MICK McCARTHY MEMORIAL STORYTELLING COMPETITION 2022

What a STUPENDOUS night of STORY presented for the 26th Mick McCarthy Storytelling Competition in Finuge on Sunday night 31st July . We had every kind of story! Mythic, legend, rhyming, traditional, topical, humorous and moving. We had young tellers to seasoned tellers with many counties represented. 3 fantastic tellers in the Youth Round and 12 magnificent tellers in the Senior Competition.
Our Winner for 2022 is Sonny Egan, Garrnagore, Lixnaw with his story Coping with Technology through the years!

In Joint 3rd Diarmuid Cronin from Millstreet, Co. Cork and Jane’s Fogarty from Moyvane Coco Fiend
Huge Congratulations and well done to our own Sonny Egan on winning the Sean McCarthy storytelling title for 2022. Hopefully the luck will extend to the All-Ireland Fleadh next weekend for Sonny too at this year’s Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Mullingar.

BEREAVEMENTS

The death occurred of Ellen Barton nee Burke of Knocknakilla, Kilflynn and formerly Faha, Killarney, peacefully at Áras Mhuire, Listowel on 28th July, we offer our sincere sympathies to her husband James, to her daughter, Martina and sister Phil, her grandchildren Sophie & Ewan, son-in-law John, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends. Funeral arrived at St. Michael’s Church, Lixnaw on Saturday morning for Requiem Mass, celebrated at 10.30 am. Interment afterwards in Kilfeighney Cemetery, Lixnaw.
Sincere sympathies to the family, relatives of the late Donal O’Connell, Gransha, Cloghercannon, Abbeydorney, peacefully at the Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee, on 17th July May they rest in peace.

CROTTA LOTTO RESULTS

The Crotta hurling club weekly lotto draw was held on Monday 1st August at Herbert’s Bar, Kilflynn.
The Four numbers drawn out of the drum by the independent observer: Graham Harris, Clounsillagh, Lixnaw were 20,22,25 and 31.
There was no winner of the 2,500 Jackpot. Congratulations to the following who won €35 in the lucky dip draw:
Jessica Cronin, Knocknacaska Kilflynn, Sonny Egan, Garryngore, Lixnaw, and Jessica Cronin, Hillview, Knocknacaska, Kilflynn.
The next draw will take place in Parker’s Pub, Kilflynn on Monday 8th August at 10.30p.m with a €2,600 Jackpot.

North Kerry Minor footballers continued their 100% run in the Keane’s SuperValu County Minor Football Championship. RD 3 at the Fossa G A A Grounds on Monday August 1 and by virtue of this latest victory they have qualified for the latter stages of the competition.
Well done to the North Kerry team and their management, especially to Crotta Gaa St. Senan’s player, Sean McElligott.

MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

Full time Score on Friday evening 29th July at Austin Stack’s Park, Tralee in the Keanes County Minor Hurling Championship Final, St. Brendan’s Ardfert 3-13 to Ballyduff 1-13. Absolutely cracking game of hurling. Well done to St. Brendan’s. Commiserations to Ballyduff.

SPLIT THE BUCKET

The draw for the July Kilflynn Community Together “Split the Bucket” will take place Saturday, 6th August in Herbert’s Bar, Kilflynn @ 10:00pm.
There is still time to get your entries in (as many as you like) before Saturday! It could be your lucky day! We have buckets at various businesses around Kilflynn: – Parkers Pub, Herbert’s Bar and Zam Zam Kebab.
The concept of the draw is simple, simply place your €2 into the envelope at the venue, write your name and phone on the envelope and you could possibly ‘split the bucket!’
Funds raised will be used for projects that will benefit and improve Kilflynn. Your support is greatly appreciated.
