CULTURE NIGHT IN KILFLYNN
On Culture night September 16th Kilflynn Community Together had the great pleasure of hosting a lecture by well known historian retiredGarda Superintendent Donal O'Sullivan in St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn.
Mr. O'Sullivan gave wonderful description of how life was before electricity, motor cars, agricultural machinery etc. and how these innovations helped to improve the lives and living conditions for people.Indeed Mr.O'Sullivan stated that on a political level the 30 years prior to the 1916 revolution had seen more improvement for the people than the entire proceeding centuries under British rule. The relative content with British rule was shattered , not so much by the rebellion, but by the execution of its leaders. Thus set a sequence of events in motion which change the course of history in Mr.O'Sullivan's view.
Kilflynn had more participants than any other Village of its size and played an active part in events that followed.
Mr.O'Sullivan has written a biography of Sam Maguire and on His next visit to kilflynn we hope to have a full lecture on the life of the west Cork man.
