LAUNCH OF THE TODD NOLAN TOURNAMENT 2011
The launch of the Tournament took place at St Columbas Centre Kilflynn Friday night 25th March. Vice chairman of The Munster Council Robert Frost attended as did Michael McCarthy The Kerry Coaching & Games officer, Joe Walsh County Hurling Officer and Kerry County P.R.O Maureen O’Shea did her usual excellent job of M. C. on the night.
Mike McCarthy in his address thanked the Munster Council for sponsoring this competition that has been so valuable to Kerry Minor Hurlers. He said that this tournament helped the skill level and preparation of The Minor Hurling team for various inter county Competitions. He thanked all the clubs in Kerry, the Causeway Comprehensive School and Kerry GDA's Maurice Leahy and John Griffin for all the hard work that has gone into juvenile coaching over the past number of years. He added that the improvements can be seen in their displays on the fields over the past number of years.
Robert Frost the Vice Chairman of The Munster Council, played Minor and u21 hurling with Clare, said he was particularly delighted to be at the launch. He is friends with a lot of Clare hurlers that played with Todd Nolan on railway cup teams and he said they always speak of his skill and prowess in hurling. He said that the Nolan family kept up the long Kerry tradition of playing hurling as Todd, his father and now his nephews played the game. He commended everyone involved in Kerry Hurling for the hard work they put in to promoting the game and he wished the Todd Nolan tournament every success.
Dan McCarthy the chairman of The Crotta Club welcomed everyone to the launch on behalf of the Club and the Nolan family. He said Todd had great hurling skills and loved to extol those skills on the field of play. The Todd Nolan minor tournament was a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to the game. He said he hoped it would continue as an annual event.
The now annual Todd Nolan Hurling Tournament will take place on Saturday 2nd April 2011. The tournament has been a great success in recent years and has proved invaluable to all squads involved in recent years. Proceedings will get underway at 11,30am in Abbeydorney and Kilmoyley. Kerrys Minor Hurlers will pit themselves against the Munster Counties U17 Hurling Squads. Kerry will be aiming to defend their title that they won in 2010 and was captained by Sean Weir of Crotta . All involved are very grateful for the support of the Munster Council GAA and all other parties who contribute to the running on the tournament.
Also at St Columbas Centre on Friday night 25th March The Lady's Walk club presented a cup in memory of John O'Connor to the Kerry County Committee. Mike Slattery The Chairman of Lady's Walk said that John served Lady's Walk for 46 years. He played with the club, was Treasurer and coached teams for years. He kept the club alive in lean times and often paid the affiliation fees from his own pocket. He gave his life and energy to Lady's Walk and the club felt that a cup in his memory will in a small way acknowledge the work he did for the GAA during his lifetime. Mike Slattery, Vincent Linnane , John Paul Leahy and other club officers present the Cup to Joe Walsh and Mike McCarthy of Kerry County Committee.

CAMOGIE
The Kerry U16's were away to Carlow last Sunday in Round 4 of the Championships. Carlow started the better, and were 4 points to no score after ten minutes. Kerry's Patrice Diggin from placed ball closed the gap to 2 points. Again Carlow showed their experience and their back line held out from some great pressure from Kerry. Half time Carlow 0-6 Kerry 0-2. The Kerry girls started the second half much brighter and began to gain more possession but converting this to scores proved difficult. Carlow added 1-1 in this half with it just not being Kerry's day and it finished on a score line of Carlow 1-7 Kerry 0-2. Megan Weir, Kilflynn played at full forward. Its worth noting Carlow won this grade last year, and it begs the question why they didn’t move up a grade.
Round 5 is away to Kildare next Saturday in the last of the rounds and we wish the team and management a good finish to this campaign.

Last Saturday evening week March 5th Crotta Coiste na nOg held their awards night. Guest of honour on the night was Sean Og O'Halpin. The three times All Star and All Ireland winning Captain in 2005 gave the Crotta Coiste na nOg Club a night that will live long in the memory. Sean Og and his good friend Jim O'Sullivan put the U14 squad through a great training session earlier in the day and then presented the winning NK Championship U11 panel and the winning County Championship U12 panel with their medals at a packed St Columbas Centre in Kilflynn. The U10 panel that finished as runners up in an U10 blitz also received medals. Paul O'Donoghue welcomed Sean Og to Kilflynn and said the Crotta Club were honoured to have such a hurling icon presenting medals to our young hurlers. He also thanked Jim O'Sullivan for making it all possible and to Fr Jack Fitzgerald for his help. Paul thanked the young players for their dedication, the parents for all they do getting players to and from matches and training and also all coaches who give so much to the club. He thanked all who helped prepare the Centre for the occasion namely John Goggin and Mark Godley who are part of the Lixabbey CE Project, John Mahony, Mike McKenna, Mark Hussey and Siobhan Herbert. Mike Parker was also thanked for arranging photographers. Paul also thanked the St Columbas Centre committee especially Maureen Weir.

Crotta Coiste Na nOg Chairman Sonny Egan in his address said it was great for all members of Crotta Coiste na nOg present to have Sean Og with us. He said Sean Og was a tremendous sportsman who was a great footballer as well as a great hurler. He said Crotta Coiste had decided to put on a special night to commerate a historic year in the Club when both the U11 and U12 teams had won Championships in 'A' hurling competitions. He thanked Primms restaurant for the food and said that everyone in the hall was welcome to eat as all had been part of a very successful year. Sonny also thanked parents, players and coaches. Sonny's final act was to present Sean Og with a Crotta jersey. Sean Og then decided to put the jersey on to rapturous applause.
In his inspirational speech which captured the attention of everyone, he told the young players that they were the future of the club and to keep hurling while trying to improve themselves all the time. He said that these young players should be looked after as they were the most important players in the Crotta hurling Club. He said every Club needs a strong ,well structured Coiste na nOg set up to survive. Sean Og was a great ambassador for the GAA. He had time for everyone no matter what age and was such a gentleman. People queued to have their photo taken and have a chat with him and he seemed in no rush. Sean Og and Jim made such an impression on everyone present that they are most welcome to visit the Club at anytime. The large crowd present gave the lads a standing ovation as they left the Centre. To see so many smiling faces especially the young children made the occasion so worthwhile.
Thanks also to Sarah Nolan, Kathleen Quinlan and all who helped in any way during the evening. Thanks to Ann Mahony and the Crotta Scor na nOg musicians of Nathan Fahy, Eimear Quinlan, Barry Mahony, Padraic Shanahan, Thomas Quinlan, Aoife Mahony and Sinead O’Sullivan who entertained the crowd.

laugh is one way of lifting the spirits. The play is about Gertie O'Grady, a retired teacher and spinster, who comes to stay with her niece, Mary Murphy, after a spell in hospital. Mary tries to persuade her aunt to make a will and is secretly hoping that her family will get a large bequest. Although equally covetous of Gertie's money, Mary's husband, Dan hates the woman and plans to drive her away. To this end, he sets his plan in motion, with the help of his slightly dim farmhand, Francie Gilhooley. Meanwhile, Dan and Mary's wastrel son, John Paul and his friend, Jarlath McKenna are hoping to become rock stars, and are trying to raise money for their London Gigs. John Paul comes up with a brilliant plan, which has devastating and Hilarious consequences for the whole family. Leaving everyone including Gertie speechless.
