DARTS IN PARKER’S PUB
In the weekly darts tournament in Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn on Saturday 21st November, Michelle Quirke and Phil Morris defeated John Leahy and Eoin Lynch in the Final to win the fresh turkeys. The weekly Darts Doubles Tournament will continue this Saturday night 28th November in Parker’s bar. The winners this week will again receive Fresh Turkeys. All Names in for the draw at 10.30 p.m. NO Names taken after 10.30.p.m.

WEDDING BELLS
Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Newly-Married Couple, Una Carey, daughter of Joan and Ned Carey, Portarlington, Co. Laois and Thomas Cronin son of Delia and Tom Cronin, Irrebeg, Lixnaw, who were married on Saturday 21st November in St. Mary’s Church, Kilflynn. Fr Maurice Brick officiated at the beautiful ceremony. The best man was Padraig Cronin, and the groomsman was Ian Maunsell and Matron of honour was Pauline Carey and The Bridesmaid was Ellen Casey.
A Guard of Honour was provided outside the church by Thomas’s Crotta hurling club-mates A large crowd of family and friends attended the wedding ceremony and afterwards the wedding reception, which was held in Ballygarry House Hotel and Spa, Tralee. A great day and night, was had by all in attendance. The newly married couple will reside in Irrebeg, Lixnaw. We wish Una and Thomas many happy years of married life together

CROTTA HURLING LOTTO RESULTS
Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn was the venue for the Crotta Hurling Club Lotto weekly Jackpot draw, on Monday 23rd November. The four numbers picked out of the drum by Independent Observer: Nora O’Leary, Knocknahilla, Kilflynn were 17, 21,23 and 28.
However no one came up with the correct combination of numbers and the Jackpot survived for another week. The Lucky dip prizes winner each receives €35: Niamh Lynch, Rae, Kilflynn, Mike O‘Connell, Rae, Kilflynn and Liz McCarthy, C/o Foley’s Shop, Lixnaw. The next draw will take place in Herbert’s bar, Kilflynn on Monday 30th November, with a Jackpot of €8,600.

ALL-IRELAND MEDAL PRESENTATION

A huge crowd attended this unique Medal presentation for the victorious Kerry Minor and Under 21 All-Ireland Hurling teams at the Earl of Desmond Hotel on Friday night 20th November The County Board served up an excellent night with former Kerry stalwart Johnny Culloty making the presentation to the victories minor squad and Munster Council Vice Chairman, Sean Walsh presenting the medals to the victorious Kerry Under 21 squad
Crotta Players to receive Minor Medals were: Sean Weir and Shane Nolan were members of The Kerry Minor hurling Team who defeated Westmeath in the All-Ireland Minor HC 'B' final and Crotta hurlers to receive u-21 Medals were: Shane Nolan , Philip Twomey, Matt Lynch, Jonathan Caffrey, Darren Twomey, Richard Nolan and Paul Costello were members of the victorious Kerry U-21 hurling Team, who won the All-Ireland under 21 'B' hurling title, with a 2-18, 1-15 victory over Roscommon. It was a great achievement for Shane Nolan who played on both victories Kerry teams. Congratulations and Well done to the Crotta players who received their medals.

INDOOR HURLING LEAGUE
The Green Road. Side will play the N69 team in the Crotta five a side indoor Senior hurling league on Thursday 26th November at 8.00 p.m in the St. Senan's Sports hall, Moutcoal. And There is loads of viewing space overhead in the hall for spectators, so come along.

HARTY CUP
The 2007/2008 All-Ireland Champions De La Salle, Waterford were made fight every inch of their way for their 2-12 to 2-9 victory over Kerry Colleges at CIT Grounds in Cork on Wednesday 18th November. A lucky goal in the last few minutes of play by De La Salle full back Aidan Walsh broke the Kerry side's hearts . The Crotta hurling club was well represented on the Kerry Colleges team by Sean Weir who had a very good game at midfield.

