CROTTA COISTE NA NOG
Our U14 team played two games last week. On Tuesday evening 2nd September they played Ballyduff in the last round of the North Kerry Championship where a win would have seen them qualify for the U14 NK Championship Final. They played some great hurling in this match and after leading at half time by 4-05 to 2-01,they really upped their performance in the second half and ran out winners on a scoreline of Crotta 5-14 Ballyduff 2-06. Scorers: Darragh O'Donoghue 1-09 Sean Murnane 1-01 Jack Kevin McKenna 1-01 Eamonn Rohan 0-03 James Sheehan 1-00 Darragh Murnane 1-00. On Saturday evening 6th September in the sportsfield, Dromakee, Crotta played Abbeydorney in The North Kerry U14 Championship “A” Final. Following a great evenly contested match Crotta lost out on a score of Crotta 1-11 Abbeydorney 2-11. It was a tremendous advert for underage hurling and great credit to players from both sides for producing one of the best games at underage level for some time. John Hennessy (Ballyduff- whose father the late Michael Hennessy's is honoured by having the Trophy named 'The Michael Hennessy Memorial Shield) refereed the game well and this contributed to such an excellent contest. Crotta started slowly and Abbeydorney surged into a four point lead after ten minutes. Crotta had one score on the board which was a pointed 65 by Darragh O'Donoghue. Crotta then settled into the game and exerted a lot of pressure on the Abbeydorney defence. Points from play by Jack Kevin McKenna, Sean Murnane and Darragh O'Donoghue(who also pointed a number of frees) for Crotta left the score at half time Abbeydorney 1-06 Crotta 0-08. It was tit for tat in the early stages of the second half but Abbeydorney went four points up when they scored there second goal midway through the second half. Crotta upped their performance immediately and pegged back the lead again. An excellent goal by Aodhan Behan who pounced on a rebound from Abbeydorney's keeper who saved following a Darragh O'Donoghue effort on goal. Try as they might Crotta could not breach the O'Dorney goal and at the full time whistle the score was Crotta 1-11 Abbeydorney 2-11. Panel: Cillian Trant, Daniel O'Rourke, Ryan McElligott, David O'Connell, Aodhan McKenna, Michael Kennedy, Declan O'Donoghue, Pairic Shanahan, Eamonn Rohan(Capt), Sean Murnane (0-01), Darragh O'Donoghue (0-09) James Sheehan, Jack Kevin McKenna (0-01), Darragh Murnane, Tomas Dillon, Aodhan Behan (1-00), Denis Quille, Daniel Hunt, Keith O'Connor, Timmy Dillon and Tadhg McKenna. Great credit to this Panel of Players who have put in a tremendous effort this year. They have improved ten fold since they started training in January and every training session was almost a full attendance. Thanks to the Parents who also gave a great commitment to bringing the Lads to training and matches. Last years Feile Team was a very talented bunch of hurlers who won all competitions and this years Feile Team contested the Feile Final, County League Final (which they won) and the North Kerry Final so this augurs well for the Club. Thanks to Mentors Shane Herbert Tom O'Donoghue, Aiden Sheehan and Paul O'Donoghue who have worked tirelessly during the year to improve this Panel. We would especially like to Thank all who made the double header in Dromakee such an enjoyable occasion. Thanks to Sonny Egan, Tom Nolan, Paddy Weir and Mike Parker who organised everything on the Day. Thanks to Paud Twomey. Kieran Nolan and Tom Nolan for having the Pitch and Grounds in great condition. Thanks to Shane And Raymond Nolan who were umpires on the Day. Thanks also to anyone else who helped.
In the North Kerry U-14 Championship “B” Final also played in the sports field, Dromakee on Saturday evening, Ballyheigue had a 4-06 to 4-07 over a gallant Ardfert side, despite trailing by 12 points at half time. Congratulations to Ballyheigue.
