30th September
NEW MASS TIME
The change of time for vigil mass in Kilflynn is at 6.30 p.m. from Saturday 4th October.

PLOUGHING MATCH
The Kilflynn area was well represented at the National Ploughing Championships, This year the event took place in Farmley, Cuffesgrange in County Kilkenny from Sept 23rd to Sept 25th 2008.
The National Ploughing Championship is rural Ireland’s biggest outdoor festival, dwarfing musical events such as Slane and Oxegen.
A Record 208,000 people attended the three-day National Ploughing Championships. It is a great honour for the area to be represented at the National Finals. Local man Sonny Egan once again acquitted him self very well, in the special horse category of the All-Ireland ploughing competition. There was a nice colour photo in the Irish Independent on Friday of Sonny, he also featured in Irish daily Mail on Thursday. Well done Sonny.

ACTIVE RETIRED GROUP
A Social afternoon for the Abbeydorney/Kilflynn group will be held in the Community Hall, Abbeydorney on Wednesday 1st October commencing at 1.00 p.m. A meal will be served, followed by entertainment. Transport for anyone requiring it an be arranged. Contact Noreen at 7135831.

WEDDING BELLS
Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Breda Murphy, daughter of the late Bridie and Bernie Murphy, Rae, Kilflynn and Martin Nolan, Ferns, Wexford, who were married in St. Patrick’s Church ,Trim, Meath, on Wednesday 24th September. The Bestman was Pat Hanley, Murrintown. and The Bridesmaid was Madeleine O’Sullivan, Listowel. Family and friends travelled from near and far for the wedding and attended the wedding ceremony and afterwards the wedding reception, which was held in Trim Castle Hotel. A great day and night, was had by all in attendance. We wish Breda and Martin many happy years of married life together.

DANCING CLASSES
The Kilflynn Dancing Group will continue their dancing classes every Monday night at 9.00 p.m. in St. Columbas Centre, Kilflynn. Both young and old are welcome to attend, with first timers especially made welcome.

The winner received a leg of Lamb each. The weekly Darts Doubles Tournament will continue this Saturday night 4th October in Parker’s Pub. The winners will receive a leg of lamb. LIXNAW GOLF SOCIETY
President Seán Flaherty hosted his postponed outing at Ceann Sibéal on Saturday last. The weather on this occasion was ideal and it proved to be a very enjoyable day out. Hard working Joint Treasurer, Tom Lynch was a very popular winner, pipping Golfer of the year Denny McCarthy on the back nine.
The President presented his fine prize at a well attended presentation ceremony at the West End Bar on Saturday night. A special presentation was made to Fergus Fitzmaurice whose eight iron tee shot rolled into the hole at the fifth for the first hole in one in the Society's history. The Society is grateful to Paddy Quilter for his continued support.

Kilflynn National School football were narrowly defeated by Abbeydorney National. School last Friday in the opening game of the School Football League on a score of 3-8 to 4-2. Raymond Nolan had a brilliant game, scoring 4 goals. The Kilflynn N.S team was Dylan Mc Elligott, Jack Mc Kenna, Adrian Mahony, Darragh Ryan (Captain), Muireann Mc Kenna, Thomas Mc Elligott, Barry Mahony, Raymond Nolan, Dominic Nolan, Sarah Sheehan and Sean O' Donoghue. On Friday 3rd October at 1.00 p.m. Kilflynn will contest with Bouleenshere N.S. in Dromakee.

ABBEYDORNEY GOLF SOCIETY
The Society would like to wish our Captain Mundy Hayes and his wife Nora bon voyage as they set off this week for Stuggart, Germany where Mundy will be competing in the Mercedes Trophy World Finals.
Rumour has it that Former Crotta hurler Vincent Cashell, flew in from New Jersey, U.S.A to give Mundy a few golf tips before he departed for Germany.
The Pat Hayes sponsored Singles Matchplay has now reached the semi-final stage with John Joe Fealy taking on Ian Maunsell and Brendan Keane playing Paul Riordan for a place in the final. In the Golfer of the Year with 2 outings remaining Brendan Keane holds a commanding lead.

