NORTH KERRY TITLE FOR CROTTA U-15 HURLERS
Crotta U15 hurlers were crowned North Kerry U15 Champions on Sunday 23rd September in Abbeydorney when they recorded a nine point victory over our old rivals Lixnaw. Thanks to the Abbeydorney Club for having the pitch in excellent condition which contributed to a very good game of hurling. Crotta were the much better team all through (but for a ten minute period before half time which yielded Lixnaw 1-02) and deserved to come out on top. At full time Crotta had sixteen scores(1-15) to Lixnaw's five scores(2-03) which gives a better indication of the way the match panned out.
Crotta settled the quicker and Brandon Conway pointed the first three frees following fouls on himself, Sean O'Donoghue and Raymond Nolan. Crotta's backs were playing very well at this stage and were repelling everything that Lixnaw threw at them. Darragh O'Regan in goals was very assured, Darragh Ryan was dominating the square and both Dylan McElligott and especially Kieran Lyons were to the fore.
David Behan was very influential at centre back and as usual Barry Mahony was mopping up every break. Adrian Mahony was a power house at midfield and was very industrious throughout. It took Lixnaw 19 minutes to register their first score such was the dominance of the Crotta rearguard. Having said that the Lixnaw defence was very much on top as well with only centre forward Colin Browne getting the better of his marker. Colin won a lot of puck outs and shipped a fair bit of punishment but he was involved in most of Crotta's best moves.
Following Lixnaw's opening point they quickly followed with another point, and then a goal to leave the score at Crotta 0-06 Lixnaw 1-02. Crotta had the last two scores of the half when a point from play plus one from a free by Brandon Conway, left Crotta ahead by three points. Darragh Kennelly and Brandon Conway both had gilt edged chances for goals but failed to hit the net in that first half.
Cathal Keane replaced Darragh Kennelly at half time and again Cathal proved his value to the team with a point from play immediately after the restart. Crotta completely took over at this stage especially the midfield area where Adrian Mahony and Colin Browne were dominant. Raymond Nolan(0-02) and Jordan Conway(0-01) who had now got the measure of their markers, tacked on three more points. Lixnaw who were surviving on scraps at this stage struck for another goal following a bit of sloppy play in the Crotta full back line. Crotta heads did not drop though and again they kept the scoreboard ticking over with two frees from Brandon Conway and a lovely Raymond Nolan point from play. Cathal Keane ended the game as a contest seven minutes from time when he rifled the roof of the Lixnaw net from a tight angle as he made his way in from the left wing. A fine point from play from Brandon Conway plus a free by the same player concluded the scoring. Referee Tim Hannifin (Ardfert) who incidentally refereed the match sensibly throughout, sounded the final whistle to scenes of great joy. Full time Crotta 1-15 Lixnaw 2-03. This panel of Players has now put North Kerry U14 (2011) and U15 (2012) Championship wins back to back which augurs well for the Club. Captain David Behan accepted the Johnny Hussey Memorial shield on behalf of the Crotta Club from Mikey Leahy, Chairman of North Kerry Hurling Coiste Na nOg. David thanked the Abbeydorney GAA Club, Referee Tim Hanafin, Crotta mentors Brendan Mahony , Paul O'Donoghue, Martin Conway and Dermot Ryan and called for three cheers for Lixnaw. All players on the Panel played their part in getting the team to the Final.
The winning panel was as follows: Darragh Regan, Dylan McElligott, Darragh Ryan, Barry Mahony, Tom Quinlan, David Behan(Capt) Kieran Lyons, Adrian Mahony, Raymond Nolan (0-3), Bill Keane, Colin Browne, Sean O'Donoghue, Darragh Kennelly, Brandon Conway (0-10), Jordan Conway (0-01) Cathal Keane(1-01), Darragh Dineen, Adam O'Sullivan, Brian O'Connell, Gearoid Galvin, Dominic Nolan, Niall O'Sullivan, Jeaic McKenna, John Quilter, Darragh Stack and Darragh O'Donoghue. Tomas O'Connor is also a member of the panel but missed the game due to illness and we wish him a speedy recovery. Thanks to our Sponsors Prim's Restaurant, Kilflynn for getting food ready for the Players at such short notice, after the game. Thanks to all the fantastic supporters who came out to cheer on the lads in Green and Red.

