ST. TERESA’S NATIONAL SCHOOL
The pupils of St Teresa’s N.S. Kilflynn worked very hard this month to ensure their Green Schools Day of Action was a great success. All classes undertook art projects using recycled materials. There was an array of amazing work on display from castles to cardboard cities, box monsters to button pictures.
As always St. Teresa’s N.S., Kilflynn had numerous entries at this year’s Kingdom County Fair. They were generously awarded for their massive efforts. There were many winners in the Art & Crafts Section. The pupils’ castles made a big impression with Darragh Clark winning 1st prize as well as Nicole O’ Connor, Aisling Breen and Parker McLemore getting special awards for their designs. The Rohan family did extremely well in the “decorate a container” and card section with Ciara, Diarmuid and Séan winning two 2nd and a 3rd. Special rosettes were awarded to the pupils who designed lovely bookmarks. Well done to Kate Lynch, Tadhg McKenna, Nicole O’ Connor, Denis Nolan, Amy O’ Sullivan, Darragh O’ Donaghue, Séan and Darragh Murnane and Jack Mckenna. Art and agriculture went hand in hand with the children in 3rd and 4th entering their fantastic farm pictures. Ryan Nolan won 2nd prize with special awards going to Amy Lousie O’ Sullivan, Sophie Keirns, Amy O’ Sullivan, Aoife Bowler, Lucas Parkinson and Eoin Relihan. Handwriting in St. Teresa’s has always been commended with Nicole O’ Connor and Aoibhe McKenna being awarded rosettes and 1st place going to Ciara Rohan and 2nd to Sophie Kerins.
This year St. Teresa’s N.S. undertook a knitting project to promote the craft and rejuvenate interest in the skill. Many local women and parents offered up their free time to come to the school and work with the children to create fantastic pieces of knitting. First and second class boys used their knitting skills to create a lovely knitted farm for the Kingdom County fair, which won 2nd prize on the day. Seán McGrath, Aaron McElligott, Mark Sheehan, Colin McElligott with the help of Mary Brassil all worked very hard to win this well-deserved prize. In third class expert knitters Ciara Rohan won 3rd and Nicole O’ Connor got highly commended for their lovely cushions.
Following their success in the Kingdom County Fair, 1st and 2nd Class entered the “Scariest Scarecrow” Competition at The Parent’s and Friend’s Garden Fete, Listowel and succeeded in winning 1st prize for their hand knitted snake scarecrow!!!!

Diarmuid Galvin R.I.P

THE LATE DIARMUID GALVIN
On Easter Monday 9th April ,The Crotta Flags flew at half mast because A true and passionate Crotta Gael had passed away. Yes, Diarmuid Galvin was sadly taken from us at a relatively young age. Although, ill for some time -that incredible faith and hope that he possessed was what sustained him in his darker hours.
An affiable and charismatic individual with a positive attitude ,Diarmuid was gifted with a sharp intellect and was equally at ease discussing farming, politics ,G.A.A., or local affairs. Not only was he regarded as a kind generous and obliging neighbour, but he was also held in the highest esteem by those he encountered throughout his life.
I first met Diarmuid one Summer's evening when he made his maiden voyage to Sam's Hurling field on his Honda 50 fresh from College and having just started his job with Kerry Co-op.He was a happy carefree 20 year old, with a beaming smile who was about to go through his initiation with the seasoned Crotta Senior's. From then on, his contribution to The Crotta club was enormous as player ,trainer ,taxi man and administrator. He spent endless hours working on the club's behalf and although he realised that this was often a thankless job, it never prevented him from doing his utmost .For 30 Years he immersed himself completely in the affairs of the Club and whatever needed to be done He just set about the job without depending on anyone else. During this time, he served in various capacities including chairman and secretary of the club.
As the Green and red flag fluttered in the Dromakee breeze that sad Monday, it was hard to imagine that 30 years earlier, Diarmuid had been one of the driving forces behind the push to purchase that field and his signature is one of the four on the purchase order in 1981.
Although he did not have any County Championship medals to show for his efforts, for Diarmuid it was the playing of the game ,the camaraderie ,the enjoyment ,and the memories associated with it that were important. This ideal permeated all his life whether it was in hurling, football, indoor soccer, or golf.
To the Crotta juveniles in the 80’s, Diarmuid was an idol .He trained them .joked and bantered with them and ferried to and from games. Deservedly, his efforts were rewarded when they captured the County Juvenile title (U-14) in 1980.
Diarmuid had his own big day in 1979 when, although on the losing side, he relished the experience and excitement of Co. final day .Last October, he had the distinction and pleasure of seeing his son David experienced Co. final day in a green and red jersey. For him that was sufficient reward for what he had given to the G.A.A.
The Crotta club wishes to extend its deepest sympathy to his wife Eileen, his sons Jer and Dave, brothers Kevin, John, Tom, Dan and Pat, his uncle, aunts, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives, neighbours, and a large circle of friends
"Ni bheidh a leitheid ann aris."