SANTA CLAUS TO VISIT KILFLYNN

SHANNOW FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE
The Shannow Family Resource Centre is a relatively new centre which is housed in the Cloisters, Abberdorney. Providing services such as:
· Information advice and support to families and the community as a whole
· Practical assistance to community groups such as training, information advice and photocopying services
· Education courses
· Assistance in setting up various groups, for example lone parents support groups, women’s and men’s groups, carer support, Alzheimer support group disability and parenting alone support groups etc.
In order for us to provide the best possible service to the community we need to hear from you!!
We are currently running the following courses/classes:
K.E.S Over 55’s FREE Computer Classes
Basic Computer Class for over 55’s FREE
Tuesdays: 10:30am-12:30pm, 7:00pm-9:00pm
Wednesdays: 7:00pm -9:00pm
Age Action Ireland is also running FREE basic computer classes in the centre for people over the age of 55. The aim of the course is to make people more comfortable using computers. Class sizes are small with one volunteer trainer for every couple of students. These classes will be run in a way that ensures participants have some fun as well as learn a valuable new skill.
Keep Fit Classes:
Tuesday Evenings Commencing Tue 3rd November 7:30pm-8:30pm, €25 for 6 weeks. Now taking names for future classes.
Boxercise Classes:
Friday mornings 10:30-11:30 €4 per class
Boxercise classes are a fun related, non contact exercise class, they are a very effective way to keep fit, improve coordination and stamina and have some fun along the way!.

low Cost Counselling Service . The Shannow Family Resource Centre has a student counsellor, Juliette Moynihan, on placement within the centre. As part of Juliette’s final year of study she will be providing low cost confidential counselling to people in our catchment area. Juliette has vast experience of working in the arena of social care and will be available for appointment from the beginning of October onwards. Kerry Families for Drug Users Support Network will be operating from our centre on Tuesday Mornings. Which offer a free private and confidential counselling service for families affected by drug abuse Contact Christine on 085 7788027 for appointment.
The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland is planning to run a Support Group, for family and loved ones of people with Alzheimer’s or other forms of Dementia. The Support Group will provide Information, Advice, Support and an opportunity to meet other people in a similar position to you. The group will hold their meetings in the Shannow Family Resource Centre on a day and a time that suits the need of the group.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR
Na Leanaí Childcare Centre will be holding a Christmas Bazaar on Sunday, 6th December, 2009 from 3pm to 7pm in the Local Sports Hall, Causeway. Admission: €5 per Adult, this includes your name in for the Door prize of a 1,000 Litres of Heating Oil. Children are free on the day. Lots of fun and games on the day with Auctions, Bake Sale, Book and DVD Sale and Flower Arrangements. Garry Coffey, Institute of Technology Taekwon-Do club, Tralee and Wayne Murphy, Garrynagore, Kilflynn and of Institute of Technology Taekwon-Do club, with their prizes at Irish CupTaekwon-do on Sunday November 15th, in the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght, Dublin

TAEKWON-DO
On Sunday November 15th, Wayne Murphy, Garrynagore, Kilflynn travelled to Dublin to participate in the Irish Cup, this competition is billed as the biggest event in The Ireland Taekwon-do calendar, Wayne representing The Institute of Technology Tralee, where he is a 3rd year student, after several hard fights, Wayne got through to the final, where he was narrowly defeated on points, but to take second in this competition is no mean feat, also competing was Garry Coffey, also The Institute of Technology Tralee who went all the way to take first place in sparring, on behalf of their instructor and students from both Kilflynn and Tralee Taekwon-Do Schools who were very Happy for what they achieved. Taekwon-Do classes continue every Saturday in St.Columbas Centre, Kilflynn from 4.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

KILFLYNN DEFIBRILLATOR GROUP
The defibrillator/CPR courses held in St Columbas Centre, Kilflynn on Wednesday 11th and Saturday 14th November had a full attendance and the course feed back from the participants was excellent. The 30-chest compression plus 2 breath is now the national standard for CPR. So, we now have 16 trained AED volunteers in our community. This is an excellent skill to have in our parish, well done to all involved. Don’t forget that this course will be available again in the future. The AED is stored in an external cabinet on the left hand side of the front entrance of St Mary’s Church. The newly married couple will reside in Tralee but Claire and Eamonn are no strangers to Kilflynn.

