THE LATE JOHN MCCARTHY
The Crotta Hurling club bade farewell to its president John McCarthy last weekend.
John was born in Garrynagore and grew up in what was then the heartland of Crotta hurling and went on to have a distinguished hurling career himself.
From a young age John gave unwavering service to the Crotta club and also to the county.
Throughout the 50's He was one of the main pillars of the Crotta club.
He contested 5 County Finals - 1950,51,52,57 & 1967 - winner the first two.
He had just retired when Crotta won the 1968 final.
An exception hurler with courage to match and noted for his long striking, John was equally at home in defence or attack.
He stared for the club throughout the 50's and early 60's even when domiciled outside the county.
John also distinguished himself as a full back for the county throughout the decade, among the highlights of his intercounty career was being on the first Kerry team to play in Croke Park in 1952 when they lost to West Meath in a new competition for weaker counties.
He also won a Munster Junior Championship in 1956 when along the way they defeated a Tipperary team lead by the great Jimmy Doyle.
That Kerry team subsequently lost the All-Ireland to Kilkenny. John was still fullback when Kerry contested another Munster Junior Final in 1959, he was there again in 1960 which was one of his final games in the Green and Gold.
A truly great servant of club & County.
To his wife and family - The Crotta Club wish to extend their deepest sympathy
May he rest in peace.

ABBEYDORNEY/KILFLYNN COMMUNITY GAMES
We would like to take this opportunity to re-introduce you to the annual Community Games that are taking place in your area.
For many of us the Community Games were an integral part of our youth. Competing and racing against neighbours, classmates and friends on warm Summer evenings in local fields is something many of us will recall.
However there is much more to the Community Games than just sports and competition. It is the sense of “community” that we in Abbeydorney/Kilflynn would like to re-kindle and nourish amongst the next generation of our future athletes, footballers, musicians and artists.
To the business leaders/owners, teachers, parents and well wishers throughout our community we would like to ask for your support in every way possible. Promotion of the Community Games amongst family and friends is equally as important as any sponsorship you may kindly give to your local games.
Over the coming weeks and months we hope to raise awareness of the games as they take place in your localities and introduce you to all the local children, your neighbours, who will be participating in a whole range of events. Please come and join us at these events and follow us on your local Facebook pages.
Finally we would be most grateful for all and any help you can give us; whether your time, encouragement of the athletes, players & participants, or a small donation to help with the purchasing of jerseys and equipment that is required for future activities.
Thanking you in unity,
Abbeydorney/Kilflynn Community Games

SYMPATHY
The Crotta Hurling club wishes to express its sympathy to the family of Patrick Hickey,
late of Keel Kilflynn who died recently in England.
Patrick was a member of the St.Particks (combination of Crotta/Abbeydorney) minor team
Who won the County Championship in 1954. Playing in the half forward line he made a major
contribution throughout that campaign.
In the previous year, he had been a member of the St Michaels ( Lixnaw and Crotta ) minor team
that lost to KIlmoyley in the semi final.
Patrick went on to play for Crotta, senior level at No:12 in 1955 and 1956. Unfortunately for the
