CROTTA COISTE NA NOG NEWS
The Crotta U12 team travelled to Kilgarvan last Sunday morning, 9th October and were fortunate enough to maintain their unbeaten record. It was a tough physical battle in misty conditions and it wasn't going to be an easy match as we had seen that Kilgarvan were very good two years ago U10. Crotta had a narrow one point lead at half time thanks to a Dominic Nolan goal which was deflected past the Kilgarvan keeper. Dominic also pointed a free after he was fouled himself. Barry Mahony pointed from play and a free in that first half as well. Half Time Crotta 1-03 Kilgarvan 0-05. The arrival of Jeaic McKenna seemed to steady the ship and Dominic Nolans switch to midfield to partner him gave Crotta more dominance around that sector. Barry Mahony was dominating thehalf back line and this provided a spring board for Crotta attacks. It was score for score throughout that second half but when Kilgarvan took a two point lead another deflected goal following a free by Mahony put the lads in Green and Red apoint to the good. Darragh O'Donoghue was coming more in to the game and he scored a goal and a point to increase Crotta's lead. Kilgarvan fought back and went a point up with four mins remaining. However Barry Mahony kept his nerve with two long range frees to score two points to give Crotta victory. Paudie Randles was referee for the match and was fair throughout. John Quilter Barry Mahony Dominic Nolan Jeaic McKenna and Darragh o'Donoghue were best for Crotta on the day. Panel as follows John Quilter Brian o'Connell Darragh Murnane Barry Mahony(1-03) Darragh Behan Adam o'Sullivan Donal Hunt Darragh O'Donoghue(1-01) Sean Murnane Aaron Murnane Doninic Nolan(1-02) Pairic Shanahan Eamonn Shanahan Jeaic McKenna.
Crotta U12 team will now play Causeway in a top of the table clash this Friday evening in Dromakee at 5.30pm. We wish Donal Hunt a speedy recovery from a hand injury sustained in Kilgarvan. We wish our Senior team all the best in Sunday's County Final and we ask all Underage players to wear the Club colours on Sunday.

4th October 2011

NORTH KERRY TITLE FOR CROTTA U-14 HURLERS
Congratulations and well done to the Crotta U14 team who won the Michael Hennessy Memorial trophy on Monday evening, 4th October in Lerrig. Crotta beat Causeway in another pulsating match. The first match ended in a draw but at the end of 60 mins of hurling Crotta triumphed on the scoreline of Crotta 2-11 Causeway 2-05.
The saying goes that you have to lose a final to really appreciate a championship win, but this victory was all the more sweeter as this current panel of players had lost in three finals previously at U12(two) and U13. This team had an U10 'B' and u12 'B' trophies to their name. The point I am trying to make is that with great commitment from Players, Coaches, Parents and all committee members of the club anything is possible. In two years these lads have turned in to a really solid, skilful bunch of players.
The match started where it had ended last week with two teams giving their all. Darragh Regan pointed a thirty metre free to open the scoring. Causeway equalised shortly after and then David Behan scored a marvellous point after he had fashioned an opening for himself. Regan again pointed from a free but Causeway hit back with a point from a placed ball. That pointed free was Crotta's last score of the half whereas Causeway pointed from play and before that, scored a fortuitous goal. A shot that Goalkeeper Brandon Conway had covered but it took a wicked deflection to end up in the opposite corner of the net. The five minutes before half time yielded no score and Crotta went in at half time having the majority of the play but trailing on the scoreline of Crotta 0-03 Causeway 1-03.
The second half was only five minutes old and Crotta had reduced the deficit to a single point. The introduction of Cathal Keane was to prove a turning point as he scored a point immediately, and seemed to jizz up the rest of the attack. David Behan was storming into the game at mid field and gathering allot of breaking ball which he was putting to good use. Adrian Mahony was proving to be a pivotal player and his driving runs and all round power play was forcing Causeway on the back foot. Anything that did pass him was immediately mopped up by the outstanding duo Barry Mahony and Darragh Ryan. The forwards who constantly were re jigged by the mentors were really starting to put moves together and causing the Causeway backs all sorts of problems. Mid way through the second half Crotta lead by 1-07 to 1-03. The crucial score came from Colin Browne who had a great match. He grabbed a high ball from a Jordan Conway who was very influential throughout the second half, and sent it towards goal and his shot deceived the Causeway keeper. Another point from the influential Keane plus two massive Darragh Regan points from play left Crotta leading by 1-09 to 1-05. Then the score that clinched the win was when a shot by Browne was saved by the Causeway keeper only to be finished by the in rushing Cathal Keane. Causeway did manage to pull a goal back to bring the margin to four points but this Crotta team was not going to be beaten and two points from play by the ever improving Raymond Nolan and substitute Cathal Keane stretched the lead to six. Shortly after referee John Ross blew the final whistle. Joyous scenes greeted the final whistle and it was great to see so many supporters following the team. When Crotta needed the lift they got great support from the stand. As well as the above mentioned all players played their part. Tom Quinlan Gearoid Galvin and Dylan McElligott all had their moments. Panel as follows Brandon Conway Dylan McElligott Darragh Ryan(Capt) Barry Mahony Darragh Kennelly Adrian Mahony Gearoid Galvin David Behan(0-01) Tom Quinlan Darragh Regan(0-04)Colin Browne(1-02) Bill Keane Raymond Nolan(0-01)Jordan Conway Sean O'Donoghue Cathal Keane(1-03)Dominic Nolan Brian O'Connell Shane O'Neill Adam O'Sullivan John Quilter Donnacha Brosnan Sean Cremin Darragh Dineen Jamie O'Sullivan. This panel has beaten Lixnaw and Causeway(two of the best U14 teams in the County) on their way so no one can begrudge them this win. After the game, North Kerry Coiste na nOg, Secretary Gerard Hannafin,
presented The Michael Hennessy Memorial trophy to Crotta’s victories captain, Darragh Ryan. Well done to the Causeway team and their mentors who very sporting during and after the game.
