd class) County and National last year and this year he will represent Kerry as Category C (3rd and 4th class) winner in the National competition.

COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT LEARNERS
Thanks to John and Haulie from the Lixabbey Community Employment Project for having the Columbas Centre grounds and village in great shape for the St Patricks Day parade. Thanks also to Tom McElligott (the village) who volunteered his services as well.

KILFLYNN is all set for their annual St Patricks Day parade which promises be one of the biggest ever, with a huge interest about this years event.

The grand Marshall at this years St Patricks Day Parade is Irish artist, Linda Locke.
Linda uses her maiden name Graham and lives in , Catletown, Kilflynn with husband, David, their son Robert is a student in Nottingham university.
Linda Graham has works in private collections in Ireland, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, The Vatican, The United States, Singapore and Portugal. The Office of Public Works, The BreastCheck Unit at St. Vincents Hospital, Interpols Sirene Centre at Phoenix Park and The Legal Aid Board have all acquired her work for their public collections in recent times.
She has had several residencies at the Cill Rialaig Project and her paintings can be seen at the Cill Rialaig gallery, and Origin Gallery, Dublin. Along with many group exhibitions, she has had successful solo exhibitions in Britain, Ireland and the U.S.A. Her latest four solo shows in Dublin have been extremely successful R,T.É made a documentary on Grahams life and work in Autumn 2007

Businesses and groups have been working away over the past week in preparation for this year's celebrations. The Parade and Fancy Dress Parade will commence at 4.00 p.m. sharp on Wednesday 17th March from St Theresas National School and make its way to the reviewing stand in the centre of the village where local dignitaries will cast their eyes over this years entrants The parade will continue down to the bridge before returning to St. Columbas Centre, for the judging and presentation of prizes in the Fancy dress competitions. There will be trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Places in under 3, 6,10, and Over 10. There will be also medals for all participants. All those interested in Participating in the parade or in the fancy dress competitions, please assemble at the School at 3.30 p.m.

BIRTHDAY SURPRISE FOR ROBERT:
WHEN Rorbert Brennan from Rae, Kilflynn walked into Parkers Lounge Bar, Kilflynn on Saturday night 13th March he got the surprise of his life. He'd expected to go for a nice, quiet pint and meet a few friends, but instead was greeted by his family and a whole clatter of friends to celebrate his 30th birthday
His wife, Brenda, his Family and Friends had pulled out all the stops to organise a surprise party for Robert who works for Family Busseniss Brennans Hulege, The music was provided by D.J Big Clive. A fine spread of delicious B.BQ food went down a treat with everyone and the floor was busy for the rest of the night and everyone danced to their hearts content to the very best entertainment. RAG MEETING
On Sunday the 7th March, a Rag meeting was held at P. Fullers land, Fahavane, Kilflynn. This was fundraising event with the proceeds going to the Oncology Unit Kerry General Hospital. The weather conditions were great and an enjoyable day was had by all who attended. Congratulations to all the winners.
We would like to thank anyone who helped out and supported this event. A special thank you, to the Fuller family, for the use of their land. Thank you to Jerry and Darren Fuller for providing the use of their quad bike for the day, to pull down the rag. Also to Moss Hannon for providing a sound system.

Todd Nolan Hurling Tournament Launch 2010
The official launch of the Todd Nolan Hurling tournament will take place in the St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn on Friday night 26th March at 9.00 p.m. sharp. The tournament will be launched by Newly elected Munster Chairman, Sean Walsh also Former Crotta and Kerry Hurler Dick Spring will be a special guest on the night
On Saturday 10th April the annual Todd Nolan Hurling Tournament will once again take place. This tournament has proved hugely successful in the past two years and we are hoping the tournament in 2010 will be even better. It has proved great preparation for all minor hurling squads involved.

