EDDIE HAYES HURLING TOURNAMENT
On Saturday 26th September 2009 the 9th Annual Eddie Hayes Ground Hurling Tournament was held in the Crotta Sportsfield Dromakee, Kilflynn. It was a beautiful day for it and the pitch was in excellent condition for this ground hurling tournament. A total of 8 teams took part. Crotta and Ardfert had two teams, Dr Crokes, Kenmare/Kilgarvan, Abbeydorney and Ballyheigue made up the two groups of four. As Lixnaw and Causeway won "A" trophies this year at U12 level they were the only teams not invited. Ballyduff, Kilmoyley and Duagh failed to send teams to the tournament. Each team played one another and at the end of these games Crotta and Kenmare/Kilgarvan qualified for the final. After a pulsating match Kenmare/Kilgarvan emerged victorious on the final scoreline of 2-00 to 0-01. It was a match that could have gone anyway but the South Kerry men took the chances that came their way. Afterwards Crotta Coiste na Nog Chairman Sonny Egan presented the Eddie Hayes memorial cup to the winning captain, John Mark Foley. Sonny thanked all clubs that attended. He thanked the ladies committee for providing food and drinks for players, mentors, parents and supporters. He thanked John Ross (Ballyduff) Referee for the day and all who helped in any way in making the day such a great success. Finally he thanked the Hayes family for their continued sponsorship of this successful tournament. Sonny should be thanked also for organising the tournament and ensuring the smooth running of everything on the day. Thanks also to Tom Nolan, caretaker on the FAS CE scheme for having the two pitches lined, flagged and in excellent condition.