WEDDING BELLS:
The wedding took place in the St Mary‘s church, Kilflynn on Saturday, 20th September between Elaine Falvey, daughter of Helen Enright and Thomas Falvey, Asdee and Kenneth Whyte, son of Theresa and the late Brendan Whyte, Kilflynn Village. The Bridesmaids were Tina Diggins and Sarah Morris and the Bestman was Fergal Whyte (brother of the groom) and the Groomsman was Phil Morris. The beautiful ceremony was preformed by Fr. Jack Fitzgerald. The beautiful music and hymns were provided by Laura Lee Curtin.
The happy couple was joined by family and friends at their reception in Kerins O' Rahillys, Club House, Tralee. Congratulations and best wishes go to the young couple as they start out on the road of life together. And we wish them every health and happiness in the future.

KILFLYNN COURSING
Next Saturday and Sunday 27th and 28th of September sees Kilflynn Coursing club host their fifth annual meeting. The previous years has seen Kilflynn hit with adverse weather conditions so the club have been granted an earlier meeting by the powers that be. The Club have become renowned for the quality of meeting that they have run over the past few years and this can be seen in the quality of entry in the Stephen Fuller memorial cup. This is the main stake of the meeting and has attracted such entries as Lochbo Butch, the 2007 derby runner up. Eshwary Micko, 2008 champion stake runner up and Centeur back 2007 irish cup semi finalist. The field is also made up of a host of trial stake winners from the previous two seasons.
In all five stakes will be ran over the two days.
One course duffer, Two course duffer, Oaks trial stake, Reserve dog trial stake, Stephen Fuller cup.
This is the first coursing meeting of the season so it is hoped that an improvement in weather conditions and the high quality entries will bring a crowd over the two days.Coursing will commence on the lands of the Fuller family on Saturday at 11.30 and Sunday at 12 noon.

LADIES FOOTBALL
Finuge St Senan’s played Chorca Dhuibhne in round one of the north Kerry under 13 championship. the match took place on Friday in Finuge. unfortunately the match was not to be theirs and Chorca Dhuibhne emerged victorious. however, the u12 team overcame Castleisland Desmonds in the semi final of the north Kerry league. congratulations to the girls and we wish them the very best of luck in the final at the end of September.

MAURICE COLLINS MEMORIAL VINTAGE DAY
The Maurice Collins Memorial vintage day will be held on Sunday 21st September on the lands of Gerard McCarthy, Banna West, Ardfert. The events on the day will include Vintage machinery, engines and vehicles. The Banna Sea Rescue will have a display and include a demonstration of water safety throughout the day. There will be also be music and dancing on the day. A bouncing castle will also be there for children plus a television screen for All-Ireland Final. All funds raised will be donated to Irish Heart Foundation in memory of the late Maurice who passed away suddenly while walking on Banna Beach on Sunday 20th April 2008. He was employed by Ardfert Quarry Products as head mechanic for the past 29 years. Maurice had many hobbies and interests one which was vintage stationery engines, he was a member of many vintage clubs. He was also a very keen diver and was a fonder member of Banna Sea Rescue Unit.
Maurice was also a huge fan of traditional music and set dancing .

KERRY U-21 HURLERS
Carlow captured their first All-Ireland U21 B Hurling title at Nenagh when they recorded a 2-14 to 0-7 win over Kerry, on Saturday afternoon 13th September. Carlow led The Brendan Mahony’s trained Kerry team by 0-5 to 0-4 at the interval. It was nip and tuck the third quarter but the last 15 minutes was a different story as Carlow held their opponents to just a single point. The Leinster lads upped the ante thereafter and with Two goals to ensure an historic triumph. The Crotta Hurling club was represented on the Kerry team by Philip Twomey, (mid field) Matt Lynch (Wing forward), Shane Nolan (came on as a sub in goals) and Darren Twomey (Sub)
Twelve of the Kerry team are under age again next, let’s hope they can go one further.
Well done to the Kerry team and to their trainer Brendan Mahoney (Crotta) and his Selectors Ger Hannifin ,Tony Maunsell, Ian Brick and James Harrington.

