CROTTA UNDER 8 HURLING NEWS
Lerrig was the venue last Monday evening for the under 8's first tournament of the year. Teams from Crotta, Abbeydorney, Causeway, Ardfert, Ballyheigue and Kilmoyley took part. It was great to see young lads from all clubs in their club colours and a large crowd to witness the evenings events.
Great credit to Maurice Leahy the co-ordinator of the blitz.
Games were 8 minutes a half and Crotta's first match was against Ardfert. It was a game of many chances but both teams failed to score so it ended in a draw. Next up was a match against Kilmoyley and Crotta got on top early on. Crotta were proving to be the stronger team and had a number of chances but they failed to convert these chances. However, before half time Darragh O'Donoghue had the Crotta supporters cheering when he broke the deadlock with a well placed ground strike. Half-time Crotta 1-00, Kilmoyley 0-00. This was to be the last action of the evening as a torrential downpour gave the organisers no choice but to call off the blitz.
However, another blitz had been organised for Lerrig next Monday 19th may @ 6.15pm. On the evening players to impress were Darragh O'Donoghue who was outstanding, Eamon Rohan, Sean Murnane, Aodhan McKenna, Rhys Quilter, Kieran Trant, Denis Nolan (still only 5 and had two great chances of goals against Ardfert but shot narrowly wide each time), Aodhan Behan all played exceptionally well. Ryan Murphy, Dylan Murphy, Darragh Murnane all played their part. Due to the community games on the same evening a number of players were not present but should be available the next day.

CROTTA UNDER 12 NEWS
Last Friday evening Crotta played Duagh in the first match of the second phase of the under 12 league. It was a beautiful evening for hurling and the pitch was in excellent condition. Paud Twomey the club chairman was busy mowing the pitch before the match so it was in top condition for the throw in.
Crotta got off the mark early with a lovely point from Tom McElligott within the first minute. They missed alot of scoreable chances with some wasteful shooting but ten minutes from the end of the first half Darragh Regan found his range and scored two long range points. A long delivery from Barry Mahony went all the way to the net deceiving the Duagh keeper who in fairness was hampered by a low sunset. Raymond Nolan then scored a point and Jordan Conway closed the first half scoring by converting a free following a foul on Bill Keane. Half-time Crotta 1-05, Duagh 0-00.
The second half opened as the first did with Crotta scoring an early point through Sean O'Donoghue. A number of subs were introduced shortly after and all played well. Duagh started to come more in to the game and scored a goal. However, Raymond Nolan scored a lovely goal latching on to a through ball and shooting across the Duagh keeper. Darragh Regan also found the net midway through the half. Duagh scored 1-01 before the end of the match to leave the final score Crotta 3-06, Duagh 2-01.
Scorers: Darragh Regan (1-02), Raymond Nolan (1-01), Jordan Conway (0-01), Sean O'Donoghue (0-01), Tom McElligott (0-01), Barry Mahony (1-00). Tom O'Connor Ballyheigue refereed the match superbly.
Next match versus Laune Rangers next Friday evening 23rd May in Killorglin.
Panel of players who played against Duagh: Barry Mahony, Thomas Quinlan, Adrian Mahony, Brandon Conway, David Behan, Tom McElligott, Bill Keane, Darragh Regan, Patrick Fahy, Jordan Conway, Ciaran Flanagan, Raymond Nolan, Sean O'Donoghue, Sean Gleasure, Colin Browne, Aaron Murnane, Dylan McElligott, Adam O'Sullivan, Mark Egan, Darragh Kennelly, Cathal Kennelly, Dominic Nolan, and Jack Glavin.

LATEST NOVEL FOR KILFYNN AUTHOR:
Launched by RTE's Joe Duffy, 'Leaving Ardglass' is a novel written by William King, a Laccamore native and now a parish priest in Drumcondra, Dublin. This book is an epic tale that spans 50 years of Irish social history; from tears at railway stations to the Celtic Tiger; from drunken brawls in north London pubs to the magic of dancehall nights at the Galtymore in Cricklewood. Two sons dominate the book; one becomes a millionaire builder in Kilburn, the other a monsignor. The novel is a mirror held up to our human condition - ambition, betrayal, Church politics, and the light of human goodness that shines throughout. Published by the Lilliput Press, 'Leaving Ardglass' is now available at most bookshops.

UNDER 16 HURLING
The U16 County League, hurling Div.2.: Semi final was played on the 10 th May, Saturday evening in Lerrig at 7 against Abbeydorney. This was a refixture to facilitate Abbeydorney as they were unable to field a team on the appointed night which was last Thursday 8th May. This was a close and fast paced encounter with Abbeydorney fielding a full 13 for this match. The half time score was Crotta/Duagh 1-4 Abbeydorney 1-5. However, with a man of the match performance by Sean Weir, the second half saw Crotta/Duagh forge ahead and won out deserved winners on a score line of Crotta/Duagh 3-7 Abbeydorney 2-8.
Team as follows: M Kelly, M Mc Elligott, T Quirke, P Whelan, E Kelly (1-1(1f)), S Horgan, S Weir (1-3), D Mc Auliffe, S Dolan, T Quille, S Dowling, C O Regan(1-2(1f)),
K O'Mahony (0-1), K Rohan, J Nolan, D Fuller, N Doody, G Mc Elligott.
Referee was Finbar Canty, Causeway who did a good job.
U16 County League, hurling Div.2 FINAL.: The Final of this competition was played on Sunday 11th May against Ardfert in Lerrig at 1 o clock. To say our players were tired going into this match would be an understatement, it was plain to be seen that Saturday night's game had taken its toll and this was reflected in the half time score of Crotta/Duagh 0-3, Ardfert 2-6.. This difference in the score seemed like a mountain to climb for the second half but fair praise must be given to this team who gave a powerful and proud performance and outscored Ardfert in this half by 2-4 to Ardfert 0-4. This valiant effort was still not enough at the final whistle as Ardfert ran out winners on a final score of Crotta/Duagh 2-7 Ardfert 2-10.
Our congratulations go to Ardfert on what was an excellent sporting game of hurling and was well refereed by Diarmuid Carroll, Ballyduff.
However, fair minded sportspersons or anyone who has the interest of players to the fore would agree that in these days where there is much lip service about underage burnout, running two games at this level within 16 hours is to say the least, unfair to the players. Especially, when it is taken into account that the majority of these dedicated players were playing other sports this weekend also (football, soccer and athletics). Another day would have made no difference to this competition. Particularly, when Ardfert had indicated that they would agree to play the final on Monday but our County Bord Na nÓg ruled that it had to go ahead regardless of player welfare and safety. This type of heavy-handed attitude by Bord nÓg does nothing to promote the game of hurling or sport in general.
Team as follows: M Kelly, M Mc Elligott, T B Mc Elligott, S Dowling, E Kelly0-1(1f)), T Quirke, S Weir(0-3(2f)), D Mc Auliffe(0-1), J Nolan, S Dolan, K O'Mahony, C O'Regan
(1-1(1f), T Quille(1-1), subs: K O'Mahony R/b P Lane, J Nolan R/B K Rohan, D Fuller, N Doody, G Mc Elligott.
