COUNTY U12 FINAL
Crotta under 12 team travelled to Ballyheigue last Tuesday evening 15th September to play Lixnaw in the under 12 final. Lixnaw were a stronger more physical team on the night and following a tremendous match came out on top on a score line 4-09 to 2-04.
Our lads started brightly and Raymond Nolan scored a goal after 25 seconds to give us the perfect start. Lixnaw goaled shortly after and both teams traded points to leave the half-time score Lixnaw 1-04 Crotta !-3. We now had the advantage of the breeze and when a superb Brandon Conway goal gave us the lead again in the second half things looked bright. A number of bizarre refeering decisions ( pity that the standard of refeering did not match the skill and endeavour of both sets of players) and better passages of play by Lixnaw helped Lixnaw to victory.
Crotta club members, officials, parents and supporters are very proud of the U12 panel who have been a joy to train. These lads have played over 20 matches this year and have never been spoken to by a referee let alone booked. All players gave what they had and to think in 12 months these players have gone from contesting last years U12 Division 3 final to this years Division 1 U12 final. This is a great achievement by all connected with this team.
Darragh Ryan our full back and captain was a big loss on the night and we hope he will recover from injury very soon.
Crotta will participate in the U12 championship which will take place in the next week or so. We have been drawn to meet Abbeydorney or Ballyheighue in the quarter-final.
Team & scorers: Adam O'Sullivan, Darragh Kennelly, David Behan, Bill Keane, Barry Mahony,Adrian Mahony, Brandon Conway Raymond Nolan, Thomas Quinlan, Colin Browne, Gearoid Galvin, Jordan Conway, Cathal Kennelly, Darragh Regan, Sean O'Donoghue. Sub Donnacha Brosnan for Gearoid Galvin.

KILFLYNN N.S FOOTBALL
A very young Kilflynn National School team took to the field last friday to play Glenderry of Ballyheigue, in the Cumann na mBunscoil. The fact that the 5th & 6th classes in Kilflynn are very small in numbers meant that some lads from 3rd class played. Glenderry started well and scored two points without reply. They then soon followed with a goal before a nice passage of play involving Raymond Nolan & Darragh O'Donoghue resulted in a fine score for Kilflynn. Half-time Kilflynn 0-01, Glenderry 1-03. Kilflynn gave as good as they got in the second half against a much older Glenderry team. They hit the bar 3 times and at the end of the half they had 2 goals (Darragh O'Donoghue & Dylan McElligott) and two Barry Mahony points to show for a whole hearted display. They lost Jack McKenna through injury early in the second half which was a big blow. Full-time Kilflynn 2-03 Glenderry 4-04.
Team: Dylan McElligott (1-00) Ryan Ward, Muireann McKenna, Dominic Nolan, Aaron Murnane, Jack McKenna, Barry Mahony (0-02) Raymond Nolan, Sean O'Donoghue Sarah Sheehan Darragh O'Donoghue(1-01). Subs Adam O'Sullivan for Dylan McElligott Michael ORourke for Aaron Murnane David Ryan for Ryan Ward

KERRY U-21 HURLERS WIN ALL-IRELAND HURLING TITLE
Kerry 2-18, Roscommon 1-15
Kerry added the All-Ireland under 21 'B' hurling title to their All-Ireland minor 'B' crown when late goals from Shane Nolan and substitute Thomas Moloney handed them victory over Roscommon at Cusack Park, Ennis on Saturday 12th September. Roscommon made a dream start when John Coyne connected with David Dolan's sideline cut to find the net after only two minutes. However, Kerry were dominant for the rest of the first half, and aided by an excellent display of point-taking from Dara O'Connell and James Flaherty, had built up a 0-11 to 1-3 lead by half-time.
The pendulum swung back in Roscommon's favour after the restart when they scored eight of the next nine points to take a 1-11 to 0-12 lead. Niall Kilroy scored four points in the third quarter.
But the Kingdom never gave up and with O'Connell to the fore and Nolan and Moloney scoring goals in the last 10 minutes, they eventually prevailed.
The Crotta hurling club was well represented on the victories team by, Darren Twomey (Conner back), Richard Nolan (centrefield), Matt Lynch (wing forward) and Shane Nolan came on as a sub and Scored 1-01 and Philip Twomey also came on as a sub. Jonathan Caffrey and Paul Costello were also members of the victorious panel.
Congratulations and well done lads. Alan Kelly, Captain of the Kerry team accepted the Trophy for the Kerry side. Well done also to Mentors John Myler, John Hennessy and Phil Stack

THE LATE SEAN GLEASURE
The local community was saddened at the recent death in Luton, England of Sean Gleasure, born in Tullig, Kilflynn 81 years ago and although domiciled in England since the early fifties, his love for and pride in his native place was very strong.
This was evident from his annual holiday when he Renewed acquaintance with old friends and colleagues, Unfortunately death intervened before he could make his planned 2009 trip.
Coming from a family with a Deep interest in Crotta hurling, Sean gave great commitment to the green and red jersey before following the emigrant trail like many more of his team mates.
His hurling talents were obvious as a youngster and Sean had the distinction of winning his first county championship medal as a seventeen year old in 1945. This no mean achievement considering this was the 3 in a row winning team. Unfortunately he missed out in the final in 1947 due to injury but by 1950 he had established himself among the elite of centre backs. This was due to his fine skill, supenb handling and long sticking allied to his physical presence.
Having played in the earlier rounds of the county championship campaign, Sean was unavailable for the 1951 final. While still I his prime, he chose a new life across the channel and his departure was a severe blow to Crotta hurling throughout the 50s.
Sean married local girl Eileen Harmon from Garrynagore - a passionate supporter of Crotta - and they were blessed with six children - Margaret, Jimmy, Sean R.I.P, Eileen, Peter and Anne. Incidentally Peter who often holidayed locally in his youth- continued the sporting tradition and gave great services to Millwall, Northampton Town and Gillingham football clubs as their goalkeeper. Sean was the recipient of the Crotta Hurling Club hall of fame award in 2004. The high esteem in which Sean was held was evident from the large crowd which attended is memorial mass in St. Michael Church, Lixnaw on Friday 24th July. There was a poignant moment during the mass when three of his four surviving former team mates Billy Stack, James and John McCarthy took up the offertory gifts.
We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Eileen and his Daughters Margaret, Eileen and Anne, to his sons Jimmy and Peter, to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, to his sisters Joan and Ian and his brother Peter and nieces and nephews, relatives and large circle of friends. May he rest in peace.

CAMOGIE NEWS
Well done to the U16’s (St. Annes) who travelled to Bruff last Saturday to participate in the U16 Limerick Championship. While the girls gave it their all and had most of the play in the first half we conceded three handy goals. Added to this we shot a lot of wides and found ourselves down at half time with a score of 1-5 to 3-2. A few switches at half-time saw the girls dominate the game throughout the second half and despite the fact they found it hard to score, again shooting a lot of wides they managed to turn the game around and win with a score of 3-7 to 4-2. Well done to all the girls and their trainers Pete Young and Tommy O Connor. Next weekend they meet the winners of Killeedy V Na Piarsaigh so we wish them the best of luck. Fixture will be forwarded by txt. Representing Kilflynn on the St Annes team was Megan Weir