ABBEYDORNEY GOLF SOCIETY
The Society held its last Singles outing of the year last Saturday at the Cashen Course, Ballybunion. After all the recent rain we were blessed with a lovely sunny day, with the course in excellent condition. Our thanks to Ballybunion for their hospitality on the day.
The presentation of prizes for this outing and the previous outing to Ceann Sibeal took place at McKenna’s Bar Abbeydorney that night where there was a good turnout of members and their partners. Our thanks to Mike McKenna and his family for their hospitality.
Results 1st John Joe Fealy (14) 34pts, 2nd Pat Ruane (14) 33pts, 3rd Brendan Keane (18) 32pts, 4th James McGrath (14) 32pts, Front Nine Jim Crowley (13) 17pts, Back Nine Fr Jack Fitzgerald (17) 18pts.
After this outing Gary Kavanagh (12) with 70pts was a very worthy winner of the Golfer of the year with Michael Barry (14) with 64pts second. Our thanks to Tim Sheehan of Kingdom Structural Steel for sponsoring the Golfer of the Year competition.
The final of the Singles Matchplay resulted in a win for Pat Ruane over Michael Barry after a very tight match which went all the way to the 18th. Our thanks to Pat Hayes Agri Contactor for sponsoring this event.

LIXNAW GOLF SOCIETY
The Cashen course in Ballybunion is the place for all members to be next Saturday , in order to play in the rescheduled final outing of the year . The first tee will be reserved from 9.20 to 11 o clock for this team event . The weather will hopefully not be as inclement , so come along , get out in the fresh air and enjoy this fine links course in the company of a few friends .The presentation of prizes for this outing and for the Ceann Sibeal event will take place at Mike McKenna's Bar on Saturday night at 10 O clock . The prestigous Golfer of the Year award , which was hotly contested this year , will also be presented on Saturday night . Be sure to come and support our host bar and acknowledge our prize winners at our final social gathering of the year .

ACTIVE RETIRED
A Meeting for the Abbeydorney/Kilflynn Active Retired group will be held in the Abbeydorney Community Hall on Wednesday 18th November, Commencing at 1.00 p.m. A meal will be served followed by Entertainment. DEATH NOTICE
The death has occurred on Tuesday, 10th November of Mary (Mai) McElligott, (née Flaherty) of Stack's Mountain, Kilflynn and of Our Lady of Fatima Home, Tralee. Peacefully, Mary (Mai), beloved wife of the late Sean Bill and dear mother of John Paul, Bridget, Tom, Michael, Willie, Margaret and the late Fr. Jim. She will be sadly missed by her loving family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, nieces, relatives and many friends. Rest In Peace
Removal tomorrow, Wednesday evening, 11th November at 7.30pm from The Gleasure Funeral Home, to St. Mary's Church, Kilflynn. Requiem Mass on Thursday morning at 11am. Interment afterwards in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Kilflynn .

The results of the annual long bird competition held at Parker's Bar, Kilflynn on 1st November 2009 for the Amalgamation Cup were:
1st Pat McKenna 38 ½ inches
2nd John Thornton 38 inches
3rd Diarmuid McKenna 36 ¾ inches
The committee would like to thank all members who participated and Mike and Geraldine Parker for a fantastic night had by all.
Finally, the club successfully won the Kerry Regional Game Council’s Vermin Competition, for the second year in succession, which is a fantastic achievement for all members involved.

KILFLYNN DEFIBRILLATOR GROUP
CPR and Defibrillator (AED) courses will take place at St Columba's Centre, Kilflynn on this Wednesday 11th November and Saturday 14th November 2009. There will be one course of six participants on the Wednesday evening and there will be two courses of six participant on the Saturday , time slots course 1 commencing at 10 am and course 2 commencing at 2pm . Course slot times will be allotted on a first come basis. Course cost is €10 per participant with the balance paid by the Kilflynn Defibrillator Group. CROTTA HURLING LOTTO RESULTS
Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn was the venue for the Crotta Hurling Club Lotto weekly Jackpot draw, on Monday 9th November. The four numbers picked out of the drum by Independent Observer: Eileen Brennan, Rae, Kilflynn were 10, 19,20 and 26.
However no one came up with the correct combination of numbers and the Jackpot survived for another week. The Lucky dip prizes winner each receives €35: Tom Walsh, Rae, Kilflynn, Tim O’Halloran, Kilflynn and Susan Dillane, Abbeydorney. SPEEDY RECOVERY
Members and officers of the Crotta hurling club join me in wishing a speedy recovery to club joint president and lotto ticket seller, Brendan Neenan, Crotta, Kilflynn, who is just after a recent hip operation at Kerry General hospital. We are delighted to hear that the job has been done and has been successful and we all look forward to his speedy return to good health and his return to the club where he keeps us all on our toes.