LADIES FOOTBALL
The Finuge/ St. Senan’s under 15 girls football team took on Ballyduff on Sunday in the North Kerry under 15 B championships, despite a great effort they were beaten 5-10 to 4-5. Our congratulations to the girls on a fantastic game.

The County Minor Hurling Championship Preliminary game between The Crotta and Ballyduff minor hurlers on Friday evening 5th September in ballyduff was postponed due to bad weather conditions.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION FOR THE KERRY TEAM
The Annual Church Gate Collection in aid of the Kerry Team Training Fund will take place this week end: Saturday and Sunday 13th and 14th September.

THE SHANNOW FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE
The Shannow Family Resource Centre (FRC) is a newly established FRC situated in Abbeydorney village. Funded by the Family Support Agency, under the National Development Plan, the FRC has a catchment area that covers Abbeydorney, Kilflynn and Kilahan. The key aim of the centre is to meet the needs of the local communities and support the various types of family units within the community. Some examples of the types of supports available include:
Information advice and support to families, individuals and the community as a whole
Practical assistance to community groups such as information advise and photocopying facilities
Coordinating the provision of a variety of courses at a local level. Examples of the types of courses available at present include - parenting teenagers course, personal development, keep fit and yoga. KERRY WIN ALL-IRELAND U-16 B TITLE
The Kerry U-16 hurlers captured the All-Ireland U16 Hurling B Championship title on Saturday 30th Aug. in Westmeath, Kerry had victories over Wicklow 3-11 to 0-8 pts and Kerry beat Armagh 5-7 to 0-2 in the second match and Kerry beat Kildare in the semi final and in the final Kerry had a victory over Westmeath on the scoreline 3-7 to 2-9.The Crotta hurling club was represented by Sean Weir who had a excellent tournament at wing back,
Congratulates to the players and management of John White Ballyduff, Joe Walshe Kilmoyley,and Mike Burke Causeway.on their great win. Kerry were defeated in the final last year. And Kerry last won the All-Ireland U16 Hurling B title last 1n 1999 also capturing the title in 1986 and 1998.

KERRY U-14 HURLERS
Congratulations to the Kerry U-14 hurlers who reached the semi-finals of Div. 2 Tony Forrestal /Sonny Walsh Tournament in Waterford last week end.
Kerry had 2 victories against Wicklow and Westmeath and losing in the Semi Final by 3 points. The Crotta hurling club was well represented by Tom McElligott on the Kerry Team.

JUNIOR HURLERS
The Crotta Junior hurlers were defeated by Lixnaw in the Credit Union County Junior Hurling League Division 3A Final on Friday 29th August at Lixnaw on 3-12 to 0-09 final scoreline
The home side led by 2-07 to 0-03 at half time.

WEDDING BELLS
Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Alison, daughter of Patrick and Marta O'Sullivan, Oak Park Tralee and Eamon, son of Ned and Tessie Breen, Laccamore, Kilflynn who were married in the Immaculate Conception Church, Rathass, Tralee on Friday 29th August.
Fr. Francis Nolan officiated at the beautiful ceremony. Best man was John Breen and groomsman was Thomas Breen. Bridesmaids were Clare and Caroline O'Sullivan. A large crowd of family and friends attended the wedding ceremony and afterwards the wedding reception, which was held in Brook Lane Hotel, Kenmare.
A great day and night, was had by all in attendance.
We wish Eamon and Alison many happy years of married life together.

The Abbeydorney Golf Society held the Captain’s Prize (Mundy Hayes) in Beaufort Golf Club on Sat. last 30th Aug. We had a turnout of 47 players, our sincere thanks go to Tim Thompson and his staff for their hospitality and helpfulness on the day and the excellent condition of the course.
