HOLY WEEK CEREMONIES
The Holy Week Schedule of Ceremonies for St Mary’s Church, Kilflynn: Holy Thursday (28th March): Mass of the Lord’s Supper: 6.30 p.m. Ministers of The Eucharist are invited to renew their commitment for the coming year. The Washing of the Feet. Trocaire boxes should be returned. The Day Chapel in Abbeydorney will remain open until 10.00 p.m. and Kilflynn Church will remain open until 9.00p.m. for private adoration. KILFLYNN DRAMA GROUP
The Kilflynn Drama Group in association with O'Neill's Crotta Hurling Club and their producer John Shanahan are very busy putting the finishing touches to their production “TOO CLOSE TO HOME” , A Three Act Comedy By Jimmy Keary. From what this writer is hearing this years play is a great comedy with a laugh a minute and having an all local cast of Niall Mc Elligott, Geraldine Parker, David O’Brien, Marion Lynch, Sean Guiheen, Roisin McCormack, Graham Harris, Kathleen McElligott and Tommy Neenan should provide a fantastic nights entertainment. This year’s production will be staged in St Columbas Centre, Kilflynn On Friday 5th, Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th April. Curtain up at 8.15 p.m. sharp. . In a further effort to beat the recession blues, tickets will be selling at only €10 each for adults and Children under 16 only €5. The launch of William King’s new book, Is That All There Is? Was held on Friday night 22nd March in St. John’s Centre, The Square, Listowel. Guest Speakers on the night were Minister Jimmy Dennihan, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. Pat Moore and John Flaherty, Kilflynn. William King was born in Kilflynn, in 1945 and is parish priest at Corpus Christi, Drumcondra. He is author of bestselling novels The Strangled Impulse (1997), Swansong (2001) and Leaving Ardglass (2008). Kilflynn was well represented at the launch on Friday night by Fr. King’s neighbours and friends.

KERRY HURLERS
The Kerry senior hurlers defeated Kildare by 2-16 to 1-16 in the Allianz Hurling League Division 2A Round 4 on Saturday 23rd March in St. Conleth’s Park Newbridge. The Crotta hurling club was represented on the Kerry squad by Shane Nolan who scored 2-10 (0--08f) at corner forward and Cyril Lynch was also a member of the Kerry panel. Kerry led by the slenderest of margins at half time, 9 points to 8.

LIXNAW COMMUNITY GAMES
Many congratulations to all who participated in the county community games final in the projects competition and did so well. The U16 team who won gold for the county are Máire Trant, Aoife Hennessey and Roisín McElligott. The U11 team who won the silver county medals are Aoibhe Linnane, Sinead Behan and Clodagh McElligott.
The u13 team took the bronze medals and they were Cillian Trant, Daniel Hunt, David O' Connell and Aodhán Behan. The u16 team now go forward to represent the county at the national finals and we wish them all the best of luck. Well done to all.

KERRY SPELLING BEE COMPETITION
A massive congratulations to Eamonn Rohan of St. Teresa's N.S. Kilflynn who won the county Eason's Spelling Bee at Scoil Íosagáin, Ballybunion on Wednesday, 13th March. He competed along with 11 other pupils for the title and after a nail biting, tie breaker round he came out victorious. He will now go forward to represent Kerry in the Munster Spelling Bee which will be in Tipperary in June and hosted by Ryan Tubridy.

Commiserations to Causeway Comprehensive School hurling team who were defeated by Gairmscoil Mhuire, Athenry Vocational School in a thrilling All-Ireland Vocational Schools Junior Hurling Final after extra time on Saturday March 16th in the Gaelic Grounds Limerick on a score of 2-15 to 1-17. The Crotta hurling club was well represented by Jordan Conway who played at Corner Forward scoring a point on the Causeway team. Causeway led by 1-08 to 0-07 at the interval.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE


Kilflynn is all set for their annual St Patricks Day parade, Businesses and groups have been working away over the past few weeks in preparation for this year's celebrations.
Kilflynn St Patricks Day parade, and Fancy Dress Parade will commence at 4.00 p.m. sharp on Sunday 17th March from St Teresa’s National School and Judging and presentation of prizes in the Fancy dress competitions at St. Columbas Centre after the parade. There will be trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Places in under 3s, Preschoolers, U-6s and Over 12. There will be also medals for all participants. There is also a Prize for the Best float, All those interested in Participating in the parade or in the fancy dress competitions, please assemble outside the School at 3.30 p.m. Entry Fee per child in the fancy dress is €2 or three for €5. Hope to see you all there. Kilflynn’s St Patrick’s Day parade is set to go global this year, becoming the first parade in Kerry to be streamed in its entirety live over the internet.
Kilflynn people all over the world will be able to watch all that’s happening throughout the day on www.parkerspub.com website streaming the event. The live stream will be free to view and The viewers around the world will be able to send in messages which will be read out on air, as well as enjoying the entertainment from Kilflynn. It’s a great way for us to reach out to our ex-pat community around the world on St Patrick’s Day. Cameras will be positioned in the village, recording all of the action as the parade passes the reviewing stand in the centre of the village. In addition, live commentary and interviews with some of the local people will be broadcast throughout the event. ST.BRENDAN’S BOARD MINI SEVENS
On Monday, 11th March, St. Teresa's National School, Kilflynn took part in the St. Brendan's Board Mini Sevens football Blitz in Abbeydorney. Kilflynn had victories against Spa school, Glenderry and finally It was a top of a table clash against, Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn, with victory going to Kilflynn. They topped the group and will go forward to represent the teams in the St. Brendan's Board in the county mini sevens.
After the game Kilflynn Captain Aodhan McKenna received the trophy from Cumann Na mBunscol chairman Tomas Hanafin. Well done to the team who played in very cold conditions. Thank you to Jerome O' Sullivan for coaching the team.

