COUNTY TITLE FOR MINOR HURLERS
Lixnaw/Crotta secured the County Minor hurling shield in Lerrig last Saturday 20th October, following their six point win over Ballyheigue, 4-9 to 3-6 in a fairly entertaining final at times. The pitch in Lerrig was in great condition in spite of the heavy rainfall which fell in the few days leading up to the final. Both teams struggled early to get any kind of momentum going and it took five minutes to open the scoring which came in the form of pointed Shane Dunne free. It took another five minutes before the outstanding Brendan Brosnan equalised from a long range free. Further points from Tomas O’Keeffe and Brendan Brosnan gave Lixnaw /Crotta a 3-1 lead but two Shane Dunne points kept Ballyheigue in the hunt. Ricky Heffernan fired over a neat point to give Lixnaw /Crotta a slender lead but Ballyheigue pressed strongly and were rewarded with a good goal. Lixnaw /Crotta refused to panic and points from Brendan Brosnan ‘65 and Ricky Heffernan levelled the match 1-3 to 0-6. Lixnaw /Crotta opened a three point gap going into the break with a Ricky Heffernan goal right on the button. Ballyheigue had the better of the opening second half exchanges, their bright start helped them engineer a fortuitous goal from a Shane Dunne sixty yard free which went all the way to the Lixnaw /Crotta net. Sean Weir restored his sides lead with a point from play but Ballyheigue again quickly cancelled it out. Mid way through the half Lixnaw /Crotta were given fresh hope when Jason Wallace, following a great save from the Ballyheigue goalie, slipped in for a crucial goal. Brendan Brosnan added a point from a free before Sean Weir capitalised on his move to the full forward position with Lixnaw /Crotta third goal to open up a 3-8 to 2-4 gap. The same played stretched the advantage with a point before sub Gavin O’Connor sealed the issue for Lixnaw /Crotta with a low drive to the corner of the Ballyheigue net with his very first touch. Credit to Ballyheigue though, they fought to the very end and reduced the arrears to six points with their third goal. They went for broke from a twenty one yard free in the final minute but Cathal McCarthy in the Lixnaw /Crotta goal was equal to it bringing off a brilliant double save before clearing his lines and closing the game out in the process. Referee Tom Godley blew it all up at this stage for game, set and match. After the game Hurling Officer Joe Walshe on behalf of the Kerry County board presented the trophy to Lixnaw /Crotta captain Brendan Brosnan.
Scorers; Ricky Heffernan; 1-2. Sean Weir; 1-2. Brendan Brosnan; 0-4. Jason Wallace; 1-0. Gavin O’Connor; 1-0. Tomas O’Keeffe; 0-1.

ALL SOULS
The Church has honoured with great respect the memory of the dead and because it is a holy and a wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be loosed from their sins she offers her suffrages for them. These consist in the celebration of the holy sacrifice of the Eucharist and in other pious exercises, such as prayers for the dead, alms deeds, works of mercy and the application of indulgences to the souls of the departed.
INDULGENCES
1. From 12 o’clock noon on 1st Nov. until midnight on 2nd Nov. all who have confessed, received Holy Communion and prayed for the Pope’s intentions (one Our Father, and Hail Mary, or any other prayer of one’s choice) can gain one plenary indulgence by visiting a church or oratory and there reciting one Our Father and the Apostle’s Creed. This indulgence is applicable only to the souls of the departed. Confession may be made at any time within the week preceding or the week following 1st Nov. Holy Communion may be received on any day from 1st to 8th November.
2. The faithful who visit a cemetery and pray for the dead may gain a plenary indulgence applicable only to the Holy Souls on the usual conditions once per day from 1st to 8th November. The conditions mentioned above apply also for this.
