SENANS U-12 FOOTALL
North Kerry Under 12 Football Championship Division 2 quarter final replay, at Mountcoal, on Sunday 12th October. St. Senan’s 2-15 and Finuge 2-08.
After drawing Senan’s 2-04 to Finuge 4-01 the previous weekend another close contest was envisaged and twenty minutes in the first half it was six points a piece, but for the remainder of the half Finuge struck for two goals and 1 point to give them a 2-07 to 0-06 lead at half time.
A superb second half display saw Senan’s score 2-09 to Finuge’s 0-01, to give them an 8 point victory at the finish.
North Kerry Under 12 Football Championship Division 2 Semi Final, at Ballyduff on Sunday 19th October. St. Senan’s 1-06 and Beale 1-06.
In a tightly contested game scores were hard to come by with a gale force wind making conditions hard to kick scores. Senan’s playing with the wind in the first half led by six points to Beale’s 1-01 at half time. A two point lead at half time did not seem sufficient against the gale and the strong centre Beale midfield, But with the backs working hard, centrefield and the forwards fighting for every ball, the vital score a goal from Cathal Kennelly pushed Senan’s into a two point lead with nine minutes remaining. However Beale tacked two points to level the game. Senan’s team: D.Kennelly, S. O’Donnell, D. Brosnan, A. Mahony, E.O’ Connell, G. Galvin, Tom McElligott, A.Kelly, C.Kennelly, B.Keane, C. Mc Kenna, D. Behan, and Paul Kerins. Subs used: R. Nolan, and D. Regan. Other Subs: C. Browne, S. Gleasure, P. Logue, S. Healy and C. Stack.

The Local community was saddened to hear of the untimely death of Eugie Canty on Sunday 17th August , 2008, after a long illness borne with dignity and bravery. Eugie was member of an old established Crotta family which gave it’s name to the local cross, had spent the greater part of his life living in Garrynagore before moving to work in Limerick. Consequently he took up residence in Ennis where he remained up to the time of his death.
Eugie never forgot his roots and felt duty bound to travel home for important occasions - whether Bereavements or celebrations. In keeping with others along that road, Eugie was raised on a diet of hurling and only had to cross the ditch to reach the old Crotta hurling field at Nedeens or walk the quarter of a mile over the road to stack’s . It was there Eugie homed his skills and developed his talent which were inherited from his father Tom - the local Blacksmith- who had also starred for Crotta and Kerry hurlers.
Eugie’s commitment to Crotta and the G.A.A was immense and he is remembered as a player, administrator and referee. His playing career with Crotta spanned four decades - starting in 1959 with the wining of the under 14 county championship and ending as goalie in the 1986 County Senior final against Ardfert. Like so many of his peers Eugie was unfortunate to be on the losing side in two County Minor Final in 1963 and 1964 as well as being on the losing side in the County Senior finals of 1972,1979 and 1986.
It was one of his greatest regrets that he was unavailable for 1968 victories Crotta campaign. However some compensation was to fallen when he had the distinction of winning an All-Ireland Junior medal with Kerry hurlers in 1972 as a half back.
As a hurler, Eugie was unique in that he was equally at home in goals or out the field. A natural half back, his fast reflexes, allied to his brilliant stick work and speed marked him apart.

Crotta were defeated by St.Brendan's Ardfert in the final on the 3-11 to 2-04 scoreline on Sunday 14th September.

During the 70s Eugie was secretary of the club and here again we see his attention to detail was exceptional and the reports both of meetings and games hear testimony to this.
While still playing Eugie took up refereeing for which he acquitted an excellent reputation of being fair and decisive. This was just another example of his willingness to help individuals and organisations.
Eugie a Kind, Generous, and Obliging Neighbour and a man who epitomised the passion and spirit of Crotta hurling has moved on to his eternal reward but that torch which he kept alight will carried on by his grand nephew Brandon (Conway).
He will be sadly missed by his partner Phil, his children Thomas, Caroline, Eoin and Loretto, sisters Mary, Margaret, Bridget and Kathleen, granddaughter, son-in-law, brothers-in-law, extended family and large circle of friends, to whom we offer our sincere sympathy. Rest in peace.