The Kerry County Board have announced that they are running a course for any person looking to become a referee. SCOR NA PAISTI
The North Kerry Hurling board scor na bpaisti competitions were held in Community Parish Hall, Abbeydorney on Friday night 5th March. The Crotta hurling club contested with strong representation in three categories . Instrumental music was represented with a lovely assemble of Fiona Hunt (Concertino) Aoife Mahony (Concertino) Katie Quilter (Fiddle) and Nathan Fahy (Banjo). This group equipped themselves very well on the night and we hope to hear more from them in the future.
The Figure dancing group consisted of six students from Kilflynn National School, Adam O’Sullivan, Barry Mahony, Edith White, Aisling Breen, Megan Glavin and Jennifer Leonard. This group were a credit to their teacher Mrs Mary Mc Carthy who took the time to travel with them on the night and had them so well prepared.
The quiz team took first place honours on the night, having obtained full marks after four rounds. The wizz-Kids who represented the club were Raymond Nolan, Cathal Kennelly, Thomas Quinlan And Aoife Mahony. They will now go forward to represent the Crotta in the county semi final in Community Parish Hall, Abbeydorney on Sunday 14th March.
The club would like to congratulate all the children who took part in this event and express a sincere thank you to them and their parents on the work and time put into practise and preparation. Great credit must also go to newly appointed Crotta Scor officer Anne Mahony who organised and prepared the Children for this competition at short notice. It is hoped to expand into other categories next year, so all you talented people, young and not so young get prepared , store away the Hurley’s , dust off the dance shoes, tune up the vocal chords and fiddles and get out and represent your club.

Please note that No training will take place for 5 to 8 year olds on Friday March 12th either due to a coaching course in Causeway that evening. All underage club coaches are asked to attend the coaching course in Causeway. The club coaching officer will contact club coaches shortly. Training for 5 to 8 year olds will resume on Friday 19th March at 7pm till 8pm. Training for 12 & 13 year olds will resume on Sunday March 14th at noon. BALLSEEDY MARTYRS
There was a large turnout in the North Kerry village of Kilflynn on Sunday, February 28th to honour the men who were killed by Free State forces at Ballyseedy outside Tralee in March 1923. The event was chaired by Morgan O' Flaherty. In his welcoming address, he said that the presence of such a large number was testimony to the esteem in which the memories of these men are still held. The main oration was delivered by Deputy Martin Ferris who said that the bravery of these men contrasted with the cowardly brutality of those who engaged in such atrocities during the Civil War. He called on all present to ensure that the objectives of these men will be achieved and that we will see an Ireland free from partition and inequality. The commemoration ended with the playing of Amhran na bhFian by the Ballyseedy Martyrs' Band.

Kilflynn St. Patrick’s Day Parade meeting will be held on Thursday night 4th March in St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn at 9.00 p.m. sharp All Musicians, Organisations, School Kids Parents. It’s most important the Parents, help out with the fancy dress parade competition this year. Please attend this meeting. All Ideas welcome and everybody is very welcome to attend.

TABLE QUIZ
The Crotta Senior Management held a quiz night in both Parkers Pub and Herbert’s Bar, Kilflynn on Friday last the 26th February. The quiz was in aid of the senior training expenses. As you may be aware the Crotta hurling club is undertaking a huge project in 2010 in which it is intend to carry out major drainage works to improve the playing surface, at their pitch in Dromakee, Kilflynn. As you can appreciate this is a big expenses to the club and as a result we the senior management wanted to bring in some funding to help fund our activities throughout the year. The quiz night was a huge success raising 2,600.00. A great night of fun was had by all.

After 8 rounds of 10 questions, The winners of the quiz with a score of 70 were The Terriers from Tralee, team members Geraldine Sheehy, Paul Culloty, Maureen Guerin and Breda O’ Regan. In second place with a score of 67 were Cork City, team members consisting of Kay Crowley, James Crowley and Anthony Guerin, and in third place with a score of 64 were The O’Mahony Raiders team member consisting of Bridget Leen, Eileen Falvey, Brendan Falvey snr and Brendan falvey jnr. Congratulations to all. There are a few people that need to be thanked for the success of the event. They are, our quizmasters, Sonny Egan, Paddy Weir who were excellent on the night, the paper correctors consisting of: John Howard, Frankie Lynch, Caroline Lynch and Dan McCarthy. GOLF
Abbeydorney Golf Society held a well attended Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 23rd February when the officers reported on a very successful year for the society in 2009. The following officers were elected for the coming year, Captain Jerome McCarthy, President Raymond Roche, Vice-Captain, Sandy Egan, Secretary/Treasurer Tom McNeice and PRO Frank O Donovan. We wish Jerome and Raymond all the best for the year.
The first outing of the year will be held at Tralee Golf Club, Barrow on Saturday 3rd April, further details will be available nearer to the date.