The Kerry Senior hurlers were defeated by Laois on Sunday 10th March in O’Moore Park, Portlaoise by 2-20 to 2-12 in The Allianz Hurling League Roinn 2A, Round 2. The home side led by 1-09 to 1-06 at the interval break. The Crotta hurling club will be represented on the Kerry squad by Shane Nolan who scored 0-07 (7f) at corner forward and Cyril Lynch was also a member of the Kerry panel.
The Kerry Senior hurlers will play Wicklow in the Allianz Hurling League Division 2A Round 3 on Saturday March 16th at 5:15pm in Austin Stack Park Tralee. Causeway Comprehensive School hurling team booked their place in the All Ireland Vocational Schools Junior Hurling Championship final, with a 0-18 to 1-13 victory over Scoil Mhuire Thomastown, Co Kilkenny in Claughaun, Limerick on Saturday 9th March. The Crotta hurling club was represented by Jordan Conway who played at Corner Forward on the victories Causeway team.
Causeway Comprehensive will play Gairmscoil Mhuire, Athenry Vocational School in the Masita GAA All-Ireland Vocational Schools Junior Hurling Final on Saturday March 16th at 1:00pm in the Gaelic Grounds Limerick. The most recent meeting of the Society welcomed the new Captain for 2013, Gary Hogan. The President for the coming year is Eamon Fitzmaurice, best of luck for the coming year to Gary and Eamon. Kilflynn St Patricks Day parade, and Fancy Dress Parade will commence at 4.00 p.m. sharp on Sunday 17th March from St Teresa’s National School and Judging and presentation of prizes in the Fancy dress competitions at St. Columbas Centre after the parade. There will be trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Places in under 3s, Preschoolers, U-6s and Over 12. There will be also medals for all participants. There is also a Prize for the Best float, All those interested in Participating in the parade or in the fancy dress competitions, please assemble outside the School at 3.30 p.m. Entry Fee per child in the fancy dress is €2 or three for €5. 90th ANNIVERSARY BALLYSEEDY COMMEMORATION
The 90th Anniversary of the Ballyseedy Massacre will be commemorated on this Sunday 10th March. There will be a short commemoration and wreath laying ceremony at the world famous monument at Ballyseedy at 12 noon. In Kilflynn village, At 5 pm there will be a parade from the bridge to The old graveyard, where there is monument to Timothy Twomey and George O'Shea who were killed at Ballyseedy and Timothy "Aero" Lyons who was killed the following month at Clashmealcon Caves, assemble at 4.45 pm at the bridge. North Kerry TD Martin Ferris will give the main oration and the event. There will be a Ballad Session afterwards in Parkers Pub. Everyone, political or otherwise, is welcome to come along.

KILFLYNN DEFIBRILLATOR GROUP
CPR and Defibrillator (AED) courses will take place at St Teresas National School, Kilflynn on the Saturday 9th March 2013. Two courses will be run on the day, first course 9am to 1pm and the second course from 2pm to 6pm. Course slot times will be allotted on a first come basis. To assist in defraying some of the cost of these courses, course cost is €20 per participant with the balance paid by the Kilflynn Defibrillator Group. New volunteers are most welcome. SCOR NA bPAISTE
On Friday night 1st March in Causeway the North Kerry Hurling board held their Competion for scor na bpaisti. O'Neills Crotta competed in 4 events. Representing the club on the night were; Figure dancing; Nicole O' Connor, Ciara Rohan, Aoife Bowler, Ciara Bowler, Tadhg McKenna, Denis Nolan, Daragh O' Braoin and Cillian Baker, Instrumental music; Emer Quinlan, Páraic Shanahan, Amy O'Sullivan and Cillian Trant, Quiz team; Darragh O' Donoghue, Eamonn Rohan, Cillian Trant and Páraic Shanahan. Solo Singing; Kate Lynch. While all the children performed very well it was Kate Lynch, Glenballyma, Kilflynn having won the solo singing competition will now go forward to represent the club in the county semi final next Sunday. Many thanks to all the children for their hard work in preparing for the event, also kind appreciation to those who trained the children, to Marie O'Connell who gave of her time to prepare the figure dancing, Ann Mahony and Louise Bunyan for the instrumental music and singing, and to Kathleen Quinlan in taking the quiz team.

CROTTA HURLERS
The Crotta Senior hurlers commenced their 2013 season away to Lixnaw on Sunday 3rd March in The North Kerry League, and were defeated by 3-12 to 2-06. Crotta top scorer was Aaron Sheehan who scored 1-01 playing at full forward, and Tom McElligott, Kilflynn village made his club senior debut. Crotta play Abbeydorney in the next round away on Saturday 16th March.