NATIONAL SCHOOL RE-OPENS
St. Teresa's National School, Kilflynn reopened, after the summer holidays on Thursday 30th August. While the weather had not been too kind I’m sure that many of the children were looking forward to being back with their friends again.
Back in June it seemed like September and back to school time was a long way off. But it has arrived and to most children it only seems like a few weeks since they put away their school bags for the summer. For adults the back to school date signals an end to summer and all that goes with it – normality has returned.
Twenty five children commenced their education in Junior Infants in St. Teresa's N.S on Thursday. Best of luck to the children who are starting primary and post primary for the first time. This is a very special time of year for them, and one that will stay with them for many years to come. Good luck to the sixth class who will be having their last year of national education before they move into secondary school in 2013, Also best of luck to the Teachers in their new School term, Cead Mile Failte to Ciara Walsh, Tralee and Tina Enright, Listowel who have joined the teaching Staff at St. Teresa's N. S. and we wish them every success. A Cead Mile Failte to the 14 girls and 11 boys starting in Junior Infants. Muireann Hussey, Zoe McCarthy, Clodagh McNamara, Ellen McKenna, Ella Mahoney, Megan Bradley Sadie Byrne, Tieanna Sheehy, Joanne O’Sullivan, Priya O’Donovan. CROTTA COISTE NA NOG NEWS
Congratulations to the Crotta U13 Players and Mentors on winning the Rose U13 Hurling Cup “A” title on Saturday 18th August in Austin Stack Park, Tralee. Crotta played and won all their group games. They then played Tulla (Clare) in the semi final and beat them 3-06 to 2-02. Patrickswell were their opponents in the final and this was a cracking match from start to finish. Patrickswell who incidentally were the holders of the Rose Cup started the brighter and scored two points without reply. However a pointed free from Barry Mahony following a foul on Darragh O'Donoghue and two great points from play by Adam O'Sullivan gave Crotta a one point lead at half time. Patrickswell equalised just after the restart and at this point were very much on top. Crotta withstood the onslaught though with some great play by the outstanding Aaron Murnane in goals plus a defensive unit of Eamon Rohan Brian O'Connell Dominic Nolan and Darragh Behan who hurled as if their lives depended on it. John Quilter(Capt) was prominent all through and eventually he turned the tide in Crotta's favour. A brilliant piece of play by Sean Murnane and Darragh O'Donoghue who were causing all sorts of bother to their direct opponents, resulted in the Patrickswell keeper making a brilliant save which resulted in a 65. Barry Mahonys puck from the 65 went all the way to the net. An excellent point from play by Sean Murnane put Crotta four points to the good. When Darragh O'Donoghue broke through the Patrickswell defence as time ran out,he was upended as he was about to shoot. Barry Mahony once again pointed the free to complete the scoring. Final score Crotta 1-05 Patrickswell 0-03. Jubilant scenes followed the final score and well done to all. Captain John Quilter accepted the Rose Cup on behalf of Crotta . Aaron Murnane was awarded the Player of the Tournament Award. The following was the panel of Players: Aaron Murnane Dominic Nolan Daniel Quirke Darragh O'Donoghue Sean Murnane Darragh Murnane Padraig Hunt Daniel O'Rourke Brian O'Connell Cilliant Trant Tomas Dillon David O'Connell Aodhan Behan Daniel Hunt Adam O'Sullivan Barry Mahony James Sheehan Darragh Behan John Quilter Eamonn Rohan. Highlights of the tournament were Barry Mahony’s free taking, Adam O'Sullivan scoring four goals against South Kerry, Aaron Murnane's great saves, Darragh O'Donoghue's (2-02) against Tulla in the semi final, John Quilter pointing two line balls and the great defending by Crotta's backs. All panel members played their part in this great win.
Crotta U15 The Crotta U15 team are through to the North Kerry U15 Division 1 Championship Final after beating Kilmoyley in the last round of the Championship. Crotta started terribly and after 8 mins found themselves behind on a scoreline of Kilmoyley 3-03 Crotta 1-00. The team played well after that and were level at halftime. Playing with the advantage of a slight breeze there was only one team in it after the break and Crotta won on a scoreline of Kilmoyley 3-05 Crotta 8-09. scorers for Crotta Brandon Conway(3-02) Jordan Conway(3-01) Raymond Nolan(1-03)Barry Mahony (1-02) Adrian Mahony(0-01)
