KILFLYNN CITY RUNNING AND WALKING GROUP

niamh oconnell
Niamh O’Connell

It is with such genuine sadness that we write this, a position we never wanted to be in.
Our dear friend Niamh O’Connell (née O’Brien), Clounsillagh, Lixnaw,  / Carrignavar, Cork, group member and co-founder of our Walking Group, passed away early on Sunday morning 20th October.
Firstly, we think of Maurice, her forever gentle rock, her precious boys Cian and Eoin, her mom Lily and dad Derry, her brother Alan, his family and the wider O’Connell and O’Brien families.
We have the tiniest sense of the massive loss your Niamh is.
Weren’t we the lucky group that this beautiful, elegant lady came up from her home in Clounsillagh one Sunday morning to join our group.
It was the start of a very special journey for us all.
Whilst words will never ever convey what Niamh means to us, if we were to attempt it, it might go something like this …
Niamh, you always showed up for the group, as a runner, as a walker, always contributing, always supporting us whether that was at the starting or finishing line, making our group events happen, or your thoughtful messages to us individually …
You were always there Niamh for the group, on the good days but equally on the hard days that this life sent your way.
Niamh you put everyone else first, always going the extra mile, of which there are countless instances we can recall but one brings a smile – even with the apple pie, there had to be cream!
The rest of us moaned about the silly things – the routes, the hills but you never once complained Niamh, you never said why is this my path.
You are and always will be our brightest shining member and friend, always preferring to be in the background but your kindness, immense sense of fun and bubbliness, no crap attitude, your strength and determination put you at the front whether you liked it or not.
In time, we will share the precious memories, stories and photos we have been so lucky to be part of over these last few years.
Your beautiful voice, kind ways and gorgeous smile we will hold forever so dear in our hearts and within our group.
Niamh, you to us at Kilflynn City Running and Walking Group, will always be #Unstoppable.
