CANCER TABLE QUIZ

The Kilflynn Cancer Support Group table quiz returns on Wednesday 27th December in Parker’s Pub and Herbert’s Bar, Kilflynn. Our designated charities, Recovery Haven, Kerry Hospice and Kerry Cancer Support, need your support more than ever as they continue to recover from loss of revenue caused by the pandemic.
Our community’s support will help these beneficiaries to continue their wonderful work. The quiz has always received unbelievable support from the people of Kilflynn and the surrounding parishes, with more than €80,000 raised to date, the vast majority of which was distributed to Kerry-based cancer charities. With such support, the quiz has become an integral part of Christmas celebrations in the village. Moreover, the event is not all about answering questions but also a fun filled night of music, raffles and auctions. Therefore, the organizers would be grateful to receive any donations. Maybe you could ask a business, you regularly deal with, for some item, such as a voucher, that we might raffle or sell on the night. Also, if you have any unwanted presents don’t put them in the attic; give them to us to raise much-needed funds for our charities. Even if you can’t attend on the night we would be grateful for your support in these ways. If interested please contact John Flaherty at (087)2352753 or Mike Parker at (087) 9794541. Any donations can be handed in to John, Mike or to Herbert’s Bar and Shop. Anyone who might like to lend a hand on the night itself please let us know. As always, the organisers thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you on the 27th of December, kicking-off at 8: 30. Let’s make this our best fundraiser yet!

ALL-IRELAND INTERMEDIATE SEMI-FINAL

Clanmaurice (Kerry) 1-12 Shamrocks (Galway) 2-5
DEFENDING Munster Intermediate champions, battle-hardened Clanmaurice had too much experience for a young Shamrocks side from Galway in Sunday’s AIB All-Ireland Intermediate Club semi-final at  The Ragg, Tipperary  and now they will face Meath champions Na Fianna in the All-Ireland final in Croke Park in two weeks’ time.
This tightly-knit Clanmaurice side deserved four-point win – so tightly knit that they have just 17 players but have beaten the champions of Cork, Tipperary and Galway along the way. Has a club side, male or female, reached a Croke Park final with only 17 players and two of them are goalkeepers! It’s an incredible sporting story but there is one last chapter Clanmaurice would like to write.
The Player of the Match Award went to the Clanmaurice full forward Jackie Hogan. Congratulations and well done to the Clanmaurice players and their mentors, especially the Crotta players Aoife Behan (wing forward), Jackie Hogan (full forward)  (1-7, 1f, 1’45), and Amy O’Sullivan also a member of the panel.

U-15 FOOTBALL FIXTURE

St Senans 2-9, Tarbert 4-6
Hard luck to the U15s who put up a spirited display but just fell short in The U15 North Kerry Div 1 Championship Final on Saturday Dec 2nd @ 12noon in Ballylongford. The game started with both teams trading points. Tarbert then scored 2 goals to lead at halftime 2-3 to 0-3.
Senans started the 2nd half strongly and nearly got a goal of their own with 2 goal chances coming off the post. Tarbert responded with a further 1-2 to take an 11 point lead. Never giving up, the boys started to take control of the game and scored 2-6 in the next 15minutes. This fantastic response brought the scores level. Tarbert responded with a goal to take back the lead with a 3-point advantage. They held on to see out the victory.
Congratulations to Tarbert on the victory. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day. The boys can hold their heads high as they never gave up and fought hard to close a large deficit and only for a little luck the result could have been different.