CROTTA U-8 NEWS
Last Monday night week our under 8 team travelled to play Abbeydorney in Abbeydorney in a challenge match. It was a ten a side match and ten mins each half. Barry Sheehan of Abbeydorney refereed the match very fairly. It was a very good contest throughout with Crotta holding the upperhand for the majority of the match. Following a foul on Aodhan McKenna, Darragh O'Donoghue goaled for Crotta from the resultant free. Crotta had most of the possession in the first half and a combination of a strong wind and the fact that their midfield of Darragh O'Donoghue and Sean Murnane were dominant meant that the forwards had a constant supply of ball. A resolute O’dorney defence held out to leave the half time score Crotta 1-00 Abbeydorney 0-00. Despite now facing the breeze Crotta maintained their grip on the game and a combination of the midfield duo worked the ball to Aodhan McKenna who finished sweetly to the net. The backs never really were put under any kind of pressure and the final score was Crotta 2-00 Abbeydorney 0-00.
Team: Darragh Reen, James Sheehan, Eamon Ronan, Darragh Murnane, Edith White, Darragh ODonoghue, Sean Murnane, Declan ODonoghue, Aodhan McKenna, Denis Nolan, Killian Trant, Aodhan Behan. All players played very well considering they had not played a competitive game for a while.

CROTTA U-10 NEWS
Our under 10 team played in Abbeydorney the same evening as the U8 team. This match was for the benefit of the lads who did not play much hurling in the blitz in June and July. Abbeydorney started the brighter and had two points scored in as many minutes. Crotta took a while to settle but gradually came in the match. A Sean ODonoghue shot went all the way to the net to leave the half-time score Crotta 1-00 Abbeydorney 0-02. Crotta started the second half well and following good work by Jack Mckenna, Darragh Sheehan raised a green flag. Dominic Nolan, Dylan McElligott and John Quilter were hurling well in the full back line and Barry Mahony was impressive in goals. Jack McKenna scored a nice point and this was then followed by a scrambled goal. Abbeydorney replied with a point by Niall Mahony. Final score Crotta 3-01 Abbeydorney 0-03Team: Barry Mahony, John Quilter, Dominic Nolan, Dylan McElligott, Mark Egan, Jack McKenna, Tiernan Ball, Adam O'Sullivan, Darragh Sheehan, Brian OConnor. Subs: Darragh Clarke for T Ball, Aaron Murnane for J McKenna, Sean O'Donoghue for Mark Egan, Darragh Behan for Brian O'Connell, Nathan Fahy for D McElligott.

UNDER 11 HURLING BLITZ
Crotta under 11 team took part in a under 11 blitz in Kilorglin last Saturday. Teams were seven a side so it was decided to take two teams, Crotta 1 and Crotta 2. Other teams to take part were Kilmoyley, Ardfert, Dr Crokes, Laune Rangers, Kilgarvan. Crotta 1 and Crotta 2 got to play nine matches in total and the hurling was of a very high standard.
Crotta 1 finished in the top two in the group at the final stages and as both top teams and second placed team got medals it proved to be a very successful day. All players got a chance to play a lot of game time and this will give them great experience. Crotta 1's matches against Kilgarvan and Dr Crokes were great matches. Crotta scored a last minute goal to beat Kilgarvan and conceeded a last second goal to Crokes to lose by two points. The results were as follows Ardfert 3-01 Crotta (2)2-00, Crotta(1) 4-01 laune Rangers 0-00, Crotta (2) 0-01 Kilmoyley 1-01, Kilgarvan 3-01, Crotta(2) 2-02, Crotta(1) 5-00 Ardfert 1-01,Crotta(1) 2-03 Kilgarvan 2-01, Crotta (2) 0-03, Laune Rangers 0-00, Dr Crokes 2-03 Crotta (2) 0-01, Dr Crokes 2-02 Crotta (1) 1-03.
All players played very well on the day. Darragh Kennelly was probably the most consistent player through out the blitz. Brandon Conway and Sean ODonoghue played great hurling linking up very well. Adam O'Sullivan came out field and scored a wonderful line ball. Danny Quinlan played great hurling and helped himself to two goals. Darragh Ryan made a few outstanding catches. David Behan and Dominic Nolan displayed how to mark tightly and play hard but fair hurling. Bill Keane has really improved throughout the year and scored 1-02 in one match. Adrian Mahony scored a great long distance point against Dr Crokes. Barry Mahony, Jordan Conway, Darragh Regan, Raymond Nolan all showed glimpses of class. Jamie OSullivan was under alot of pressure in team 2 but played really well. Aaron Murnane and Nathan Fahy will have benefited from playing so many matches and it showed as the day went on.
Scorers on the day were Darragh Regan, Adrian Mahony, Raymond Nolan, Jordan Conway, Sean O'Donoghue, Barry Mahony, Brandon Conway, James O'Sullivan, Darragh Kennelly, Bill Keane, Adam O'Sullivan and Danny Quinlan. The following players made up the panel on the day but were in more defensive positions: Darragh Ryan, David Behan, Dominic Nolan, Nathan Fahy and Aaron Murnane.
Medals will be presented at a later date. Well done again to all who took part and thanks to Mike Sullivan and the Laune Rangers Club for inviting us.
The reporter that writes these underage hurling reports has been on holidays recently but will report on Div 1 under 11 matches and the U12 final and replay next week
