A TRIBUTE TO SONNY EGAN

sony egan storytellingThe 7th Annual Listowel International Storytelling Festival opened with a sold-out tribute to the one and only Sonny Egan at the Kerry Writers’ Museum on Thursday night 18th September.
The festival began in the best way possible — with a moving tribute to Sonny Egan, one of Kerry’s great storytellers, musicians and tradition bearers.
The evening was filled with laughter, song and stories, celebrating Sonny’s life, his generosity of spirit, and the community he built around him.|
Frances Kennedy Entertainer  MC with her trademark wit and warmth, and  Lixnaw Comhaltas – Ceolann  filled the room with brilliant music, what a night!
Cara Trant, Executive Director of Kerry Writers’ Museum, presented Sonny Egan with a specially commissioned portrait by local artist Damian Daly.
There was an audible gasp as the artwork was unveiled — and for once, Sonny was lost for words!
Sonny was thrilled with the piece, which perfectly reflects his spirit as a singer, musician, and keeper of stories. Congratulations to Crotta legend Sonny, well deserved.

CROTTA O’NEILLS FAMILY FUN DAY

Crotta Academy teams (U6-U10) had their final training session for 2025 on Sunday morning 21st September at sports field Dromakee, Kilflynn which coincide with the club’s family fun day
It was lovely to see all the smiling children and their families enjoying the occasion with the sunshine even playing ball for once.
After lots of fun and games, all the various age groups received their medals and treats to mark all their hard work throughout the season.
The excitement levels were heartwarming when the chiming bells of the ice cream van could be heard entering the car park. Young and young at heart really enjoyed their treat under the clear blue skies.
Days like today really show how much the GAA club means to a community and the community means to the club.
On Behalf of Coiste na nog thank you to all our wonderful players and parents. A huge word of thanks to all our sponsors, volunteers and coaches, your time and commitment to the children is exculpatory and is very much appreciated.
A special mention to our children’s officer Marie Beirne who put this show together and along with others organized brilliantly to make Sunday a success.
Thanks one and all, Roll on 2026.
