THE GATHERING
On Friday evening last (10th October) the parishioners involved in the various ministries in Abbeydorney/Kilflynn parish had a wonderful get together in St. Columba's Centre, Kilflynn. A most pleasant time was had by all. We were able to sit down and converse about parish affairs, affairs of the nation and even beyond in a wonderful atmosphere. On behalf of all the people, in the different ministries that help to make Abbeydorney/Kilflynn a vibrant parish, I would like to thank Fr. Denis and the members of the P.P.C. for organising the event. A big thank you to all the bakers, cooks, tea and coffee makers for providing a wonderful spread of food. Our parish is a vibrant community; it also needs more volunteers to help in the various ministries whether it be Eucharistic Ministers, Readers, Collectors, Cleaners or other parish committees. On a personal basis, it is a wonderful feeling to be of some service to my church and my neighbours in Abbeydorney/Kilflynn parish and also to serve God in a very small way. (Gerard Doyle, N.T.)

THE LATE NED BREEN
Ned Breen late of Knocknacaska, Kilflynn, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday 30th September. Born on the 24th January, 1922, his life spanned over nine decades. Married to Tess (nee O’Rourke) RIP, together they raised six children.
Ned had a lot of interests over his long and active life but he was first and foremost a family man. Himself and Tess worked side by side on their family farm, milking cows and feeding calves, etc. He was a very progressive farmer and one of the first farmers to knock ditches and build roadways in the 70’s. He was also part of the great Laccamore Tug of War Team which included MJ Breen, Tom Breen, Michael Slattery, Victor Hayes, all of whom have departed from this life.
He was very well read and loved John B Keane, Maeve Binchy and anything to do with politics. While he admired politicians from most parties, he was a true blue Fine Gael supporter all his life. Not a man for the pub but he loved to socialise with his many neighbours and friends. He had a great sense of humour and loved to tell a good story. Ned a past pupil of St Teresa’s N.S Kilflynn had the honour of raising the School's first green flag, at a special ceremony in June 2014. Ned's remains were removed from Gleasure's Funeral Home, Tralee to St. Mary's Church, Kilflynn on Thursday evening 2nd October, Following Requiem Mass celebrated by Fr. Denis O'Mahony, Fr. NORTH KERRY U-16 “A” CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL REPLAY
Result: St Brendans 1-19 Crotta 2-12. Last Thursday evening 16th November, Crotta played St Brendan's in the replay of the North Kerry U16 Final in the sportsfield, Abbeydorney. The sides were level with three minutes left but a physically stronger Ardfert team came out on top in the end. Crotta received a blow before the throw in when their talisman Barry Mahony was unable to play. The team was rejigged and in fairness to the lads they gave it their all. Crotta trailed by 0-04 to 1-07 ten mins before half time their scores coming from Brandon Conway(0-02), Dylan McElligott and Colin Browne. The introduction of Eamonn Rohan at full forward immediately produced dividends when he scored a fine goal. Brandon Conway pointed a free on half time to leave the score: Crotta 1-05 St Brendans 1-07. Although Ardfert got the first score of the second half, Crotta hit a purple patch and produced their best hurling of the evening. Points from Tomas O'Connor, Colin Browne and Brandon Conway plus a well taken goal by Padraig Dillon had the lads in green and red leading by four points. Ardfert staged a come back of sorts and some long range points saw them trail by one going into the last five minutes. A fine individual score by John Quilter put Crotta two up again. This lead was erased by two pointed frees by Ardfert. An injury to Tom Quinlan who was one of Crotta's best players on the night, meant that Ardfert controlled possession for the remainder of the game which resulted in a four point defeat for Crotta. Both the original fixture and the replay were tremendous games of hurling. Crotta Players gave their all over the two games with everyone playing their part. Over the two games the Players who shone brightest were Tom Quinlan, Colin Browne, Sean O'Donoghue, Tomas O'Connor, Brian O'Connell, Darragh Behan and Dylan McElligott who captained the side. Panel as follows: Adam O'Sullivan, Darragh Behan, Tom Quinlan, Brian O'Connell, Eamonn Shanahan, Sean O'Donoghue, Darragh Kennelly, Jeaic McKenna, Tomas O'Connor, John Quilter(0-01), Dylan McElligott(Capt) (0-02), Colin Browne(0-02), Padraig Dillon(1-00), Darragh Stack, Brandon Conway(0-07), Eamonn Rohan(1-00) Dominic Nolan Donal Hunt Darragh O'Donoghue and Barry Mahony.

CROTTA COISTE NA NOG
Our U16's played Ardfert in the North Kerry U16 'A' Championship Final on Friday night 3rd October in Abbeydorney. The game itself was overshadowed by a premature ending due to an injury in extra time which resulted in a Crotta player being taken to hospital by ambulance. Tomas O'Connor accidently sustained a shoulder/neck injury. Thankfully Tomas is recovering albeit slowly but everyone in the Club and indeed all hurling followers in the County wish him well. The game itself was a tremendous tussle between two teams who have provided some much entertainment since both sides were U10. The teams bring out the best in each other and this was evident again the last evening. The teams were level at half time Crotta 0-06 Ardfert 0-06. Crotta had five points from play through Colin Browne(0-02) Dylan McElligott(0-01)Barry Mahony(0-01)and Brandon Conway. Barry Mahony also pointed a free. The evening was ok to start with but ten mins before half time a storm whipped up with strong winds and rain .The second half was score for score and Crotta's crucial score of the half was a John Quilter goal following a great run by Dylan McElligott. Ardfert again regained control of the game when another pointed free three minutes from time put them a point ahead. However almost immediately Sean O'Donoghue pointed from play to leave the scores at full time Crotta 1-08 Ardfert 0-11. Crotta panel as follows: Adam O'Sullivan, Darragh Behan, Thomas Quinlan, Brian O'Connell, Jeaic McKenna, Sean O'Donoghue(0-01), Darragh Kennelly, Paudie Dillon, Tomas O'Connor, Colin Browne(0-02), Brandon Conway, Darragh Stack, Barry Mahony (0-04), Dylan McElligott(1-00), John Quilter(1-00), Donal Hunt, Eamon Shanahan, Darragh O'Donoghue Dominic Nolan and Eamon Rohan.
Crotta Coiste na nOg would like to thank Officers, Mentors and Players from Ardfert who so sportingly helped. We would like to thank in particular Tadhg O'Sullivan Sean McCrohan, Josephine Riordan, Kathleen Quinlan and Mary McKenna and indeed all who assisted. We would like to Thank the Abbeydorney Cub for all their help as well.