ACORN LIFE COUNTY U21 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINALS
The recent spate of bad weather, there were no playable pitches available for the County U-21 Semi finals, Crotta were due to play Kilmoyley on Saturday 7th November in Abbeydorney at 2:00p.m. In the other Semi Final, Kenmare were due to play St. Brendans in Dr Crokes pitch, Killarney also on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Both matches were postponed Due to the inclement weather. No new dates were fixed for the games at the time of going to print, check with officers.

TABLE QUIZ
The Kilflynn Cancer Support Fund are presently organising the Sixth annual Table Quiz in aid of Chemotherapy Services in Tralee General Hospital, and Cork University Hospital. The quiz will be held in Parker’s and Herbert’s Bars Kilflynn, on Monday 28th December, and Once again the man with the questions is John O’Flaherty and he is sure to produce some very thought provoking questions. There will be an abundance of fine spot prizes to be won in the raffle and a very valuable prize to be won on the night and The quiz will kick off at 9 00.p.m. Put Monday 28th of December into to the Diary now.

Congratulations to John Griffin, Lixnaw who was on the Irish team that played Scotland in the International Shinty series last recently in Scotland. Ireland won by 1-11 to 1-8.

CAMOGIE
Congratulations to Megan Weir, Kilflynn who received her Feile na nGael All Ireland u14 medal at the Ballyroe Hotel on Friday night 30th October. She was presented with her medal by Kerry County Board Hurling Coaching officer Maurice Leahy. Megan played at Full Forward on the successful Kerry team who were crowned All Ireland Camogie champions in Tullamore on Sunday 21st June 2009.

WEDDING BELLS
Congratulations and best wishes to Mitchel McAuliffe, son of the Rita and the late Mitchel McAuliffe, Cloghers, Lixnaw and Caroline OíSullivan, daughter of John Michael and Peggy O’Sullivan, Ardfert on their recent marriage. We wish Mitchel and Caroline many happy years of married life together.

ABBEYDORNEY GOLF SOCIETY
The society will hold an outing this Saturday 14th November on the Cashen Course, Ballybunion. This is an excellent course so a large turnout is expected. The tee is booked between 9:30am and 11:30am. Presentation of prizes for this outing and the previous outing at Ceann Sibeal will take place that night. This is the final counting event in the Tim Sheehan sponsored Golfer of the Year competition. The leader at this stage is Gary Kavanagh.
The postponed final of the Pat Hayes Sponsored Society singles matchplay between Pat Ruane and Michael Barry will also be played on Saturday.

DEATH NOTICE
The death has occurred of Noreen Landers, (née O'Brien) of O'Rahilly's Villas, Tralee, and formerly of Clounafineela,Kilflynn. Peacefully. Beloved wife of the late Tim (Roundy) and dear mother of Kay (Weir-Scotland), Helen (Fitzgibbon), Tim, Garry (London) and the late John Joe, devoted grandmother to Robbie, Caroline, Alan and Francis, Emma, Tadhg and James, Zhaia and Steve and mother-in-law of John, Liz, Mandy and the late Frank. She will be sadly missed by her loving family, nephews, nieces, relatives, Gary Marcham, neighbours and many friends.

KILFLYNN DEFIBRILLATOR GROUP
CPR and Defibrillator (AED) courses will take place at St Columba's Centre on the following dates: On Wednesday November the 11th and Saturday 14th November 2009. There will be one course of six participants on the Wednesday evening and there will be two courses of six participant on the Saturday , time slots course 1 commencing at 10 am and course 2 commencing at 2pm . Course slot times will be allotted on a first come basis. Course cost is €10 per participant with the balance paid by the Kilflynn Defibrillator Group.
