MAY 2016

25th May 2016

Fourth and fifth class from St.Treasa's National School Kilflynn and their teacher Ms Laura Horgan were delighted that Seán Kelly attended the Europe Day celebrations in Scoil Treasa Naofa, Kilflynn on Thursday May 19th.
Seán received a warm welcome from children who exhibited Irish and European entertainment. He planted a holly tree in the school garden to mark this historic event.
The former president of the GAA enjoyed banter with the men present and expressed his desire for their club Crotta O’Neill’s to win the county championship in the near future. Seán interacted very well with the children and even demonstrated on a practical level the system of voting employed in Parliament. He commended the extensive work done by the fourth and fifth class who are participating in the Blue Star Programme. Europe Day would not have been a success without the parents and grandparents in attendance. Sincere gratitude is extended not only to those in attendance but also to the talented members of the community who generously donated delicious homemade treats for the refreshments enjoyed with Seán Kelly afterwards.

AMBASSADOR VISIT KILFLYNN N.S
Ms Laura Horgan and her 4th and 5th class in St.Treasa's National School, Kilflynn are this year participating in the Blue Star Programme. The aim of the programme is to create political and cultural awareness of the European Union. The children have been carrying out projects in relation to history, geography, culture and institutions of the EU. The children are thoroughlyenjoying the programme as it is curriculum friendly. Their ICT skills have been enhanced by the use of technology such as Power Point and audio clips which showcase the various projects that they have undertaken.
Participation in the Blue Star Programme resulted in the Hungarian Embassy requesting the school to host a visit from their ambassador. On Friday last Kilflynn national school warmly welcomed Istvan Palffy along with his wife and son. A cake with the Hungarian Flag was presented to him. Jimmy Deenihan was also present to speak about climate change. Both visitors planted a holly tree to mark the occasion.
The school would like to express their sincere thanks to Hungarian- born Ildiko Bajzat from Listowel’s award winning Wellness Bakery who kindly presented the special guests with gluten free treats along with tasty cookies for the children.
Scoil Treasa Naofa are looking forward to hosting ‘Europe Day’ on May 19th when Sean Kelly MEP will be their guest of honour. They hope to be successful in achieving a European Flag for the school on completion of the programme.