KERRY SENIOR HURLERS
The Kerry Senior hurlers continued their winning streak in the National league div 3a in Castlebar, on Sunday 28th February with a victory over the home side Mayo with a score of 1-18 to 2-14. The teams were even at half time Kerry 0-11 to 1-8 to Mayo.
The Crotta hurling club was well represented by Andrew Keane (right corner back) and Shane Nolan who scored his first two points in the National league at Right Corner Forward and Richard Nolan (Sub) and Tudy Ryan, Knocknacaska, Kilflynn was the team physio. Well done lads. Kerry are at home to Meath on Sunday 14th March in Round 3

STARS OF OUR BARS
Stars Of Our Bars talent competition is continuing in Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn every Sunday night to packed audiences and runs for another two weeks.
Applications are still very welcome – so if you think you’ve got what it takes to go all the way then enter today – application forms available online at www.parkerspub.com or by calling into the bar. There is no entry fee. The V.F.I is promoting this national competition and there is an overall prize fund of €50,000 sponsored by Smithwick’s. The winner of the grand final will go forward to the county final stage where the prize money for the winner is €1,000 and second and third prizes will be given. Additionally the prize money for the national winner is €7,500, €2,500 for second place, and €1,000 for third. This talent competition is a national event and is run in association with the VFI.
The competition is open to singers, dancers, musicians, comedians and poets over the age of 18. So if you think you have got what it takes to knock the socks off the judges come along to Parker's on Sunday and join in the fun. CROTTA COISTE NA NOG TRAINING
Please note that No training will take place this Friday evening March 5th for 5 to 8 year old children or on Sunday March 7th for 12 & 13 year olds (due to St Senans Social in hall). Training will not take place for 5 to 8 year olds on Friday March 12th either due to a coaching course in Causeway that evening. All underage club coaches are asked to attend the coaching course in Causeway. The club coaching officer will contact club coaches shortly. Training for 5 to 8 year olds will resume on Friday 19th March at 7pm till 8pm. Training for 12 & 13 year olds will resume on Sunday March 14th at noon. The Tuesday evening training for U10 will take place as normal.
Training course for underage club coaches will take place on Friday March 12th in Causeway at the Ball Wall for 1 hour from 7pm to 8pm. Please be at the venue at 6.45pm.

REGISTRATION
As previously stated Crotta hurling club membership is due for renewal. As directed by Croke Park Club members have to be registered by 31st March 2010. Only registered members will be allowed to vote at Club AGM and the club is also discussing the option of limiting the draw for All Ireland tickets to members registered in time. Registrar Paul O'Donoghue will be in The Clubrooms, Dromakee on Sunday next March 7th from 12 noon to 2 p.m. to facilitate people who want to register.

HAMPERS
Two beautiful hampers will be raffled at Easter and the proceeds will go towards Crotta Coiste na Nog funds. More details in next weeks notes. Thanks to Maura Egan and Sheila O'Sullivan for shopping and putting the hampers together. Thanks to Christina our local florist for help with ribbons etc.

GAA GAELTACHT SCHOLARSHIPS 2010
The Kerry County Board in conjunction with the Munster Council and Colaiste Chorca Dhuibhne are offering part scholarships to both boys and girls between the age of 12 and 18 in the Chorca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht. In addition to improving their knowledge of Irish the students will also learn Irish songs and dance. Students will also learn the skills of Gaelic Football and Hurling during the course. The available dates are June 30th to July 22nd or July 23rd to August 14th. Those interested should contact the County Board Office at 066-7122061 or any of the club officers.

RAG MEETING
A Rag meeting in aid the oncology unit of Kerry General Hospital, will be held on the lands of P. Fuller, Kilflynn on Sunday 7th March, Starting at 11.00 a,m. Entries: phone 087 9172642 after 7.00 p.m.

REFEREES COURSE
The Kerry County Board have announced that they are running a course for any person looking to become a referee. Crotta hurling club are looking for any club member interested in becoming a referee to contact club secretary Mark Hussey. It is important that the club be proactive in providing referees, as it takes the pressure off the existing referees.

SENIOR HURLERS
Competitive action gets underway in North Kerry on this Saturday, 6th March, with the Senior Hurling League. Crotta Seniors are away to Abbeydorney at 5.00 p.m.
Best of luck to the lads in green and red and their management team of Seamie Sheehan, Paul Shanahan and John Shanahan for the 2010 season.
The teams have been drawn in 2 groups with the top 2 in each qualifying for the Senior ‘A’ Final and the second placed in each group playing in the Senior ‘B’ Final. Round 1 fixtures are as follows; Group 1 - Ballyduff v Kilmoyley; Causeway v St. Brendan’s v; Group 2 - Lixnaw v Ballyheigue; Abbeydorney v Crotta O’Neill’s. Further rounds on the weekends of the 3rd and 17th April.
