Christmas and the New Year passed by Peacefully in the Locality with the very fine weather adding to the enjoyment of the festive season for everyone. There were very large congregations at Christmas Eve and again Christmas morning ceremonies at St. Mary’s Church, Kilflynn, clearly demonstrating that the faith is alive and well in the area. Christmas morning mass was a beautiful Celebration as the School children from Kilflynn National School gave an excellent performance in their annual re-enactment of the Nativity. They were a great credit to their families and their Teachers. The beautiful Crib decorated by the Willie Keane, and Linda Locke, who had the Church, decorated beautifully. The Local Church and Youth choirs performed excellently. A word of thanks to Fr Pat O’Donnell who worked hard to make his parishioners' Christmas a happy and holy one.

MARGARET CONWAY
The Local Community was saddened to hear of the death of Margaret Conway, (nee O’Connell) of Ballyrehan, during the Christmas period. Margaret who was Big Hearted and Jovial came from a family steeped in the G.A.A tradition, a family who gave so much to the Crotta club. Margaret was one of the few remaining people who experienced first hand the two golden periods of the Crotta club during the late 40s and early 50s,Margaret had the pleasure seeing her late husband Tommy, her brother John “The Doc”and her Brother in Law Tomasheen and excel in the Green and Red. History repeated itself for her in the 60s and 70s when her son John Joe and her nephews The Nolans, especially her idol Todd- contributed so much to the Crotta success story. The O’Connell women along with the Laide, Flaherty, Harmon and Kenny women epitomised the pride, passion and never say die spirit of the Crotta club throughout the 40s and 50s when hurling was the main source of entertainment and pride in the jersey was foremost. Sincere sympathy is extended to her Son John Joe, Daughter in Law Margaret, Granddaughters Carmel and Norma, to her relatives and large circle of Friends. May she rest in peace.
