APRIL 2020
29th April 2020
WE hope you are all keeping safe and well in your homes during (Coronavirus) covid-19 and we send our best wishes to everybody in our community, especially to those cocooning at this time.
We are all looking forward to next Tuesday week May 5th hoping that there might be a slight easing of restrictions but slight is really all that we can hope for.
You are all doing a great job in abiding by the restrictions and your efforts are working in preventing the spread of this virus.
We are very thankful to those who are working so hard to keep us safe and well during these difficult times, especially the front line staff in our hospitals and care homes and all the people working in shops and supermarkets.
Keep your spirits up and we will get through this. At least the weather has been lovely so we can enjoy the sunshine in the comfort of our back gardens over the last few weeks, with some people are doing painting and decorating projects, while others are doong School work, baking, exercise classes using online resources.

PAST GAA MATCHES
The GAA, in conjunction with the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, have launched the GAA Digital Archive at Croke Park providing free access to past GAA matches to internet users around the world.
113 All-Ireland finals since 1961 are included in the archive and provincial finals from 1961 also feature. The new archive also includes All-Ireland club finals since 1989.
In all, over 500 football and hurling matches were retrieved from broadcasters and information such as date, result, venue, referee, scorers and teams and substitutions was added.
This might be useful to all GAA fans during this time of isolation!

KILFLYNN ENCHANTED FAIRY FESTIVAL
News Alert - The Queen of the Fairies made contact with the Chairperson of The Kilfynn Enchanted Fairy Festival by leaving a tiny little note at his doorstep, after many hours trying to figure out the tiny little words through a magnifying glass. The letter was typed so it’s visible to all, the original is attached.
Dear Beauitful People of Kilfynn,
It is with a heavy heart and days of meetings with the fairies and the wizard. Many tears shed but we decided that this years Fairy Festival will not be going ahead.
Good people of Kilfynn ye were chosen as a village to bring a magical, family togetherness, authentic and memory building experience to children and their families. As a village ye gathered like minded, kind hearted people to volunteer and the community spirt is spoken about all over the world. As a little village ye come together each year and welcome thousands of people to your festival and it is now known as the biggest fairy festival in Europe. Take a bow.
Take this time to rest and keep safe and use your creative brains to make June 2021 extra special because that’s we are going to do this year. Fairies don’t Social distance they use physical distancing they keep contact through IWands , similar to your phones but we use Wands and don’t have a bill.
Yes little girls and boys will be so disappointed, but remember feelings come and go. We are not leaving we will still visit gardens if invited, live in our little houses down the trail and in the children’s homes behind those magic doors.
Keep believing and Dreaming
Warmest, kindest and sparkling regards
Pearl, Queen of the fairies.

SYMPATHIES
It was with great regret that we have learnt of the recent passing of two Hurling stalwarts.
Mike Joe Quinlan is one of the elite group of 4 who have won Ten Kerry Senior hurling championships with Ballyduff . Mike Joe also won a football championship with Shannon Rangers in 1964. The late Mossie Whelan was born in Ballyrehan and spent his youth in Crotta.Mossie was a very prominent member of crotta minor teams in the late 50s and early60s. After moving to Ballyduff Mossie went on to win a senior championship medals in 1965 and in 1966.
On behalf of the Kilflynn and Crotta Communities we offer our sincere sympathies is extended to the family and friends of the late Mossie and Mike Joe. May they rest in peace.

COVID-19 KERRY COMMUNITY RESPONSE FORUM LEADS THE RESPONSE
INFORMATION LEAFLET BEING DISTRIBUTED TO KERRY HOUSEHOLDS
THOUSANDS OF VOLUNTEERS MOBILISE TO SUPPORT THE VULNERABLE
A new telephone helpline has been launched in Kerry on Monday 30th March to assist members of the public in accessing non-emergency and non-medical services and to provide support and advice to people during the current public health emergency.
The free, confidential phoneline service has been established by the new COVID-19 Kerry Community Response Forum which includes over a dozen agencies and organisations who have come together to mobilise and coordinate the community and voluntary response to the current crisis, particularly in responding to the needs of vulnerable households and individuals.
The FREEPHONE number 1800 807 009 is now up and running and will be available from 8am to 8pm seven days a week. A text line (text ‘SUPPORT’ followed by your NAME to 50555) is also available for the hearing impaired or those who require a call-back from the service while requests can also be e-mailed to covidsupport@kerrycoco.ie
The helpline, which is manned by trained volunteers, is focussed primarily on ensuring that vulnerable members of the community or those living alone can access deliveries of essential items like groceries, medicine and fuel. Where another agency or organisation can provide more appropriate information or advice, the caller will be connected with other organisations or services if required.
10,000 information leaflets including details of the new freephone number and other information are being distributed around the county over the coming days. This will be done through existing networks like the Kerry Public Participation Network, sporting organisations, local development companies and hundreds of community and voluntary groups across the county.
Included in the COVID-19 Kerry Community Response Forum are:
Health Service Executive
Kerry County Council
An Garda Síochána
Kerry Red Cross
Kerry Civil Defence
Kerry Volunteer Centre
North East and West Kerry Development
South Kerry Development Partnership
IRD Duhallow
Kerry GAA
Kerry Public Participation Network (representing 700 approx community groups in Kerry)
Kerry Age Friendly Network
Local Link Kerry
St Vincent de Paul Society
Kerry IFA
Citizens Information Service
Other community, voluntary and sports representatives
The Group came together to complement and reinforce the tremendous work already underway across the county as communities respond to the needs of the community and it aims to ensure that any gaps in existing provision can be addressed and coordinated centrally.
The group is asking members of the public to share the phone number with elderly or vulnerable neighbours.
