#BeACTIVE
From Monday 10th- Friday 18th September, St. Teresa’s National School,Kilflynn participated in the ‘European Week of Sport’. The European Week of Sport aimed at promoting sport and physical activity across Europe. The focus of the week was FUN and INCLUSIVE physical activity.
The activities included ‘Move it Monday’, whereby children and teachers were encouraged to drop everything and move for ten minutes.
As well as this, we had ‘Try it Tuesday’. Local man Mike Murphy, kindly took each class group for a session to introduce children to some fundamental exercises associated with Tae Kwon Do.
Wednesday saw the pupils and teachers ‘walk a mile with a smile’ (older children walked a bit further- all the while keeping the smile!!)
Thursday saw children partaking in ‘Climbing the Heights’ skipping challenge. We chose some of Kerry’s highest peaks and children attempted to skip to the top, one skip per metre. For example, children skipped to the top of Cnoc an Óir (267skips) and Carrantuohill (1038 skips).
Friday saw the main event of pupils vs teachers in a tug of war, as well as a penalty shoot-out. Results were inconclusive (but it’s the taking part that counts!!)
